Karen, sending you all the love.
Mommy, good job following the restrictions. I did not after major abdominal surgeries and ended up with an incisional hernia. So that was my 7th major abdominal surgery. Don't be me.
Ran 10k today, first time in ages. My foot still hurts but I don't care. All tests came back negative so there's apparently no reason for the numbness and pins/needles and pain in my right foot. So that foot can just suck it up and behave.

Holy carp! Nice job on running 10K edj3!
I am currently sitting on my couch. I've walked the dog and, made coffee, had my smoothie, fed my kid, gotten him started with his pandemic homeschooling routine, taken my meds, petted the dog, and cleaned the kitchen -- and now I'm procrastinating because I don't WANT to do my PT exercises.
I know I need to, but I don't WANT to. Why don't I want to? What the heck is this mental block about? UGH. I have got to find some motivation.
I'm gonna put on a podcast and go do them, and shower, and try to look and act like a normal and likable human for the rest of the day. I def feel like a fraud at the moment.
I hope you all have a lovely and motivated day!

Saltmarsh, do your exercises and report back!!!
Karen, I remember the swamped feeling of all of the end of the year school stuff. It's wonderful to have a job with a beginning and an end each year.....but SO much work!
Good for you, edj! If all the tests have come back fine, I too would just carry on. (Although in my case, that would not involve running a 10k )

Karen, I haven't posted much of late, but I have been sending prayers your way (and to your DD) daily+
LB, so good to hear from you, prayers also to you and your DH.
I have been in grading hell...but graduation is this weekend, yeah! I only have one hot week before we start summer school, but by mid-July I will be done being department head and will take a month's leave before the start of the next school year. Can you tell I am counting down the days/weeks...
It is my mother's 86 birthday tomorrow...we have made it through this pandemic year, but it has taken a horrible toll.
On fun new exercise adventures - as of April I have added a TaiChi/Qigong practice...and as of May have added an Aerial Yoga practice to my weekly run of classes. TaiChi is fine/good, but with Aerial I am determined to try for 4-6 classes (I can only fit it one a week), but I feel like I need training wheels and there aren't any and in many of the poses I am reluctant (afraid) to let go of the hammock for fear of falling on my face! I'll report back if that gets any better.
It is fully summer here in SE Virginia...most days in the 80's with some peeks into the 90's, but few days still in the 70's...already jealous of the WWW and their lite jackets -- always a fun group, thanks for the mid-week photo.
Happy weekend, TT

Love the exercise list. I am going to try to sneak in a run today which includes checking a tree for oyster mushrooms. I will take a plastic bag to put them in. Perhaps an omelet later? I need to get eggs today and I have the makings of a wonderful salad. Or asparagus. Or both.
I have my own exercise tips:
- I use a late afternoon or evening walk to wind down from the day. Right now, the birds are singing their hearts out. A few weeks ago, the air was so scented with flowering trees. Always something wonderful to see which takes me out of myself. Conundrums are solved, and the world is right again.
- I do crunches weekday mornings; weights weekday evenings just before dinner. I tried an every-other-day schedule once, but that didn't work for me. I need a daily routine.
- Weekends are for cycling and skiing, unless I am slammed with work as I was last weekend.
- I use cycling events to get my fitness levels up, but not the past 2 seasons, though I did make sure that I got out and cycled.
- I try to re-engineer exercise back into my life. If I can sensibly walk between shops when doing errands, that is what I do. I walked from the nonprofit office to the drugstore and back yesterday, about .4 mile each way. Most people take their car. Same for lunches picked up at the supermarket. There is one ghastly parking lot which I try to avoid. I will often park at the one half a mile away and walk to the bank, Staples, and/or Trader Joe's, leaving my car at the place that is much more peaceful.
- I plan active holidays. Which reminds me that I need to get a new air pad to sleep on for vineyard camping next weekend. I will either be restocking wine at the tasting room or helping with bottling. Plus hiking and cycling.
- I will meet friends for a hike or to cycle. Or, I will include a ride as part of my lunch out.
- Not sure what I will be doing this year, but in past years, I have taken the bus into Seattle for my annual oncology appointment, walked the 3/4 mile up a series of hills to my health center, and then walked the 1.5 miles back down the hill to the wine bar with perhaps a spot of shopping in between. Unfortunately, the middle part was where CHOP was located, so it's now a bit dicey. But things could be better by September.
- Note: you get more exercise taking the bus into the city plus it's cheaper.
I think that Bruno is thriving and happy. One culinary tip. I have a large clump of chives in my pea patch which are coming into flower. This year, I decided to make chive vinegar which I have done. So simple. I bought white balsamic vinegar in a bottle that has one of those pour/sprinkle stoppers. The way I did this was to remove the cap and pour thingy. Then I poured off half the vinegar into a measuring cup with a pour spout. I put the chive buds into the bottle (along with some lovage, a parsley/celery sort of herb which is delicious) and gave everything a good shake to distribute the herbs. Then, I refilled the bottle and put the thingy and cap back on.
I made one bottle for myself a couple of weeks ago and just did a couple of bottles for friends. Mine has the most divine scent, with amazing salads to come this summer. I think that one month and it will be just perfect.
More later as still digging out from work. - Claire

All great tips! Mine would be to make a commitment to get a certain amount of aerobic exercise, weights/toning & stretching each week and stick to it. Do a variety of exercises for enjoyment and to get different parts of your body worked out. Also, if you try something new, give it 6 weeks before you decide whether you like it or not.
The younger brother of DS's girlfriend is graduating from high school on Sunday. Her family lives about 1 1/2 hours away, so they headed down today to help get ready, visit relatives etc. We are babysitting their combined 3 dogs and 3 cats. Yikes!! DS has a fenced in backyard, so that's where we'll be hanging. We went on a Bruno walk this morning and with all the dogs before DS & GF took off. I think we will have to visit the Dog Park for the rest of the weekend as 4 large dogs and 2 people walking probably won't work so well. I suppose we could do 2 and then do the other two.....doubling our exercise! Wish us luck!

Ginger: How frustrating and painful it must be to walk and get stabbing pains. Hope you get answers and relief soon.
LB: I would LOVE to be your student! I've missed your wisdom and clarity. That itty bitty shitty committee needs to be dissolved. Sorry to hear about your dh's genetic heart condition. I'm sure you've heard many of these stories but I will add one more. My neighbor down the street had a heart transplant about 25 years ago and he has been fine ever since.
Hi jules! Hi Stacy! Glad you're here.
edj: Please send us your rain! Wishing you had gills is hilarious! Love your dry humor.
badger: Your garden/flower area sound so pretty. Your hard work has definitely paid off. Hope those two consecutive weeks of negatives come quickly so you can see your mom under better conditions.
Jinx: I also was scared when I changed treatment plans. Good luck on Tamoxifen!
Ruth: Bruno is one happy dog!
M0mmy: Thinking of you and hope you heal completely.
saltmarsh: Hang in there. May 31 is only 10 days away.
Karen:
TrmTab: You deserve to have a daily countdown! Grading hell sounds just awful.
Claire: Thanks for your exercise tips. Your vinegar sounds divine.
Hi All! Dh and I volunteered to be the new Red Cross Blood Drive co-coordinators for our church. This Wednesday was the first one for us. Our church opened back up for service on Easter Sunday but we have not back yet. It was good to be back in the building for the drive. Collected 26 pints of blood. Only 2 donors turned paler than pale and only one of those vomited. And I thought I was just signing up to give out cookies and juice.
Walked/ran today.

Good for you & DH, Wonderland! You are a wonderful asset to your community, that is for sure!
PiYo at 8:00am, now it's back to the dogs!

Heat & Humidity are here. Walked early this morning.

Exercise for the day since it's going to be hot and I can’t do any major lifting is planting flowers in my flowerbed.

Sooooooooooooooooo humid on my run this morning. This is not our typical May weather

had surgery Monday. No exercise at all until this morning. Did a super slow ride on the exercise bike this morning. Feeling proud.

I just puttered around doing stuff, too hot and can’t do much anyway until I have the post-surgery follow-up this week.

Good for you, NotAsCalm! I hope you are staying cool, and best wishes for your continued recovery!
Mommy: Hot here as well, and I have been trying to get housework done but.... ugh.
edj: weird weather everywhere I think!
I did manage to do a strength workout this morning, first a bunch of HIIT stuff then weights and TRX and resistance band stuff. My trainer is on vacation, and this 10 days has really shown me why I pay her -- I don't work myself nearly as hard as she works me! And I even have the workout plan she sent.
Have a great end of weekend everyone!

Y'all.
This morning was so beautiful out! After a hot, humid, sticky last couple of days, this morning dawned bright and cool and dry, and when we started our walk at 5:55, I was so happy to be out with my dog. One hour later, I had had to drag her away from a nest of baby bunnies, cover them back up, and drag her home, then had taken her outside water bowl in to scrub it and come back out to find her GONE. Somehow although I thought I secured her leash to her outside line like I do everyday so she can sniff more while I come in and make coffee, I failed, and she and her bright orange leash were nowhere to be seen. She's between 10-12 years of age, a beagle, and normally quite slow. Until she's not. This has happened once before in our two years together, and it was incredibly stressful. Thankfully, I live in an intentional community with very little traffic at that time of day, and plenty of people who care about us, so I immediately emailed community while looking for her and asked folks to please grab her and call me if they saw her. Retraced our steps hoping she had not decided to eat the baby bunnies -- they were safe, so where the heck was she? THAT's when I got a call from my ex's new fiancé who lives a couple buildings over, saying, "I have her, she was trying to come in our back door!" Oh, great. So, I head back across the community, and just when I'm in sight of her, I trip and fall because my headphones (wired) have managed to come out of my pocket and wrap themselves around my legs and make a knot. So I fall directly forward onto my RECENTLY OPERATED ON CHEST. Thankfully, I don't seem to have broken a wrist, and my "noob" (new-boob) seems okay? I hope to God the TE is not quietly leaking... Meanwhile, the fiance is laughing and my dog is totally fine on the end of her leash, happily sniffing around not paying any attention to either of us.
So that's our walk for today. :head desk:
I hope your walks are less-stressful/more-pleasant!

Salt, that's horribly funny/not funny!
Last night was terrible for sleep mostly because of one of my Shittens. She loves to jump up onto the headboard and run around only she's not as little as she was and she ends up scrambling around and nearly or actually falling. The worst is when she falls onto my left breast with all the scar tissue, followed by my stomach, followed by onto Wally (14 y/o male cat who HATES her). Ugh.
Today wasn't supposed to be a run today but tomorrow's forecast calls for thunderstorms, so I ran today. It was miserably humid outside and of course my legs were tired as I ran 20 miles last week (the most in a while). I'm still grateful I can run so I'm not actually complaining but boy I was a sweaty mess. And of course now that I moved my run, it's guaranteed to be dry tomorrow morning!

saltmarsh, geez what a morning! Hope you are OK and the rest of your week goes better. My DH and I were sitting on the front porch steps a few nights ago and a very happy little dog came running up to us. We're petting her and checking her collar for a tag when we see a human down the block yelling, "Hang onto her!" Turns out she was another escape artist.
Visited MIL yesterday and brought potato salad and strawberry-rhubarb cake. It's rhubarb season and already have five 3-cup containers in the freezer. Local berries aren't quite ready for picking and hoping the recent frost didn't hurt the crop. We sure do like fresh local strawberries but will settle for Cali berries in a pinch. We have more rhubarb in the fridge and DH is planning on strawberry-rhubarb pie YUM.
It's been raining so the humidity isn't too bad but I still prefer a damp early-morning walk to the treadmill.
NotAsCalm and M0mmy, best wishes for recovery from surgery!

Saltmarsh, your morning sounds like an episode from a Sitcom! I hope the rest of your day is VERY uneventful!
NotAsCalm & MOmmy, wishing you speedy recoveries.
Badger, I love anything rhubarb. Yum!!!
Yesterday we double leashed the four dogs and went for a short walk around a park (which felt long!!) and took a long drive with them before letting them play/play/play in their fenced in yard. At 2:30 a friend of DS's came over to his house with her dog & babysat all the puppies while we went down to the graduation reception of the girlfriend's brother (that we were invited means it must be serious!). We got back home about 8:00pm and I was to tired to do anything else. Pound, dog walking, and Zumba today.

well, the plantar faciitis in my foot is still hindering my broken leg recovery after getting out of the wheelchair, but I AM seeing progress! I can pretty much walk even without a cane, just have to be careful to wear the right supportive shoes and not to overdo it. M0mmy, you are a good role model. Actually, you all are!
My PT gave me stretches both the help my foot, and for my back which has also been bothering me as I get more active. They do help.
My big breakthrough yesterday was that (after practice in PT) I realized that I can easily navigate the fairly big step down to my backyard, which meant: with hubby spotting me, I learned getting into my hot tub is actually pretty easy! WooHoo! Now it will be my reward for doing the PT exercises and stretches. It felt great.
Take care, all.

So glad you have graduated to the hot tub, Octo!
Bruno and I took a nice walk when we got up and now I'm sitting at the hairdresser getting my hair cut and colored back to it's 'natural' color. Dh & I aee meeting some good friends for lunch in a little town half way between where they and we live. We haven't seen them in a tear so it will be good to catch up. I plan to be back in time for Yoga this evening.

Got the all clear today to resume any normal activity at my follow-up.

Yea!

M0mmyof2, that is awesome!
Um, today was a blur here that started with my husband waking up unexpectedly in pain at 3am and being sick for two hours before he let me take him to the ER. It was also the same day several important things were going to be happening, most of which he was lead on. So, I know I walked my dog at some point in the middle of all the mayhem, but I have no idea for how long. I'll have to walk her again tonight, as DH is usually the nighttime walker, and he will be okay, but was sent home on a liquid diet and told not not get out of bed for at least 24 hours.

Goodness, I hope DH is doing okay, Saltmarsh!

Yay Mommy!
Yikes, Salt!
Had my first personal training session today with Jerry (half of the WeBuild4Life). This is going to help me a lot, not the least of which is mentally b/c he's already said he doesn't want me to work out 6 days a week (what I have done for years). Four days max. That will be a challenge for sure.

i struggle, but i am trying. did "muscles in motion" (a rehab exercise program) a few times already, need to go today ~ was supposed to go yesterday! but i was with a patient late and then DIL and #8 grandchild were coming over for diner (my son out of town ~ military) and it was their anniversary so it wasn't something i could cancel.
Spread 100,000 tons of mulch Sunday (a slight embellishment) muscles tender because of that ~ i feel it was kind of a wash for the upper body workout i missed yesterday.
today's weather is trying to keep me inside and skip my morning get-a-way from desk walk. but i am going to hit submit and do it!0 -
edj3, yup, this is going to be a positive change - you can do it! Saltmarsh you have had quite a week so far - take good care. Stacy, glad you got out to walk.
I'm a bit flat as I just attended online a funeral for one of my Yoga For Cancer members who died on May 8th. John was a super good guy - excellent at yoga and grateful to have known him. Off to get dinner going - chicken cobbler tonight.

I am so sorry about your friend, Lilac.
It was cold and windy today, so the Wednesday Women walked in a tree claim....and then picked woodticks off ourselves.....
Zumba tonight.
