Have made it up Port Augusta and tomorrow will head to Wilpena Pound in the Flinder's National park. My DH loves driving but even he has found that this is a big country with huge distances. We were later leaving than planned because all my get-up -and - go had got up and gone. Took me ages to move today so was quite pleased it was a car trip day though we have walked all around town this evening but then its not very big.

Hi all
Chrissy I have just read about your travels in America etc, it seemed that you had a great time meeting everyone and seeing all the sites. Loved your stories and photos and I'm so glad that you got to see all these amazing places.
Hope that everyone has a great weekend

Hi Aussie oh yeah I had an absolute ball! I can't believe that a year has passed already. I saw some really amazing sites and met some really wonderful people. I so wish that finances would allow me to do it all over again.........at least I have some wonderful memories that will sustain me for a very long time.
Well the cooking is all done so I only need to pack it all up and put it in the car in the morning. I'm really chuffed right now as DD asked me to do the engagement cake and wanted a Mississippi Mud cake coated in dark chocolate ganache. I went mmmmm.......then set to. I'm really pleased to say that she has her wish and it's large enough for forty people!! By tomorrow it will be perfect as it takes three days for a good mud cake to develop that really moist muddy consistency. Must remember to stop at a supermarket in the city and get some fresh cream to serve it with.
Have a great day all!! I'm heading off to bed.......
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
Well I'm shortly off to set up my works stall at the Seniors Expo here today. They are expecting over 12,000 people. I'll be manning it for a couple of hours then come home for a few hours then up to perth for a two day symposium, then home one night and then down to a resort in Margaret River to just chillax with Paul until Friday. Oh boy, I'm a busy bee these days!!
Our big task waiting for us is we have to drain our swimming pool. We turned the pump off in March after a couple of horrendous electricity bills (over $700) and yes we got our bills down to around the $200 mark but our pool is just green. So we have a pool pump ready, and acid to wash it out and give it a good scrub and then re fill it ready for summer. We are also getting solar panels and some other power saving device so that we don't have high electricity prices again.
Weather is now just starting to warm up and become decent. It's been a slow start to spring here. Trish, so glad to hear that you are getting more inquiries for weddings, I'm not surprised though. OK, better get going and get ready for the oldies (which of course technically being over 50, I am one too ) xxxxx

hi Girls, hope everything is ok for you all and that your DD has a great engagment, they have alot to look forward to re food Chrissy. enjoy.
Gosh people who drink and drive, a head on crash up north of us, Gisborne, the drunken driver crossed the centre line and into this car of three, killing all passengers, car caught fire and they were trapped. he killed them and his passenger and he survived, well he is in an induced coma. the women who was driving other car was actually the sober driver for her friends and she was dropping them off. i think if people go out to drink and drive and kill some poor inocent ones who are obeying the laws and actually doing the right thing, it should be prem-meditated murder. they chose to drink and they chose to drive while drunk. but they will get manslughter, if he survives. he is a fifty year old. other carnage cause by drunkeness too in Rotorua, 17 year old has lost her life. what do you do with them? They never learn and ruin so many other lives because of their selfishness, makes my blood boil, having a rant here sorry. what a horrible way for somebody's life to end, trapped in car on fire. dont mean to sound morbid, but i need to get out of my system. I do believe it is total selfishness.

I was thinking of getting on here to rant about drivers too Midnight, Its unbelievable they can do things like that and get rapped over the knuckles. So many of them are repeat offenders too.
I was thinking as I was driving to work today, as I had people breaking down a slope on a straight road doing 50 in a 60 zone, and while I had someone speed up the inside turning lane to jump in front of a few of us stopped at lights, just so he could get 3 cars ahead and make us all slow to take off, and as I saw the car behind the one behind me so close to the rear of that car that it was outrageous, that our governments should be hiring a mass amount of unemployed people, taking them through proper driving techniques and road rules, getting them qualified and then charging all of us say $50 and making it mandatory that every driver on the road redo a written and practical test on driving. If they dont understand or cant read our signals, then their licenses are revoked. Anyone having several dui's, license taken off them, car impounded and crushed. side benefit it would give a heap of people a career and a steady job, cause if they manage to comlete one go round of the population it will be time to start retesting them all again lol
Something needs to be done about how so may drive selfishly, illegally and otheres with aggression. I cant remember the last time I got in my car to take the 7 minute drive to or from work without having some idiot do something stupid or illegal. Is it too much to ask that people pay attention to the road when they are behind the wheel of a car? It is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands after all.
Sigh feels good to get that out.

it sure does linda feel good to get that out. there was also a five car pile in Wainuiomata, wellington, road closed. so must be pretty horrific, not fatal though, just serious injuries. labour weekend too, they don't drive to the conditions either, how many more b4 the holiday period ends.? hate to think. anyway anyone else who wants to rant about careless driving, feel free.

oops have to pipe up with, and what the hell does everything think they are doing talking on their blasted phones evertime they get in the car. I swear sitting at lights, watching people as they turn in front of me, at least every second one has a phone up to their ear. arggggggggggggggggggh. Life is so precious, and they're risking ours cause they just cant wait a minute till they park their car.

Yea, we have blue tooths that goes in the ears for our truck drivers and us, but they need to communicate, but they get caught not using them when its available, they are repremanded. they are hands free, but still encouraged to ring only when truck parked, i have rung somebody and they have stopped and rung back, answered and said will call you back when i stop. that is responsible. changing the radio channel is another thing, my first hubby used to do that and freak me out. i am bit of a nervous passenger. and by the way i miss read that drunken one, it was the drunken drivers whoe's car went up in flames and he got out, but he killed the 33 year old mother in the van, she was the sole occupant and returning from dropping her freinds off and go to her mother, she was sober driver. very sad, it was his rallies who got burnt alive, still murder though, still human beings lost there lives in a senseless way.

We went for a very long drive today to meet with the people we are going on the cycling trip with. We went to the Rosevale Pub - 190kms round trip - not worth it IMHO - the food was outrageously expensive - can you believe $38.99 for an eye fillet steak and $4 extra if you wanted sauce!!! This was just a pub out in the middle of nowhere, why they think they can get away with those sort of prices is beyond me - it wasn't anything special. I had fish - $27 for battered fish and chips!!!

Went for a little drive today. Port A up to Wilpena Pound, then to Blinman across to Parachina and back. The geology was so stunning especially at Wilpena. Didn't walk a great distance as the back is playing up but did wander for about an hour. Gum trees and dry river beds are fine for a short time. Did see emus, kangaroos and lots of birds though. Enjoyed Blinman and Parachilna -Rabbit Proof Fence was filmed round it. As someone had said it was green at present and there were quite a lot of flowers. Some areas looked as if they were covered with little stars, tiny white flowers on silver stems. Then there were the Billy White Buttons and wattle as well as lots of others. Just couldn't get photos. Tomorrow we head down to Burra.

Oh - forgot to let you all know what happened this morning!
Was driving to work and a huntsman walked across the steering wheel!!!! Nearly drove off the road lol He wasn't a huge one thank goodness, but big enough. Worse thing was though, I managed to brush him off, but have no idea where he went! So spent the next half an hour wondering if he was going to crawl up my leg.
I'm still shuddering lol

Trish, I read 'I was driving to work and a huntsman walked across..' and wondered what a hunter was doing walking across in front of you, so now all I can see is a spider with a gun.!!!!!
Wish I could join you in Brisbane, I am jealous. Maybe another time but I will see Chrissy today.
Must get DH moving soon if we are going to do the things planned for today.
Have a good day.

Trisha I'm rolling on the floor with tears rolling down my face as I'm laughing so hard! My ribs are hurting!
My mother is petrified of spiders and I remember when I was about 12 we were in the car and she was driving. We had been to an appointment. Well, we were driving home and I was getting some sort of lecture about something, I can't remember what the something was as I was always getting lectured over something or other. The road was clear, no traffic either way and I was spacing out as kids do......next thing I know, the car has mounted the curb, hit a fence and my mother was running for her life down the road screaming her head off! You can imagine the bewildered look on my face! Any way I just sat and waited for her return and when she eventually did I asked what happened? She said there was a BIG huntsman on the windscreen........... What she failed to say was.......it was on the OUTSIDE!!!!!! I laughed until I cried that day too.......lol
Can't wait for Aly and Cunny to arrive!!!! Excitement plus here!!!!
Have a great day all coz I know I'm going to!!!
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
The cats will sometimes bring in one of these and yest they are this big.

Kazzie, great to hear from you! J'adore Paris! Will check your FB. Have a wonderful time there.
Trish, your weight loss is inspirational and proves it can be done on an AI. I have gained a few kilos back recently that I need to lose.
Chrissy and Alyson, have a great time together :-).0 -
Aly - OMG!! That is huge! Looks like a grasshopper on steroids lol
Chrissy glad that made you laugh - it made my DH laugh as well. Can't say it did the same for me though, but, I'm glad I made your day lol
You two have a wonderful time together, I wish I was there too.
Thanks Racy - I don't know about inspirational lol it's been very hard work, and taken a bit of time, and if I can loose another 15kg I'll be really happy. I think the next 15 will be the hardest somehow.
I had a phone call yesterday afternoon and my pro lens has arrived! Yay! They told me it would take around 4 weeks, but it's only been a week, so am super excited to be able to pick it up this arvo.
Trish

He he. I'm waiting for a parcel to arrive too... rub on nipples/areolas :-) Like temporary tattoos! Ordered a mixed sample pack from the US last week. Figure if I won't be getting the reconstructed ones until about April next year these would be fun in the meantime.
Can't wait for that parcel :-)

Morning all,
Sitting in the kitchen of Chrissy's delightful cottage. Will take photos later and the garden is lovely. Have been stunned by the beautiful roses here in South Australia even right up to the desert.
Trisha so impressed that you can lose weight. My weight loss is so slow but I am getting there and I need to lose another 15kg as well. Want to have lost another 10 by next April when my DS gets married.
Have a great day - I know I will. Think I will need a holiday when I get home.

Hi everybody! Just thought I'd pop in and say a cheery hello. Trish, I loved your advice to melp about the job interview. You write really well! And I chuckled over the huntsman spider episode. Got a few stories about them myself that I LOVE to tell to my American friends. No spiders over here - at least where I live - that are that big. Maybe in the south, but I don't remember ever hearing about spiders that big over here. Glad you didn't wreck the car and I can TOTALLY relate to your being freaked out that the darned thing would crawl up your leg later. EWWW.
Alyson - yecchhhh! What the heck is a weta? It certainly doesn't look too inviting!
Hope everyone is doing okay - sounds like the weather is beautiful down under! We're in the midst of a beautiful autumn but snow is forecast for Denver later in the week. I'll be straight down (wish, wish). Not in the mood for snow this year!
Everyone stay well this week! xoxox

I was watching probably a repeat od Deal or no Deal, the Ausy one, i dont like any other, the nz one sucked. but last nignts one was a repeat and there was a girl on there called Debbie who was doing the deal and she was a BC survivor, she and some of her friends on the podium and they are also BC survors i think, but they have formed a group, a commitee, called the Titti Commitee, they were getting money for them all to go to Quennsland and do the theme parks. i think she won $40.000. for them all to go, there was more than the three of them that were there, about 10 i think and so they would have had a good amount to go up to quensland to do that. She looked good, she told a little of her story, but i did not hear that as my phone rang, but she was pretty bad with it and obviously recovered well at this stage, we can never tell with this disease. am very glad she won heaps, she could of got more except she got carried away and lost the 200 grand and dropped 20 grand. they get greedy, but then she was there to have fun and she was enjoying it and you get one opportunity to get chosen. but she still did so well.liked the name of her group. i dont know how old that deal or no deal was. it was a repeat here. they all are, but i watch it still as i like game shows.

Great photo from Adelaide, but I don't like the bug one. Oh gosh, I'd just die if I saw that for real.
Had a very full two days in Perth at the Symposium, it was great meeting so many of my counterparts and learning about future volunteering trends. I am a bit tired now though. The hotel was nice but the room was too hot and I couldn't make it cooler, but I'm sure I'll sleep like a log tonight back in my old bed. I got an invite in the mail to attend a breast cancer conference next month to hear about latest developments etc in breast cancer. I'll go to it for sure.
Well that's about all my news for now. xxxx

Great photo, ladies. Looks like you are having a nice time! xoxox

Kate, if you do end up going to that BC conference, and you have the time/energy, I'd love to hear any cutting edge news if you'd like to share it. Sending hugs to you!
