Ruth - thanks for the recipe. I had it a long time ago but it got lost somewhere. I actually got as far as buying the raisins once, but never followed through. SInce I do like both raisins & gin, I think I'll give it a try.

Celia - so sorry to hear about your sister-in-law, she does deserve and need a break. My SIL is only 39, so I hope this is the end of any medical crises for some time to come. Today is 5 weeks in the hospital. He is the most positive person I know. My daughter is an amazing care-taker and wife. Now G-d needs to bless them with a child.

Karen, glad your loved ones are doing better!

Celia, I feel so sorry for your poor SIL. That is a lot to deal with.

Minus, both my aunt & mom were getting those little arthritis bumps on their fingers & 'the recipe' took care of them. It wouldn't work for something serious, but can't hurt to try for minor arthritis aches & pains. And the alcohol evaporates, so that shouldn't be a problem. Neither my mom or aunt drank, so felt like they were being quite risque when the sneaked in a liquor store to buy gin! (It was my aunt's doctor who recommended that she try this. Cheaper & less SEs than most medications.)

I went to Barre Sculpt & did the treadmill today. I found some rhubarb at the bottom of the freezer so am making rhubarb muffins at the moment.

Jealous of the shorts and sleeveless top!! We woke up to about 5 inches of snow. Pretty but snow none-the-less. Pound & Mat Pilates here.

Celia, your SIL has been through an ordeal and yes deserves a break!

Marta, nice pic. It's not quite warm enough here for short sleeves. Maybe 30 today, but sunny, so it's a treadmill day.

Yesterday, I unpacked two more boxes of mom stuff, took another load to Goodwill, and finished my paperwork management project. All the loose stuff that was piled on flat surfaces is either filed or ready to be shredded. Next is going through the old records to see what can be destroyed. Also started going through closets to see what can be donated. We have stuff in boxes that were packed 20+ years ago, judging by the newspapers that wrap some of the items. How many wineglasses do two people need?

Lilac, haven't seen you in a while. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Yes, missing my Lilac and hope you and your husband are doing well.

Badger, I have been thinking the same thing about all our wine glasses and bar ware. It's ridiculous for us to have 12 of each of these kinds of glasses.

This morning's run was brisk, 26F and the wind chill was 21F. But I got in my run and kept my heart rate where it needs to be.

30 mins treadmill yesterday plus some Scrub & Sculpt (aka housework) and an afternoon nap.

Robert Fulghum was right -- naps are good. Studies have shown they benefit the heart and the brain.

I think I'll make some cookies today, and eat a few warm from the oven with a glass of cold milk. :-)

super frustrated, I haven’t exercised at all since Friday. Woke up Friday night with sudden intensepain. Still working on trying to figure out what it is from... appointment with PT tomorrow. Hate the feeling I’m falling behind, and losing ground.

It's a beautiful day here. We walked the dogs & I'll go to Barre Sculpt.

I excited beyond excited. DD#2 is coming in 2 weeks for a 3 week visit. She will be here for her birthday and for Passover. She hasn't been here in 18 months and we haven't seen her in over 14 months!!! Unfortunately, my other kids won't be here.

Nice weather again today then cooling off. 60s today then 40s tomorrow. Won't complain

    Have a great day

Oh Karen, I'm jealous (in the right way). My older son turns 40 on Friday and his brother who's in the Navy got cleared to take leave and go there. But I can't, I haven't had my second vaccine yet. To put salt on that wound, my stinky ex lives near enough my older son that he will get to be there.

    Really bummed about that.

NotAsCalm, hope your PT app't can help you figure out that pain and alleviate it. No worries about "falling behind." It's hard to do much when you're in pain.

Karen, so happy you get to see your daughter and have her home for Passover.

Edj, not being able to celebrate your son's 40th b-day in-person is a huge bummer.

I get to see mom today. I brought her a slice of apple pie last week and she raved about it to her buddies. Now they all want some. DH was an excellent son-in-law and made two apple pies for her to share. Hope they don't get too used to this LOL.

just saw PT. Nerve impingement in my neck. Impacts my left arm, which was healing from the MX 7 weeks ago.

Last week I was feeling very positive that everything was moving in the right direction at the (almost) right speed.

I have too many priorities, and while I’m realistic that this comes first I’m disappointed that I can’t continue the exercise which was working on the weight loss and regaining strength.

NotAsCalm, you have been through a body trauma. Please don't push yourself too far too fast. It's kinder and healthier to allow yourself to heal. Tincture of time may be the best medicine. ((hugs))

Happy Birthday Ruth! Hope you are having a fabulous day!

NotAsCalm: Sorry about your nerve impingement. I know you're frustrated and hope it heals quickly. Heart

Martaj: You look beautiful on your bike!

Karen: Such exciting news about dd's upcoming visit! Hope your SIL continues to improve daily.

Badger: I want a piece of that apple pie! I'm sure your mom is delighted to share it with her friends.

edj: Sorry you can't be with your son on an important birthday. I hate Covid.

M0mmy: Housework is definitely busy work!

    LB: MIss you!

Walked yesterday. It was cloudy and 44 degrees. BUT today it's 63 degrees and sunny. About to go for my walk/run!

Got in a 2 1/4 mile run this am, it was 40 at 6AM (I massively overslept, oops) which is so much more pleasant to run in than 20F.

Tomorrow morning, we're moving most of our furniture out of our two bedrooms. Those are the only two rooms w/ wall to wall carpeting and per the terms of our carpet warranty, we have to have them professionally cleaned. So that happens tomorrow and I guess it's just as well that tomorrow is my no work out day b/c that will be a good strength workout right there!

edj- that stinks that you can't celebrate. in person for your son's 40th. younger DD turns 23 - the last birthday she as with us was #18 - her senior year in high school. My other 2 kids have birthdays in May near mine. i think the last time I was with older DD was also on her 18th birthday as we went to Chicago to look at an university and flew home on her b'day. I wanted to tell the flight attendants but I don't think she would let me. We usually celebrate her birthday when they are here for Passover which every once in a while ends just before her birthday. I guess one day, I'll have to accept that my children are grown!!! My son has been with us more on his birthday than the girls.

edj - good luck tomorrow with the furniture moving.

Gorgeous weather today - 60s - had a great walk when I got home. Short 10 minute walk at lunch.

Wonder - thanks for your good wishes for SIL. He is slowly improving - waiting to be accepted at a rehab facility before hospital discharge. DD is worn out. Ordered her dinner tonight - been doing it once/week. If she wanted would do more often as that is all we can do to help.

Not as Calm - I agree with Badger - you need to be gentle on yourself

Karen, so excited about your DD's visit!

NoAsCalm, it's not a race. You have the commitment to regain your strength so it will happen. Not as fast as you'd like, of course. I think almost all of us have been where you are now and know how frustrating it is.

Hauling around furniture is definitely exercise, edj!

My walking group took our first outdoor group walk of the season this morning, which felt wonderful! DH & I walked dogs this afternoon. We are going to dinner with DS & his GF at a fancy restaurant where everything is very spread out (and which should be pretty empty on a Wednesday night). It's the first time I've been there in over a year so I am pretty excited!

On Monday I did a Youtube mashup workout combining Zumba, dumbbell exercises and stretching together with a friend (livestreaming). We had a good sweat. It was so long though since I did these movements with weights (like a year?) that I had serious muscle soreness and I still hurt today, 3 days later. Have been doing easy Zumba since and some walking.

Should plan a bike ride for this afternoon as temps falling again tomorrow and rain forecast.

Heidi- have a nice bike ride - I need to fill my bike tires and ride - but never seems to happen. I have a cruiser which I loved when I bought it after treatment as I was scared I would fall off my mountain bike, but now I'm not so thrilled with the cruiser - maybe cuz I have't rode it in a couple or few year.

rain in the forecast for this afternoon and the mountains should get snow. Hope the weather won't mess with my walks.

    Ruth - great photo.

    Have a great Thursday.

Ruth, Happy belated Birthday! Nice pic with the WWW. Hope you enjoyed your night on the town.

The apple pies were a hit. The kitchen crew sliced them up and served as dessert at lunch. Mom called later to say thanks and tell us how much everyone enjoyed the treat. I told her that pie day came early but I don't think she got the reference (March 14 or 3/14 is "Pie Day" in honor of the math concept pi 3.14...).

It was nice enough for a walk outside yesterday.

Oh what a year...a year ago today I left on my last trip, spring break to Hawaii. I have been a real road warrior for 25+ years with work, still have a pre-packed bag in the closet. Here is a blast from the last trip, landing in Kona (big island) Hawaii after traveling nearly 15 hours from the east coast. It looks like I am waving to an unknown person, but actually just removing my reading glasses! Oh for a world without facemasks...

Happy Birthday Ruth and good to see the WWW outside! TT

Happy Birthday Ruth! Badger & Wonderland, been keeping my head down and tired of this lockdown that feels like forever. Next Monday, finally with death numbers reducing we are going to slowly start to come out - with kids back to school first. Wonderland you read as recovered and Badger so sweet of you to take those apple pies into your mom's home. Martaj - you look totally FAB! edj - have my first vaccine, most likely astrazeneca tomorrow after class. Sorry to read of missing your son's celebration. NotAsCalm, you have been through so much and rarely is recovery a smooth upward trajectory. Hang in there. Celia - re-enforces how much I hate cancer to read what your SIL has been through. Karen, good to read of recovery for SIL and BIL. Heidihill, good to read all you do. Trm Tab - ditto on a world without facemasks!

I'm on a course this weekend a CPD for Yoga For Cancer, streaming out of Peidmont California. Added my Move It Or Lose It class to live streaming on Thursdays so today and last week working with two people seated - one with Parkinson's and the other has Ataxia. Started a qigong eight week course on Monday learning about the 8 Trigrams - a symbol each week. This week was heaven. Keeping busy doing what I can to upskill for teaching and greater understanding of what I enjoy.

Pound this morning. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon & then Dance2fit. We may live dangerously and go to a basketball game tonight (we are quite avid fans but have been watching all the games on the computer this winter. If our high school boys win tonight, they will go to the state tournament. They limit the crowd size in the gym so we could sit away from others, masks are required, and we would really, really like to see them play in person......we'll see how daring we feel by 7pm......with us both having had Covid & our first vaccinations, I think that we SHOULD be okay.....)/

Hi all...I've been quiet, but for a good, if not good for me reason. Haven't even put this on Facebook but I know I can vent here. I drove out from NM to LA with my sister, and I was planning to spend a few weeks visiting my daughter, SIL and grandkids, all outdoors and socially distanced (though my DD has been fully vaccinated). I even got my first Pfizer shot! had one great day with them, and then: I fell, tripped on a step and broke my leg!

The fracture is relatively minor and won't need surgery..No cast either, it is in a leg brace. BUT, it is located on the bone very close to my knee replacement, and the concern is that if it doesn't heal just right, they might need to redo the artificial knee to make it fit right (fortunately, the titanium knee parts themselves are fine). So, that means no weight bearing at all for at least six or eight weeks. A wheelchair is in my future.

Right now I am in the hospital. Since I need lots of care and help, DD's house is out of the question, as it has lots of stairs. The vacation rental I was staying at near them has stairs too. They are going to transfer me today to a rehab facility for a week or so. Then, hubby is going to fly out (no point in him coming much sooner as no visitors are allowed at all either at the hospital or the rehab facility, thanks Covid.) Then he and I will get an accessible hotel or vacation rental for another week or two (during which I can get my second Pfizer shot at a drive up location!) and then eventually he will drive me home to NM (I have my car here; but yeah, I can't drive for at least two months either.) I guess this is a good time to be working from home: most of my house is wheel chair accessible except for the living room (sunken down a step)...but still, sleeping in my own bed will be nice!

So yeah exercise: well, I am building upper body strength learning to transfer to a wheel chair and I am wigging my toes a lot. That's about it.

Any help not feeling sorry for myself would be much appreciated!
