Carol-DCIS discovered in September 2008 with calcifications on routine mammography at age 44.  Bilateral mastectomy.  Not have routine mammos until after 50?  No one knows whether DCIS would have turned invasive, but I am sure glad that I didn't wait six years later for it to be discovered!

At age 40, I was diagnosed with breast cancer which had just started to spread to my lymph nodes.  I am thankful for that routine mammogram which detected my cancer and thankful for being a 5-year cancer survivor.

I signing it because my TNBC was diagnosed at age 41 during my routine screening mammogram.  My mammogram saved my life and I am 2 years out from diagnosis.  Early diagnoses is the key to survival

My DCIS was found in routine mammogram in Dec 2008.  Had mastectomy in Jan 2009 and then had prophylactic mastectomy on the other side 2 weeks ago.  Sister had invasive at 34 and several friends have had either invasive or DCIS.  The guidelines should not be changed.

I was diagnosed via a mammogram at age 47.  A lump was then found via follow-up MRI in the other breast that even the doctors could not subsequently find during an ultrasound.  I had been getting annual mammograms  at age 30 because my fibrocystic breast.

Dx at age 41. Found the lump while doing a self exam. Mammo (first ever) and tests confirmed 2.5 cm tumor. No family history. Had lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy. Currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Dx with TNBC type 3 when I was 47 years old.  Doctor ordered a routine annual mammogram because my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 52.  The lump was found in the mammogram.  Gynocologist and general surgeon could not find the lump without viewing the mammogram.   If I had not had a mammogram until age 50, I would be dead.

Just diagnosed at age 43, no family history of cancer. Lump not detected in regular self-exams or physician exams. Mammogram probably saved my life. Still waiting on details of diagnosis, but I'm guessing that if I had had to wait until age 50 for a mammo, I wouldn't be around...

Judy, diagnosed at 52 through a mammogram and second cancer found by self exam at age 54.  I am very concerned about my daughter being able to receive mammograms at the age of 35, which her doctor recommends due to my diagnosis.  I also completely don't understand why they are telling women not to do self exams!

    Dear Ladies,

In Hong Kong, the greatest number of women with BC are aged 40 to 50. I was 47 in January when I was diagnosed with invasive cancer stage 2A, grade 3. A mammagram further found a second lump.

Do not raise teh age to 50 - it's a matter of life and death for us but for those in power, jsut  a play of numbers................

June Harrigan diagnosed April 6, 2009 2.4cm stage II two months before 43rd b'day during first mammogram no family history Triple Negative. I had a mastectomy right breast on May 1st and started first course of chemo (doxorubicin with nuelasta shot the day after) June 16th which lasted eight weeks and then second round (taxol) for twelve weeks (every week). Just got my all clear on November 16 and will be able to go home. I have been staying in Baltimore with my sister and family originally from U.S.Virgin Islands. I came here for a vacation March 31st and did a physical which was planned with a mammogram. This was the last thing that my family and I expected. Thank God I did the mammogram as my husband encouraged. Nothing showed up on July yearly checkup in 08. We need mammograms sooner not later. This recommendation is not a good idea.

I have not been diagnosed, but lost a grandmother and aunt to BC. It sounds like these new findings say mammograms don't save enough lives to make it worth while. Isn't even one life worth saving?

I was i diagnosised in 2002 wiht stage 1 breast cancer and given a small chance of recurrence. By the time I was 49 I had stage IV with continuous treatment. From my viewpoint we don't have the aswsers yet, and based on  my  case these recommendations provided by  this proposal won't help either.

Early Diagnosis through a routine mammography saved my life...Stage 0 Grade 3

Very close to stage 1 as my DCIS Insitu with Comedo (grade 3); a tumor that grows fast...

This cancer would never have been found with a routine breast exam; the proof being

I had a physical exam 2 weeks prior to my mammography...no lump detected..

I am so blessed that I am vigilant in keeping up with my routine Mammography...

Cancer free two years later after lumpectomy; radiation treatments; tamoxifen therapy

    I have wonderful vigilant doctors!

I detected a lump in my breast by self exam when I was 40 years old.  It turned out to be invasive breast cancer.  I had no family history of breast cancer.  The doctors weren't even going to do a biopsy because there was no family history.  They kept saying I really don't think it's anything.  They ended up giving me a biopsy just because of my age.  I truely believe that the self examination saved my life.

My BC was found by self-exam.....did not show up on mammogram even though I have one every year.  I was told to 'ignore it' by my physician even though I have a family history.  Six months later I was sent to a surgeon.....demanded an MRI on both breasts and in April had lumpectomy and partial mastectomy with radiation.

Thank God for knowledge of self-exam and Internet education.  Ladies get those mammograms....do self exam....it's free....where's the recommendation that men no longer do any self-exams!

my sister was diagnosed through mammography at age 36...I was diagnosed early in my 52nd year because of very careful screening due to family history.
