Quick check in; rainy & cool here, but no ice or snow! Sneaked in a couple walks yesterday, and one long one this morning. We are having a nice, relaxing time.

Glad you're having a good time, Ruth.

Karen: Hope that each day you are feeling better.

Walked this afternoon. So refreshing in the cool air.

Relaxed this morning, deleting old emails. Decided after lunch to go get a mani. While waiting for my nails to dry, I realized how tired I was. Came home and layed down. After dinner, I was feeling okay, until I got my shower and then around 8:00 the fatigue hit me hard. The bandage over the incision is annoying me. This recovery is harder than I thought it would be. Tomorrow is one week. I have several books to read and an adult coloring book, but don't have the attention to read or do anything that takes focus. Deleting emails is mindless.

Ruth - hope the weather improves in AZ. but even if it stays the same its better than ND.

The weather here has been in the 40s and 50s but it doesn't feel that warm as there is no sun. It's gray and like the midwest.

Wonder - sounds like your weather is decent.

    Sweet dreams

Well we are pulling out of the permafrost, seeing our last overnight lows in the "drip the faucet" zone and today going up to high 40's/50. Finally.

Karen: don't be too hard on yourself, we all know it takes a LONG time to heal all the insides.

Love you got to take your AZ trip again this year Ruth, what a wonderful respite mid-winter.

    Take care everyone, TT

Remember recovery is usually one step forward and two backwards, Karen.

Last night, we went to a Credence Clearwater Revival (tribute band) concert & we met my cousin and his wife for breakfast. Luckily those were indoor events because it was pouring down all night & morning. There was a break in the rain, so we took a nice walk. It's supposed to clear up by tomorrow, which I hope is true! I'm out of long sleeved tops!

Anyone here doing chest exercises with weights after bilateral breast implants? Wondering how heavy? I'm hesitant in going past 8lb dumbbells (this even feels too much at times). Can't do a full pushup yet. I have had BMX about 1 year ago. Wondering how the chest exercises will affect the implants (below the pec placement)? My plastic surgeon was not worried. Thank you

Hi snm, hopefully someone will chime in. I had a lumpectomy, so can't be of help.

The sun poked out a little. We took a very nice walk in a riparian preserve with our friends (my phone isn't letting me post pictures).

SNM - I had bilat with implants - I've used 2-3# weights but not specifically chest exercises - more for running/walking. Mine are also below the muscle. If your PS isn't worried, I would trust his/her opinion if you are confident in them. Welcome to the group

    Nice picture Ruth!

SNM, I'm a unilateral and do weights/push ups…With under the muscle implants, the tighter the muscles will push down on the implants for some…so there seems to be a balance between building strength (always good) and major weightlifting muscle development (not what you were saying, but that doesn't work well with implants like ours). I am big into yoga and can do handstands - so lots of weigh bearing, core/chest muscle strength. So like Karen said, if your Dr is okay with it, start slow and progress…and let us know how it is going, welcome! TT

Thank you trmtab and karen1956 for your helpful insight and reassurance. I have no wish to be a body builder but would like to have some upper body strength, and so will keep working on my light weights.

snm: Welcome! Glad you had some guidance from Karen and TT. I had a diep so I don't have any insight for you.

TT: I'm impressed that you do headstands!

Ruth: Great picture! Happy that it quit raining for you.

Well, it's rainy here now and will be through most of the weekend. I have been busy making a photo book with some of the pictures I had scanned. This one is a small book of favorite pictures of the kids growing up. At some point I will make the big book which will cover 26 years.

Yesterday was the first day that I started to feel decent - no more nausea after eating, but then I needed a nap at 10 - I got up at 6:30 and by 10:00 I was falling asleep - slept for an hour. So far this morning at 7:00 - I've been up for 1/2 hour, I'm feeling decent. Hope it continues. Today is day 10 since surgery.

It's snowing this morning. Denver will probably on get 1 - 2" snow and then next week it will be in the high 50s to 60! Winter in the Rockies.

    Have a great Friday.

Well, I too would be impressed if I could do a HEADstand…oh my poor neck!

However, I can do HANDstands…which in the yoga world are various poses where all your weight is on your hands, so low to the ground, like crow.

Well the weather has broken and today is in the low 70's and very humid, so we went from too cold ugh, to too muggy ugh…The best thing however is the few days of 60's and 70's will bring our ground temps back up so if/when we have another cold spurt, we won't have a hard freeze.

Will get to the gym later today, which makes 4 times this week…

Oh, and Wonderland, I did put in my order for girl scout cookies last week! I always buy more to support the girls and then give them away (keeping some of course)

Have a good weekend, continued healing Karen, TT

Glad you are feeling better, Karen. Continue to rest when your body tells you to!

We went up to Fountain Hills yesterday. It's a town built around a man-made lake & has a fountain in the middle. It has a nice walking path and many interesting sculptures along the path. Today (our last day) finally has 'Arizona January Weather' (sunny, calm, mild). I took a long walk & am now outside drinking coffee.

TT: Lol that I mistakenly read Headstand and not Handstand! Well, I'm also impressed that you do Handstands. Thanks for buying Girl Scout cookies. I hope to buy mine this weekend.

Karen: Hopefully the nausea has stopped for good. Happy that you are feeling better each and every day.

    Ruth: Soak up the sun!

Like TT, we had low 70s temperatures today. I met a friend for a short walk. Came home and sat outside to read my book.

We had a very smooth travel day yesterday & walked in our front door about 5:00pm. DH & Bruno went for a walk while I unpacked and started washing clothes and going through the mail. It is sunny here and 44 (which is amazing weather for North Dakota in January. We went for a walk and I should be out grocery shopping; instead I am on the computer and watching football. I have a list of things I will need to get started on tomorrow.

Welcome home Ruth. Happy you came home to pleasant weather.

Gorgeous weather in Denver today. Blue skies, sunny and 60F. Couple nice walks. Definitely at a slower pace, but I'm not complaining. The weather is supposed to be nice through Thursday, then I think winter will be back.

Still tired. Took a nap this afternoon - also had a massive headache. Also dozed off a couple other times today. I am listening to my body, but it is slower than I anticipated, but this is what my DH thought. Anxious for post op appointment on Tuesday morning - to get the bandage off and the ends of the stitches cut off. It just annoys me knowing its there. I'm so glad that I have 3 more weeks off work. At least when I go back, hopefully I'll be back to near full speed. Pathology came back normal - I wasn't really worried as it is generally not cancerous.

I looked online at my claims for surgery. Hospital bill is closed to 130K and my share is zero. Anesthesiologist bill is also zero! I think it was 3K. No claim yet for surgeon. I haven't seen EOB for hospital so not sure if I will have lab bills or what else. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I went to Zumba this morning, followed by grocery shopping. The weather here is gorgeous. This afternoon, we kidnapped the grand-dogs so they could have a little Spring Break (playing in our yard, going for a long car ride with the windows open, more playing in the yard & chewing on frozen bones). I think I will go back to Pound tonight.

Glad you can get rid of the bandages tomorrow, Karen!

Karen: I know you are glad to be getting the bandage removed and the stitches cut off.

Ruth: I bet the doggies had a great day.

Got a haircut and then walked this afternoon.

  • Karen it is great to see you are home and in recovery mode. I am also happy for you to hear the nausea is letting up. It is so draining to have the nausea after surgery (I usually do). I hope you have a really good post surgery appointment.

Ruth I was surprised to hear Arizona was so wet and chilly. I have never been there so I had the impression it was sunny, dry, with warm weather all winter. I was happy to see you were out of the deep freeze and able to get out and walk. I have been stuck home a lot this winter due to weather. We have been in a drought since fall so the rainy days and snow were much needed here.

Since I can’t get out to walk, I have found some nice exercise routines on YouTube. I found a mother (81) daughter (58 and the fitness trainer) combo who have a lot of videos for indoor walking, steps, and weight training. It’s a good level for me because it isn’t too difficult. The daughter uses heavier weights, but she’s so sweet and gentle with her mother and constantly encourages here. The mom is able to keep up with a great attitude. It’s a pleasure to watch them. It gets me up and gets me moving several times throughout the day, and it just lifts my spirits. if anyone’s interested, it’s called “yes2next”. It may be too basic for a lot of the ladies here, but it works for me because I have some lymphedema in my left arm so I haven’t gone over 4 pounds using weights for upper body. Sometimes when I’m bored at night watching TV I’ll find one of their workout videos that sounds good to me and I just get up and do it. And I like it on my big screen TV, I feel like I’m in the same room with them. It helps me keep moving rather than sitting on the sofa. So it’s been a good find for all these great days.

I hope everybody is doing well and is able to keep moving.

Quick post op visit with the surgeon. He snipped the ends of the stitches. The incision looks good. He folded over the skin and said it will take a year to smooth out - but at my age with wrinkles, it's not very noticeable. He asked how I was doing and I said good except for being tired. He said being tired was expected for a month - even without surgery and just the anesthesia. I'm so glad that I took all the time off work. He said he doesn't do calcium levels and my levels are probably WNL. He said he leaves that to the endocrinoloigst. I asked how long to continue the calcium (Tums) and he said till I see the endocrinologist at 6 weeks post surgery. Seeing the endocrinologist on the 28th of February. Not worried about labs as I have labs on Tuesday for my hematologist appointment on February 13, then again at the end of the month for Nephrologist. I think March is a no doctor month. Start back up in April!!

Gorgeous weather today. It's currently 52 with high projected to be 60. Supposed to be nice through Thursday. Rain/snow storm predicted for the week-end. Meteorologist aren't sure yet if it will be rain or snow. If it's snow it will be a lot of snow - 6 or more inches. They are saying more idea of snow or rain tomorrow. I'd rather have snow especially since I don't have to drive in it and I can walk in snow easier than rain.

Went for a long walk - and I think I did a little too much - 50 minutes.

Coffee - the exercise videos sound interesting.

Ruth - I'm sure you and the doggies had a good afternoon.

I will check out those videos, coffeelatte, anything that makes people feel good & gets them moving is a good thing!

Karen, anesthesia really messes a person up. My hairdresser says it even takes 6 months for your hair to fully recover! (So if you need a color or perm, get it before a planned surgery!)

Another gorgeous day here. I went to lunch with some friends & didn't even wear a coat! Zumba & Yoga tonight.

The Wednesday Walking Women walked in the local university's new sports bubble (the brother of 2 of our members works at the college & got us in). We then ate breakfast at the cafeteria. College food is a lot tastier than it was when I was in school!

coffee : Thanks for the information on the YouTube channel. Sounds like something I would like and need. I love to walk outside but I also need something when doing that isn't feasible.

Karen: I imagine it was reassuring to you to hear the doctor say that being tired is to be expected for a month.

Ruth: That's a sweet looking sports bubble. And definitely a sweet looking Bruno!

Been running errands and going to the dentist the last 2 days so no formal exercise. Tomorrow I'm getting my car serviced and plan to walk after that. Starting tomorrow we will be experiencing nice sunny weather for several days and I better take advantage of them.

Gorgeous day today in Denver. Currently is 59F, blue sky and the sun is shining. I was actually warm when walking and took my coat off. High will be 60 and its our 5th day at 60. First time I've been warm walking and walked without a coat in a long time. Lately, I always seem to be cold. At night, in the 40s, I'm wearing my heavy, heavy coat and not hot. I ordered a heated vest - the first one I ordered size small and it is too big, so I ordered a different one in XS (my size). My son came for dinner last night and I tried it on for him and said it was too big (especially around the arm holes) and he said it wasn't too big, I was "too skinny". He never comments about my size so I was a little surprised by the comment. Still love the guy to pieces!

Yesterday, DH and I went to see the movie American Fiction. It was good but dragged a little.

I finally got an answer to my question that I sent to my HR person last week. It includes the return to work form that I will get my surgeons office to complete before I go to see my kids. I thought my return date was Tuesday 02/20, but that is my last day off. My return date is Wednesday 02/21 so that is nice as it gives me an extra day to recoup from the trip. Only thing is, my first day back, I have a 7:30am dental cleaning which has been non the calendar for 4 months. Didn't think to change it. Not sure where I'll be when I go back so don't know the start time. It can be as early as 7:00 or 8:00. I don't think staff have any start times later than 8.

I've been peeking at work emails to see what is there, especially from HR, but I'm not opening any up. but yesterday I did - I got the nicest email from a parent. It will definitely go in my portfolio as part of my evaluation. I will write the parent back next week. My away message says I'm not checking emails while on FMLA.

Need to go to Costco as we are almost out of Pellagrino and it is on sale. The only thing is that I can't lift the cases, so DH needs to go with me. I want to get the max 5 cases - but even if I only was getting one, I could not lift it. DH and I don't generally shop together and haven't most of our 46+ year marriage. We decided early on that we would rather spend our time together doing something other than shopping.

Ruth - gorgeous picture of Bruno and you. Great weather by you. Enjoy it while it lasts. Bruno is a good looking boy. The WWW look like you had a fun morning.

Weather is talking about the coming storm. Heavy snow in the high country. The Denver metro area they still aren't sure, but for now still saying rain/snow mix. Starting Friday night. I'd rather have snow than rain as at least we can walk.

  • ruthbru
    ruthbru Posts: 49,019

I'd rather have snow than rain at this time of year too, Karen. My backyard is very shady & all the snow melted and turned to ice. Yikes! It has been warm enough to melt off the streets & sidewalks, so that is good. DH, Bruno & I just got back from a nice walk in a park. I'll go to Dance2fit & Yoga tonight. I have saved any nice note given to me by students and parents. They can't realize how much they mean to us. Priceless.

  • karen1956
    karen1956 Posts: 4,678

Watching the local 4pm news - they still aren't sure about this storm that they have been talking about all week - not sure how much snow we will get - big range - ski areas might get 1 -2 feet of snow. But what they are saying is that it will be a wet mess! So far in Denver, no precipitation. Now they are saying snow, heavy snow by this time tomorrow!! I guess, I'm slow in writing this.

Can't remember if I mentioned that we went to see American Fiction the other day - apologize if I am repeating myself. Good movie.

Today is my SIL's birthday and he is in the hospital. He has ileus - it is a slowing or stoppage of intestional flow (sorry if TMI) - different than a blockage. He things they'll keep him till Sunday or Monday as they want to watch him. I feel so bad. He was in the hospital on her birthday 3 years ago when he was having gall bladder problems while the doctors were debating whether to do surgery - which thankfully they did.

Today is my official anniversary of my BC dx but the 3rd is when I heard the awful news! 18 years. Next month is one year for the MM.

Have a great Friday night and Saturday!
