Barbe, I give all the ladies on this thread my admiration for all the crap you are going through....never mind BC.....I will add a big hug to my admiration. There was a discussion going on on another thread about how some of us feel, lucky, guilty and

Wimpish when we read about people like the ones on this thread going through so much,

and that's how I feel. I feel compared to most of you here, I have, or should have, nothing to gripe about, but, as someone else said, "cancer is cancer" no matter what treatment you had or didn't have, so I will try to remember this. The ladies on here inspire me so much, give me courage to continue, and help me to give myself a kick in the backside when I start to feel sorry for myself. So, again hugs to everybody.

Barb - no the bruising is almost gone I'm just left with pain which is getting better so I'm not worried just was unprepared for how much pain there was. I literally wondered if I had broken my wrist - I guess I could have hit my hand as well but I don't think so.... Thanks for the concern though

Yes, it is Friday for Kate's pet scan- then the wait for results...

Claire- hate losing posts.... Lost a long PM a few days ago and didn't go back for a while... Wish that had been an upgrad with the new changes on the site.

Hey everyone- I only have a second as it's my DS's 16th birthday and we're going out to celebrate him getting his driver's license today.  Yep, PET scan is Friday and I get the results on Monday.  I will say this about MD Anderson- they don't mess around!  I'm also meeting with the genetic counselor on Monday and doing possible blood work for the genetic testing.

Ok I have to sit down and read everything lots to catch up on but before I turn the page and forget what I have already read here is my two cents..

3Jays love the pic of you and your boys and your new wig!! Very nice.

Stanzie I have the cholesterol of a 500lb man! My BS was stunned when he saw it and said he was afraid I wouldnt make it to the OR (I think that was a joke of sorts) I have been on Lipitor for two years and have perfect levels now. The med your doc wrote a script for sounds like the generic Lipitor. It made a substantial difference in 90 days. Worth taking. Are you done your paper??

Kate I am glad you and your DH got some good news finally!

Maddie When I was doing chemo I had my TE reduced because I was so uncomfortable. Taxotere causes fluid retention so that may be why it feels so tight. I lowered my sodium intake and decreased the TE about 100ccs and what a difference it made. Maybe if your PS takes some fluid out of your TE you will feel better. UGH I remember that feeling.

MAC you sound like you have the same lung issue as my friend she has Nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection. It took a while to diagnose and since she was recently diagnosed with ILC she has had increase infection and is on 3 different antibiotics. I believe it will never fully go away but gets better and worse. She is having a procedure done next week to flush the lungs and biopsy the pathology to determine what bacteria is in her and to determine a new treatment. She sees Dr. Linda Barr who is a top pulmonologist in the US.

Ok I have to keep reading. Sorry I havent been here much I had my niece and her friends at my house all weekend and  am still catching up on my sleep. They were exhausting. I also got pulled in on two special projects...CHA CHING so mama's gotta work when the work is here. Ok back to reading ...

Diane!!!! You crack me up! Done with my paper??????? You have got to be kidding! OMG I haven't written a paper in.... what 30 years!! I didn't write well back then but at least I knew how to do a bibliography back then.... NO !!!! I'm still trying to narrow my topic down... It has to be a paper which will be a 45 minute talk!!! Oh yes I have to present this  - last time I spoke in public my teeth chattered so much I had to go sit down! Then the thing is archived in the prestigious Atlanta History Center for eternity!

The group of 35 women are comprised of the movers and shakers in the community- I'm in only cause my friend recommended me and she got in cause her house was where the first meeting was held in 1905! We are --- get this --- the YOUNG ones - LOL!! Anyway, these women are brilliant authors and poets and oh my their resume's are so totally intimatiding. Another is a reporter and I'm..... ummmm wait I know this one.. '

Anyway, do not get to choose topic it is assigned so my topic is Atlanta's Role in the Civil Right's Movement. And the woman who is hosting- most do it in their home(lunch is served afterwards) or in a restaurant but NOOOOOO this sweet lovely lady wants to do something really special and wants to hold it .... oh say in Ebeneezer Church or at Morehouse College so lots of other people would Love to come hear this middle age white woman talk about the Civil Right's Movment and what my lame take on it will be... Oh shoot me now!!!!

It isn't till the second Wednesday in November and I'll be ill..... Oh MY!!! So Diane - you are just so funny.... Oh and the whole year will be on the movement so other people are doing the law, education, women, politics, housing and such... so I can't trample on their subjects... Why on earth am I doing this??

Fantastic photo 3jays!! You look foxy! And you didn't mention how handsome your DH is!

I'm at MDA for my 6 monther. Waiting for chest X-ray. Hate how you have one test and then another and then another and you get so far behind on time. I hate waiting. Doesn't help with the anxiety.

Good thing that I'm here cause I'm boycotting the tv today. Not a good night last night. Not in the mood to hear people gloat!! Funny thing is my DH and I are exact opposites on that note. Well, actually quite a few things ---sometimes I wonder what we talk about!! Used to be able to say at least the sex is good! Ha!

Stanzie- I admire you for signing up to do that presentation!  I am terrified of public speaking.  (Weird since I used to be a flight attendant but put me in a uniform with a rehearsed speech and it's different somehow.)  I think it's so cool that it's going to be registered forever but, sorry, they'd have to drag me to the podium kicking and screaming.  I know you will be AMAZING, though!

Claire- Good luck at MDA.  I'll be there tomorrow.  Hoping I won't have to wait too long because I have to fast for the scan which makes me really cranky Yell.  Almost as much as all this political $*** does.  Is it November, yet?

Stanzie--I'm with you Kate,I can't believe you volunteered for this. How BRAVE!! Think how proud of yourself you will be once you're done! Have you thought of any ideas? Maybe some little known family or a small business that fought and how it effected them. Make it personal and relate-able. good thing the Archives isn't shut down YET!! My DH did Toastmasters for years,I even majored in Communications. But me in front of people, sweat, heart racing, no its not a pretty sight!

Kate what time is your scan in the AM? Hope you don't have to wait too long. I was there for almost 4 hours this am, but at least I'm done for 6 months. I peaked at my chest xrays and they looked real pretty. Don't have a clue what I would look for but it looked pretty textbook normal to me. Doc said last appt's bloodwork confirmed menopause so she said if today's blood work double confirmed it, she would switch me to Arimidex. Ho boy, cant wait!

Claire- My check-in is at 11:30.  They start the iv and then I have to sit in a room by myself for an hour (hope I can take my Ipad in) before they start the scan.  I have to fast 6 hours before so guess I'll be setting the alarm for o'dark thirty so I can get some breakfast in.  Me without food....talk about not a pretty sight.  lol!

Don't know much about the meds- which is worse Tamox or Armidex?

3jays that is a lot of testosterone!! Great pic!!!!

Stanzie ...didnt mean to suggest you were back in school...couldnt find my words. Been having a lot of that lately. I dont mind public speaking if its a topic I am knowledgable and passionate about

Claire were you on Femara or Tamoxifen? I know some on Arimidex and I think that sounds worse. I hope you do well on it and are SE free! knock on wood...despite my thickening endometrium (yick) I havent had any really horrible side effects once the meds setttled in my system. I hope your appointment went well

Kate I hope your PET confirms arthritis..and nothing more. Good luck tomorrow will be thinking of you!

Ok been busy trying to wrap up some individual tax work and wouldnt you know it my friend is the last one...as always. I told her if she didnt get me her stuff first thing Monday I wouldnt be able to do it by the 15th...we'll see.

So tonight I bought a very cute light pink leather jacket (like a dusty rose not bubblegum pink) ..so I proudly told my sister of my latest purchase and she goes . "Pink?!?!?! Oh for breastcancer??" I said no cause I like pink. Geesh!

Ok ladies hope everyone has a great Friday.

    Hugs to all

Kate--good luck today!! You should be able to take your IPad with you. If I remember my last one, they send  to a waiting room to let the stuff do its magic. I wish I had brought something--I think I slept!!! I was amazed how simple a dexascan is. Still glad its over and  have that "milestone" done. This getting older crap is well, just crap! Diane I have been on Tamoxifen, MO said the bad side effect with Arimidex is muscle aches, but she said hot flashes, ovary/uterus, clotting are not issues. And now I can officially say I'm in menopause. Wow what a moment in time. This being a woman is just one fun time after another!

Diane--I bet that jacket looks adorable. Sometimes pink is just pink. I bet it looks awesome on you!

My oldest DS is coming home from UF today--and going straight to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. Both of my boys are such social loners--everytime he comes home I ask if he is seeing any friends and he looks at me like I have three heads. So today I am perfectly fine with maybe not seeing him much this weekend. Do have to make some banana bread this morning since its his favorite. DH tells me to dust, vacuum and change his sheets and my first response is why? He will never know!! But of course good moms do as expected.

3jays-sure your heart check up will go great---they'll just see what a great big, loving heart you have!!!Smile

Hope all have a great weekend! Is it Fall yet???

Kate, Good luck today. When I have to lie real still for tests, I use an old yoga trick and pretend to be a stick of butter on a beach. It usually works for me. I'm impressed with how fast the Banner MD Anderson folks will have your test results back for you. We all  have our fingers crossed.

Kate don't eat carbs for breakfast!! The whole point of the restricted diet and not moving is that ANY recent muscle activity will light up a PET and as your body absorbs the carbs and they begin to break down, that shows up as activity. That's why PETs have so many false positives! That's also where that urban legend about carbs "feeding" cancer began!

3jays, your DH reminds me of mine! A big guy but really a soft teddy bear deep inside (for me!)....

    3jays great great pic.

Kate good luck today! I hope you get results back on time. Thinking that you will need to stay busy this weekend so you don't dwell.  Silly me you are always busy with fun activities :) Seriously, thinking about you.

Cmbear, I was on Tamoxifen for 2.5 years. Now on generic Aromasin. Horrible nauseau, joint, bone and muscle aches. But then I requested the generic Aromasin by the manufacterer Greenstone. That is the company that makes the brand Aromasin and their generic has the same exact fillers as the brand.  You wouldn't believe the difference! Still some of the same side effects but at a lower level.  So that is one thing to consider. Not sure about the Arimidex manufacterer stuff. I hope your son has a great weekend.  I know even though they may not notice that stuff we all do it :)

Diane I am like you, if I am passionate about something I like to talk to a group.  I did that several time at fund raisers when I was really involved with Habitat for Humanity.

Okay so they moved my appointment time two hour drive away 3 times yesterday! Funny when she called the third time I said ok.  It takes two hours to get there even though it is only about 40 miles because of traffic. Call me if you are running late so I don't have to sit in the office.  I understand he was delayed in surgery. If I was on the table I would not want my surgeon in a rush!  So we got downtown and decided to go to Crate and Barrel. Then they called luckily after we were done and said oh his surgery got done and he is back waiting. Funny.  I could tell he was surprised by how inflamed my hips were. You could see the stiches under the skin working up to the surface. He said that area is hard as your clothes rub and the skin has gotten thin. So he dug in a bit and pulled the stiches on both hips.  Can I say ouch! He said put ointment on them and cover. But he did not feel they were infected.  Yeah! Felt the areolas area that was debrided was healing fine, slow but fine and give it about one more week. Then he said needs to do a nipple revision on the right. He will do the next fat graft at that time as well. In six weeks. Well they can't get me in until the end of December! Darn I wanted to be totally done by the end of the year. But oh well it is moving forward and for that I am certainly thankful. Then have to wait six weeks or so and finally tatoo.

So small steps forward but at least going forward. I am grateful for all of you.  Each of you brings such special gifts to our group. We are alike and yet different, a beautiful blend of hope, laughter, tears, anger, determination. All woven together in a common bond of traveling a terrifying journey that only we can understand.

    Have a good weekend ladies.

    Hello all,

thinking of you all having tests and such.

It is starting to be fall up here in NE. The leaves are starting to turn and the evenings and nights are cool.

3jays, what a great pic!!!!! What a wonderful family. It was the perfect size to really see you!

Stanzie, I, too, am amazed of the project you have taken on, but with preparation you will be wonderful.

I am still busy with shutting down the shop. Getting through paper work and tax stuff. Returning phone calls. Thinking of having the phone disconnected makes me cry.  Just plugging along. The new pulmonary doc has not called back, but my PCP wants to start the discussion about disability next week.

You are right Claire, this getting old crap is wearing thin. My mother always said the "Golden Years" weren't so shiny. Funny how now years later she is starting to make more sense to me.

well, the sun is shining so I will take as deep as breath as I can and go out to meet the day!!!

3jays- You just tell them that nothing is wrong with your heart and we can all vouch for that!  Smile

Diane- I bet you are rocking that leather jacket!

Claire- Growing old is definitely not for sissies- that's for sure!  It is a strange feeling when they first tell you you're in menopause.  It's like when you don't have your car for the day.  You may not want to go anywhere but it's nice to know your car is in the garage if you do!  What's worse is me in menopause and my DS in puberty.  I found this on the blog "Forever 51- Life in a Hormonal House" (forever-51.com).  It's hilarious!

    Don't f*** with me.  I'm flashin'!

This morning was surreal.  My DS drove himself to school for the first time.  My life as a nervous wreck officially begins....

Diane and Hopeful- Well I hope to channel your public speaking confidence when the time comes. Diane- I forgot to go back and look but I didn't think you meant going back to school... hmm we both might be a bit confused.

I like sometimes Pink is pink and I bet you look gorgeous - Alfie would eat it if I had one... sigh..

Hopeful! Thank goodness nothing bad wrong with your hips! and Yes I think you needed to scream that OUCH! Sorry for another revision but at least the end is in sight. I wish my Doc's had even talked about revisions - not that I would use him... when I went for my gyn (did I already tell you all this?) she looked at my fake boobs and nipples and said have you ever heard of 3-d tatoo's. Hmmm guess I'm right they look awful!

kate! thinking of you big time and ACK on your son driving but i'm sure he will be fine. Just think of what an exciting day he is having! Just like you, I'm afraid but in a good way.... Hope your get fabulous news soon and then we all can relax and not worry as much for at least a little while... :)

Barb- hope Kate got your message! Very interesting, I did NOT know that!

It is fabulous how much information we all know.... not that we wish we knew but still helpful now!

Barbe- They told me about the carb thing when they called me yesterday. They also said no sugar. They said to increase my protein and nothing 6 hours prior- not even gum. Something about our jaws moving or something. Weird! Thanks for looking out for me!

I'm starving already and I won't be done until 2:00 they said. 3 1/2 more hours- WAH! :)

Back from my pet scan finally.  It took forever!  The worst part was after they put the i.v. in they take you to this tiny dark room, inject the dye and then you have to just stay there for an hour and a half with nothing to do.  No books, magazines, ipad, ipod...nothing!  I thought I was going to go crazy.  Apparently solitary confinement would be the death of me.  After that they take you in to be scanned.  You have to lay there for 30 minutes motionless or they have to start all over.  I was doing fine but they had music on and "Footloose" started playing.  Seriously?  Have you ever tried to not move a muscle when that song comes on?  Luckily, they were finished at that point.  I get the results on Monday....fingers crossed!

My DH was so funny.  He said to ask the guy, after he injected the radioactive dye, on a scale of 1 to Chernobyl how lit up I was!  lol!

LOL- why on earth would they play footloose? But it is hilarious! Makes a great story... Ok, makes me think no way, would they play that upbeat peice if there was somthing bad... I'm sticking to that!

Sorry or glad you are glowing- just think of the energy savings where ever you go... sorry. I shouldn't type after I've had wine, even though it wasn't much... LOL!

Hi Scottie! Has it been a whole page yet?

    OK, I'm going .... LOL!
