Wonder - my oncologist is wonderful. The first time we saw him, he spent two hours. with us. He is about 8 years younger than me so hoping he plans on working for many more years. He is really top notch.

I took a "cognitive" assessment on line with United Health Care and a few scores could have been better but I think these are areas I've always struggled with. I knew what all the "tests" were looking for. Memory and processing speed/response time was not as good as it could be.

Lori - I'm not really burned out from work. My anxiety just sometimes gets in the way as does my perfectionism. I don't get any negative feedback from my peers or supervisors. I just need to start doing a few hours of work at home a week which I have done for most of my career but not this year. I rather leave on time and do a little work at home than stay late.

Got my Covid booster and flu vaccine. Had to go to 2 different pharmacies as the one I made the appointment with was out of the 65+ flu vaccine. I was able to get both in the same arm. The pharmacist who gave me the Covid booster suggested I take 2 "tylenol" when I get. home and repeat every 6 hours so that's what I will do. Need to bake DH birthday cookie for tomorrow and make lunch for tomorrow - oven "friend" breaded (with ground up pretzels) Tilapia, rice and salad.

Cool and gray out, but appreciate the cooler weather. Warming up. to 70s tomorrow.

    Have a great Sunday

    Happy Birthday to DH, Karen!

I was busy, busy yesterday with no time for exercise (although I get 10,000 steps). Toady we did a hike with the dog & I went to Yoga tonight.

Karen: Happy Birthday to your dh!

Ruth: Are you cooking/baking for something special?

My exercise yesterday and today has been painting pumpkins. I haven't been inspired this year. Part of it was getting covid (totally over it now) and then the place where I like to buy the pumpkins was closed bc the owner had surgery. I have 2 friends with October birthdays and I like to give them a pumpkin so I knew I better get inspired, or at least partly inspired, and get some pumpkins. Painted 8 of them. Here are pictures of a few. One friend likes owls so the one with an owl on a swing is her gift.

Oh my goodness, Wonderland, I would like to order one of each for my front porch!

The wife of one of DH's best friends has ALS. He has had to take over all the cooking so I have been making a big meal (so there will be leftovers) for them every other week. (She has been on an experimental drug and has been holding her own. There is no guarantee of how long it will last, but for now is very encouraging.) Anyway, since it is COLD here; I made chicken wild rice soup, beer bread, carrot cake & sent over some tree picked apples & caramel, and some veggies & dip. And, I made the same thing for us, so it's a win/win situation!

I'd gladly trade my pumpkins for your dinner!

Sorry about your friend's wife. Grateful that she is doing well on the drug. You're a good person, Ruth. (But we already knew that)

Wonder - you are so talented!!! But we already knew that.

Ruth - the menu sounds yummy.

Found out my new assignment after this one ends. I'm at this school through November 1st - then I'm headed to a 6-12 school. It's a vacancy - the school psych quit - so I'll be there till the position is filled - we have no school psych applicants so they will fill it with a social worker. My friend who does the float assignments said it will be a doozy!! My biggest complaint is the hours will be 8-4. I've been spoiled working 7-3 and home before 3:00. This school is near downtown so traffic will be worse, plus its a little farther from my house - won't be home till 4:30. I much prefer the early hours. They moved middle and high school start times till 8:30 or 9 and moved elementary earlier.

Thankfully no side effect from either shot.

Oncologist office called today. All good cancer wise, but he is concerned with my elevated Calcium, so he wants to run more labs. I go Thursday after work. I had my parathyroid labs in June and they were somewhat elevated which prompted a referral to endocrinologist. She ran 24 hour urine with calcium and it was within normal limits. Don't remember what labs nurse said oncologist wants to run. It's always something!!!

    Quiet there today.

A little bit worried and a little bit scared. I went for the additional labs my oncologist wanted done and asked what they were - of course I had to check out Dr. Google. Sure hope my oncologist is being overly cautious. He ran PTH, PTH peptides and ionized calcium. My poor left vein has so much scar tissue that last week and today, no blood would flow so using my right (BC side/lymph node removed) for blood draw. My blood calcium has been elevated for a couple years - at my physical in June, my PCP ran Vit D and parathyroid levels. Parathyroid was slightly elevated so referral to endocrinologist. Endocrinologist did a 24 hour urine with calcium and it was normal. Endocrinologist didn't seem too concerned. Only change was that Prolia was for life. Only real treatment for hyperparathyroid disease is surgery but based on my levels it was indicated (happy to hear). But now I'm worried. Oncology nurse called Tuesday saying oncologist was worried about calcium level being elevated and wanted to run some more labs. So now its wait and see. As the endocrinologist said to me, you have so much. going on with you!!! But at this point no treatments. No family history of any of my diagnoses and the list keeps getting longer and longer.

43 this morning but got to the high 70s. Gorgeous weather and the tree colors are beautiful. But work is freezing. I wear a fleece all day and still cold. I'm okay in sandals and bare legs, but my chest and hands freeze.

Google meets with the SP and SW at my new assignment. The SP is the one who is leaving. I'm sure I will find out a ton of useful information. Winding down my time at the elementary school I've been at since April. It's been a great coverage. I've made nice connections with staff and students. The SP I've been covering for is coming back from maternity leave Nov 1st. I'm happy for her that she got to stay home for 6+ months with her baby and son.

    Sweet dreams and happy Friday

Ruth: Yesterday's picture looks like it was taken in January. Cold!

Karen: Oh my goodness. I hope you get your results back quickly. Dr. Google can be a scary source for information. Thinking of you. Heart

It is quiet here like Karen said. I've been quiet also at home with not much going on. Coming down from the wedding and then getting Covid has left me quiet. Thankfully I'm on my way to perking back up. The ups and downs of life!

I hope you get the tests back quickly too, Karen. Don't put too much stock in Dr. Google as it generally gives you the worst case scenario. Hope you have some fun things planned this weekend to keep your mind off things.

Wonderland, in January the WWW pictures will almost always be indoors!!! It actually warmed up to a lovely 71 degrees today, so we can't complain. A friend, her dog, the neighbor dog and I had a playdate this morning. A dog walk this afternoon, Dance2fit after that & we went to a high school football game tonight. Our team won so are in the playoffs which start next week. Whoo Hoo!

Ruth: Your high school football team is always good!

Met a friend for a walk this morning. Mowed for 30 minutes late this evening. Will try to finish the yard tomorrow or Sunday. Tomorrow is a huge festival in my city. Like so many activities, it was cancelled for 2 years. Usually 150,000 people come and I expect that many tomorrow. Dh and I are parking cars in the morning and then we will walk around the festival so I may not be willing to mow tomorrow when we get home lol.

In the afternoon we went to a corn maze. I really wanted to go (dh was a team player and went with me). Tomorrow night the maze will be a haunted maze. That would be creepy!

I'm trying to look like the scare crow in Wizard of Oz when he gives Dorothy directions to Emerald City.

It is 29f (-2c) out, and I am getting ready to go row. Outside. On the water.

Crazy. But the on-water season is ending really really soon. I may have to put hot cocoa in my water bottle....

LOVE the painted pumpkins! So much talent in this group!

The rest of the weekend I am afraid will be spent cleaning house and sorting clothes -- I still haven't done my summer to winter switch out. Just not mentally ready! :)

OH! Big news -- I met my new oncologist. I had hoped she would say it was OK to take a few days break from the anastrazole. Instead, I get a 6 WEEK break!!!! WOOOHOOO! And I can binge on grapefruit! I hope it makes the aches and stiffness better.

yesiamadragon, enjoy the grapefruit!! Leaving in North Dakota, I know what you mean about squeezing in every moment of the 'summer' outdoor activities! I started switching out the closets awhile ago, and finished off dragging the heavy duty winter stuff just the other day.

Wonderland, I'm glad your festival is back on. I love your hat! (And have one very much like it.)

I'm off to Yoga Strength in a few minutes. Another nice day is in the forecast, so there will be at least one long hike with Bruno later on today.

Wonderland, your pumpkins are beautiful. I love the one with the little owl on the swing. You are so talented. Plus I wanted to say you looked so beautiful at your daughter's wedding. You are in great shape.

Karen, good for you for taking the shots. I am like Ruth and like to space them out a bit. I have had reactions to both the Covid and flu shots so I am going to take it one at a time. I also have a B-12 shot every month and the last two months I have bled from the shot. It is so weird. I don't take any blood thinners or aspirin. It does play in to my decision to get one shot at a time.

Yesiamadragon, I a happy you to hear you are outside to get every last day of rowing on the water you can get. I do the same with riding my bike. I love to do it and I try to keep it up as long as I can before my glove covered fingers freeze on the handle bars. It makes me feel alive and happy to be outside exercising. Plus it helps with the low motivation that comes with the loss of sunlight for me.

So I have been walking and riding my bike as much as I can. My hip hurts a lot so I am going back to PT again on Monday. I am trying to put off a surgery for as long as I can. The labrum is torn and it is probably just a matter of time. But the stronger I do the strengthening exercises, the more I can do and that puts me in a better spot for a surgery (if needed).

I hope everyone is able to get some nice weather this weekend.

It was an absolutely perfect morning on the water! Since Head of the Charles is this weekend we had the river to ourselves, the water was glassy, the foliage in the sun reflected on the water... We rowed 4.8 miles. I am going back tomorrow but no one else wants to join me :D. Might be a shot row, but they take the dock out next week...

YesIam: Wow! A 6 week break from anastrazole! That was a nice surprise for you. Your aches and pains need a break and are very thankful I'm sure. Today's rowing conditions sound perfect. Enjoy all you can until the dock is removed.

Coffeelatte: We had so much fun before and during the wedding. Yikes, sorry about your torn labrum. It sounds painful and glad you're going back to PT. Don't blame you for wanting to put off surgery as long as you can. Good thing the strengthening exercises help you.

Ruth: We have had a couple of mornings at the freezing mark. Then it warms up nicely throughout the day. I'll probably switch my clothes in a couple of weeks.

Dh and I parked cars at the festival for 5 hours. Then we walked around the festival. My knees were sore from standing and walking on pavement all day! Had to take Advil when I got home. 9 blocks and side streets are blocked off - it was packed like this picture all day. Easily over 100,000+ people attended throughout the day. That's a lot for my city of 19,000 people! Kinda creepy thinkng about how much Covid is out there.

I'm glad you just had Covid, Wonderland, so at least you should be safe from all those germs floating around town!

Sounds like a lovely day, yesiamadragon!

Coffee, smart to keep at the strengthening exercises; even if you do end up having surgery, it will mean a much faster recovery.

Yoga sounds good after all your yard work, Ruth.

Another glorious day here. Dh and I went to a park about 30 minutes from the house. It was a fun day at a fun park. Rode a carousel and a little train, went through the nature center which included lots of wildlife (even a bear), and ended up walking over 11,000 steps. There are paddle boats there but they weren't available today. Also was hoping to play miniature golf but it wasn't open either.

    Cute picture, Wonderland!

Half the Wednesday Women walked indoors while the rest of us braved the great outdoors to walk over to check out a Haunted Graveyard. A local family goes all out with decorating. People who come by are asked to bring donations for the local Food Pantry; so it's fun & for a good cause both.

The haunted graveyard sounds scary but also nice with the food collection. Great picture!

Got a haircut this afternoon and then walked/ran. It's been 2 weeks since I walked on my regular trail. Good to be back.

Got my flu shot today. Took Tylenol prior to getting it which has always helped me.

Funny thing about the flu shot. When I worked at our hospital the employee health nurse came right to your desk, gave you your free shot and an individual packet of Tylenol, then signed you up for door prizes. Really nice door prizes like a day's vacation, gift certificates. The big prize was getting the hospital's Myrtle Beach oceanfront condo free for 3 nights (a person in the community had willed his condo to the hospital for employees to rent at a reduced price). Even with these door prizes only 50% of the employees would get the vaccine. Just incredulous to me. Could not believe that healthcare employees would not take a lifesaving vaccine. Well, I believe it now since Covid. But in the end, when a bigger hospital bought our hospital the flu vaccine became mandatory (unless for medical or religious exemptions) and no more door prizes.

Walked/ran today at my usual trail. So pretty with the angle of the sun acting like a spotlight on the trees against the Carolina blue sky.
