The Wednesday Walking Women took a brisk walk this morning and warmed up around a fire on a friend's deck. Zumba tonight.

DD#2 celebrated her birthday early today with 2 of her best friends - she sent me a picture of her and the birthday cookie which she baked!!! She reminded me early this morning by asking me to make her a b'day cookie - she wants peanut butter chocolate chip - I would have forgotten. So Sunday will be a baking day and putting everything in the freezer. Then I need to clean my ovens to get ready for Passover.
Snow prediction for this week-end hasn't chain yet. Wet heavy snow Friday night through Sunday. Told by weather forecaster to be prepared for trees to break and possible power outages. The last snow storm like this was March 2003. The interim superintendent sent out an email with the new snow day policy for the rest of the year. If its just one day we get a snow day - if it looks like multiple days, the first day is snow day then move to remote learning. He will notify schools the day before to have students take their chrome books home. So I'm guessing Friday such an email will go out. Need to get toiletries for DD - she will go on next Thursday (not tomorrow) afternoon after she gets here then after dinner we are going up to the mountains for the weekend. She hasn't been in 5 years and misses snow. It was 80 by her yesterday.
SIL is finally moving to a rehab facility. Pretty much this week has been waiting for a bed - transfer is on Friday morning. I wonder how long he will be there. The OT worked with him on stairs yesterday and it wore him out - DD told him that's what happens after 6 weeks in the hospital. I hope he is home by Passover, but I don't know if 2 weeks in rehab is enough time for his needs.
On the news they showed the long lines in the grocery store at lunch time today - I generally shop Friday as its my day off. I'm wondering if I should go after dinner. The grocery store is only 10 minute walk, so I can walk to pick up a few things if we get a lot of snow, but I can't do major shopping. I'd have to go again next Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm sure it will be fine Friday, but wonder if the shelves will be empty. I was planning to get my hair cut on Sunday but will get it cut on Friday. In the past 14 months, I've had it cut twice - end January 2020 and mid October 2021 - so it's been 5 months and it needs it. I have a good head of hair, but when it gets long it looks thin and not so nice. I'll probably cut 3-4 inches off.
Loooong day at work today - busy beyond busy - and I'm spent.
Best go start making dinner - fried rice with chick'n (vegetarian chicken).
Have a great night.

Healing vibes to all here (including relatives). Octogirl, I was just watching an official Zumba video Rita Wilson, Claudia Leitte, & Raja Kumari - Hello World (Official Video) - YouTube and there was a woman dancing while on a wheelchair. Hope you don't have to do this but it's possible. You can really get your heart rate up just moving your upper body. Hope the artificial knee will be ok.
Got my new battery today for my ebike. My first ride of the season a week or two ago was only for 10 km as my battery conked out. Fortunately it was mostly downhill going back but not always so I still got a good workout. Did another DOMS-inducing (delayed onset muscle soreness) strength workout Monday as well as my daily Zumba. Maybe it's time to increase my strength training to twice a week soon as I seem to be fully recovered today.
Kids (kinder to 12th grade) here have been in school since they reopened after our first wave. University is online though except for some classes like DD's anatomy class with cadavers. Exams were also in-person, which was scary. But gyms are still closed, except I saw that my gym is opening locker rooms all over the city for people to lock up their belongings and shower for outdoor classes in city parks (9 locations). I will definitely go next week. I will shower at home though. Skiing planned for the weekend.

9News still saying 10-20 inches but if we get rain Sunday instead of snow, will be less. Snow starting Friday night, heavy on Saturday and Sunday and snowing through Tuesday but not as heavy as the week-end.
The last snow most other school districts called a snow day, but my district went to remote learning. A 5th grade student made a u-tube video that went viral and he went on the local news so thankfully the district listened.
One year ago today, my husband was given a new leash on life - quintuple by pass surgery - we are calling it his second birthday - happy 1st birthday to my DH. As hard as it was to call the kids to tell them about the surgery it was so much better than the alternative. Some of you may remember that all 7 arteries were clogged 90-95% and he had a major clot on the "widow maker". He had only been feeling badly since Thursday and had stress test/cardiac catheter on Monday and immediately admitted to the hospital and started on Heparin. So thankful.
It's also one year since the pandemic was declared. Obviously I don't remember the news that day, but I was seeing things lock down in the hospital and stories about empty store shelves. So it was just the initial wording of pandemic that I don't remember from the 11th.
Busy day of meetings in the morning and interviews in the afternoons. A full 8 hour day on the computer zoom or google meets!!
Have a great day.

Wow Karen, you have a lot going on! Happy 1st Birthday to your DH!! We got no snow but 10 inches fell about 100 miles to the southeast of us. We lucked out!
One year ago yesterday, I started a week long sub gig for a friend who goes to Florida for spring training each year (in my favorite subject 7th grade American History). One year ago today we went to the opening round of the state high school basketball tournament (our team won), one year ago tomorrow our whole state shut down and when we went to the nursing home to celebrate our 95 year old friend's birthday, we had to leave our presents, cake, balloon etc. at the front door. The happy news is that we can now visit her in person (after going through screening, in masks, in her room). So it's party time tomorrow!!
I am going to play a game with a friend who's in Florida via Zoom this morning, do some house cleaning & think I will do a triple headed tonight: Barre Sculpt, Dance2fit, and Yoga.

We got 0.96 inches of rain last night in about 2 hours' time. Wow!
One year ago, I was scrambling to get a new direct report her laptop because we were moving to fully remote work.

Went to yogalates...yoga pilates fusion at lunch - wore an ankle sleeve due to twisting it on Tuesday. It appears I am okay.
This is our fourth day of 70+ temps...went to school today in mary janes with no socks! First time of the season. While I expect some cooler days ahead, after 4 of 70 the ground is warm enough that we shouldn't have any more snow stick and there are daffodils all over town. TT

The 5pm news said tonight 12-24" so the prediction is a little bit higher than this morning. We'll see what they say at 10pm and then again in the morning.

Looks like this morning foothills prediction is still on track for 2-4 feet. Fingers crossed! I always worry so much in fire season!
Here it was almost 60 degrees out yesterday! And this morning was still 45 when I got up! Snow is melting fast -- hope the roads don't swallow my car on my way too and from work. Back to more seasonal (sugaring) weather starting tonight.
Yesterday I was able to work from home in the afternoon. At 4:30 I took a very brisk walk up the hill (17% grade) and back just in time for my 5 pm strength training, then at 6 had rowing. I skipped the rowing warm-up as I was still panting and HR high from the personal training. Tried to row easy but still got 5500 meters in. So almost 2 1/2 hours of working out AND I was able to get out of bed this morning, feed the hungry beasts and make coffee without too much groaning But today my only work-out will be grocery shopping
I hope everyone stays safe!

Listening to the forecast for the storm - heavy snow Saturday and Sunday 10-20" in the metro area and more for the foothills - last night heard 12-24 and now 10-20. Only profession can be so inconsistent. Time will tell what we actually get. We usually take a long walk (1hour plus) on Saturday morning but it might be difficult tomorrow - our exercise might just be lots of snow shoveling. Last snow when I shoveled I pulled my back which took a week to heal, so need to be careful this week-end. Actually thinking if someone comes by and offers to shovel to pay them and be done with it. Hoping for a snow day on Monday - I work remotely on Mondays, but would like the day to do stuff in the house.
Need to get a hair cut today. I go to Great Clips but don't remember if I need to make an appointment. They don't open till 9 so need to wait to then. Haven't had it cut since October.
Not looking forward to the time change. Time to pick either DST or ST and stay with it all year. The time change, both fall ad spring messes with my body for 1-2 weeks and it gets harder the older I get.
Stay safe and stay warm. Happy Friday.

I hate DST with the white hot passion of 10,000 suns. Absolutely loathe it.
Today was a struggle bus, I ran but my heart rate wanted to spike so I only did a mile. Then even my normal weightlifting for upper body was abnormally tough.
The rain gets here shortly and then we'll need an ark to do much. My plan is weights tomorrow, rowing/weights Sunday before church, then off to get my second vaccine. Typically with vaccines, my arm gets pretty sore so I figured I won't want to do an upper body workout on Monday. And that's assuming I don't feel like shit after this vaccine.

Karen, my DH says they should split the difference; move the clocks ahead an half hour & stay with that forever.
Good luck with all the snow, girls. Hydrate before shoveling, take frequent breaks etc. etc.
My second vaccine is next Thursday. I plan to exercise quite a bit later that day to minimize the arm soreness but lie low of Friday (I was really tired the next day after shot #1). Speaking of Friday, today I am doing the Yogi Breathing & Nidra and, as it is pretty nice, I will walk outside. We will be celebrating our friends 96 birthday with her later this afternoon!

Saw mom on Weds. Brought her some purple grapes, her Willow Tree angel collection (SO glad I didn't donate those yet - phew!) and got the last of the paperwork signed and submitted for the VA benefit that will help pay for assisted living. That is a relief. Government paperwork is a PITA. And I say that as someone who is retired from a government job. Came home and walked a bit, then napped.
Colder yesterday so did 30 mins treadmill. Spent most of today being domestic: made applesauce and lemon crinkle cookies. Visit with MIL tomorrow. Rain maybe snow Sun into Mon.
One year ago, the state workforce was told to pack up and work from home. I had been part of a remote work pilot so it wasn't a stretch for me. Some people really struggled but I was glad not to spend the $ commuting. They're still not back in the office. I'm so happy to be retired.
Ruth, I am glad you got to celebrate with your 96-YO friend in person.

Hello friends, wanted to share this:
"The data are clear that the effects of exercise are as large as a prescribed medical intervention for eight designated symptoms (fatigue, anxiety, depression, QoL, typical function, sleep, bone health & lymphedema) in cancer treatment. At some point, not prescribing exercise for patients with cancer should be considered malpractice."
https://ascopost.com/issues/march-10-2021/the-emer...
So, keep on exercising & let's keep spreading the word - it's one huge evidence based intervention! Let's consider all of us to have been given a PRESCRIPTION by our oncologists!

Moth, thank you so much for sharing this article. It's full things I 'KNOW' from experience, but it's wonderful to have the science to back it up!

Had a great week - taught 2 spinning classes (yay!) and averaged about 2 hours/day of walking the dog - more than usual, as the paid dogwalker had an emergency appendectomy last weekend! A little challenging to fit it in with my work schedule, but it was such warm and sunny week that it was great to have an excuse to get outside more. Probably a little less walking this coming week, but I do still try to get out for at least an hour each day.
Increasing my physical activity over the last 2 weeks has been great. I always know that I'll feel better if I exercise, but somehow it's still really hard to motivate myself. After my first spinning class a couple of weeks ago I left the gym singing out loud because I felt so good - and I can't sing!

Nothing elevates your mood better than exercise! I sometimes get tears in my eyes when I am doing some of my favorite classes because it makes me so happy, and walking dogs is fabulous because their super-awareness of the world around them (the sights, the smells, the sounds etc) can awaken our senses as well. (Yes, we walked the grandpuppies today. 😃)

I got in a run this morning before the endless heavy rain starts. And while yesterday was total struggle bus, today was really good. So pleased I was able to get in that run!

I went to PiYo & Zumba and off for a walk since it's 60 degrees, sunny, & calm (sorry for bragging to all stuck in crummy weather).

I've been doing a lot of wheelchair upper body stuff while listening to spring training baseball and getting a bit stronger every day...haven't tried dancing yet though...It isn't very warm here in LA where I am still for the next few weeks...but nothing complain about compared to Denver: they are saying they could get 2 feet of snow! Stay safe and warm, Karen.
My big event today will be washing my hair with help from hubby. Not going to a salon until I get my second vaccine.

Hahaha, Ruth! That’s great.
MinusTwo and PeregrineLady were great motivation for getting me back to walking in November. I was slow to build up my steps! I enjoyed browsing through here, too, since MinusTwo told me about it. Now that I consistently have 10,000+ steps/day I will start posting here, too.
Today I did a 60-minute ballet class for adults and my total steps for the day was 12,268 steps.

Yes, welcome!
I too hate DST. Hate it so much. The only good thing about tomorrow, OK two good things: my younger son's birthday and my second vaccine.

Welcome Shar2020! Ruth great photo and meme Ruth. Edj3, good for you on running and feeling good! TwoForOne, you go girl with that spring in your step! Octo, good to read you - sending healing vibes plus everyone here has crap hair as salons have been closed for months!
I was on course all day and evening for woowoo yoga stuff, chanting, mudras, breath work, etc.. Tomorrow here it's Mother's Day and our clocks spring ahead next Saturday night.

Shar - good for you. Unfortunately I've fallen off the wagon I've gone from 6 miles every day to 4 miles only 2 or 3x a week. I know, I know. But I was ignoring too many paperwork things that have to be done. Once my updating my will is completed, I'll get back to it.

While getting up tomorrow morning will be harsh, I am thrilled for DST! Here up north (and not at western edge of time zone) it just gets dark too early during standard time. And in the depth of winter we are going to/from work/school in the dark anyways, I would rather have light in afternoon longer, and have a few more weeks of being able to get outside safely after work. So I vote for year round DST!
Windy here today. Am going to skip the group strength-training session and get on the treadmill for a 5k, perhaps do some rowing as well. I am also toying with the idea of doing the squat challenge! It seems impossible to me, but maybe I will try it over 2 months instead of one?
Yesterday I rowed and did a wee bit of housework. I also washed my car! It is getting colder again -- single digits next couple of nights, so road should be pretty well frozen at least in the morning. So tomorrow I can wear something nice to work and not get mud on it The joys of mud season! We still have quite bit of snow to melt and because of the freeze-thaws the top is all ice, so I need to be careful outdoors still.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful Sunday!

Probably 6-8" but still snowing today - saying 4-6" more today - so not the12-24" predicted. Need to get out and shovel the driveway - will leave most to DH as my back is still bothering me. No plans for any car travel. I work remotely on Mondays so if no snow day, I don't have to drive anywhere.

Welcome, Shar! I started my exercise journey with simple walking. Step goals can be very motivating. I agree about the emotional benefits of exercise.
A clip from a fave movie: Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands. They just don't.
Window visit with mom yesterday then in-person visit with MIL. Looking forward to when I am vaccinated against COVID and can hug these old ladies.
