Sue/Megan ~ Clambake AND meeting you two? That would be the best!  Would be cool to pull it off one day! :)

takeadeepbreath & lago ~  interesting about the bands/massage.  Does sound like it's purpose is to get them in the proper position. I'm sure whippetmom would know! :)

Actually he said that the massaging it to keep the pocket open and prevent CC. It sounds like the pocket has extra room on the top so I massage them up. The band sounds like it pushes them down so I can get some droop.

Stop talking about clambake. I still haven't made my Cape/visit parents reservations yet.

ok - I'll stop talking about clam bakes...after I "rub it in" just one more time...I've got an annual 4th of July lobster bake this wknd...lobsters, steamers, & oysters...oh, my!!!  Tongue out

    ...ok, I'm done now ;-)

...and speaking of "rubbing" I do believe I havn't spent nearly enough time on massage like some others have.  I feel scar tissue around the outermost of the implants, PT said it was normal, not CC.  I try to massage it when I remember, but honestly, I really don't massage much in there...at 3-plus months I wonder if I missed the boat on that one...

So what exactly does (clambake) scar tissue feel like Megan? I have so many questions (clambake) for my PS next week!!  I'm wondering if I missed the (clambake) boat on the massage too now?

Fire-dancer I don't thinks so. CC can happen at anytime, even years later. The massage should prevent this.

    to damn funny, Susan!!!

My scartissue just feels hard, for a comparison - almost like it could be bone, I guess, but I know that it wasn't there before. It's not alot, but is only noticable on the outsides...maybe it's from the pocketwork?  That would make sense...

I'm gonna get on that rubbing/massage a little more vigilantly I think...didn't know CC could happen at anytime.  I assumed it was something that would occur in the 1st 3-6 months max...good to know

Anyone get any exercises for range of motion after surgery? Were you told to limit how far you reach?

So excited for ya Sue and Megan!!!! ...and yes...pictures please of the clambake!....oh yeah... and some good flattering t-shirt pics! Tongue out

And if I could change the darn title I would! lol!  Honestly, I really think we just had a screwed up view of what a properly fitted B,C,D etc REALLY looks like.  What I was thinking a B looked like was actually a properly fitted C.   Hey Sue...did you ever find out if your BFF has been fitted at Nordstroms?  I betcha she is not a DD.  From the way you describe her she probably would measure a lot larger cup.

Lago ~ My PS was very adament about not reaching my elbows above my shoulders..and not reaching my arms behind my back for six weeks.  Says it takes that long for the tissue to heal and you don't want to strain anything in that area until then.

lago, what did your PS say?  I've heard SO many variations.  Some people have NO restrictions from the get go? Surprised

I did a lot of arm exercises and stretching before each surgery (not like that helps you now!) and haven't had a problem with ROM.  Did you have problems after your BMX?

Yes I did. I was back in for PT in April/May too. He talked more about no pushing, pulling and lifting for 6 weeks but one of those "use good judgement" things.

Hi Girls, Yes I can definitely relate to all your above comments re: pressure garments ! I am about to go back for surgery in a few weeks to correct second mastectomy site, prophylactic, in order to get the droop happening, as it currently sits too high under my arm-pit !!! never the less I am sure further time will tell, Thank You for your comments and support, as it shows I am not alone.....

Good luck Kath - I hope you acheive the results you are looking for!

Lago - I was told to be sensible, all of Susan's restictions were the same for me.  I inquired on when I could start PT for my winged scapula (which is stilllll winging away Yell) and my PS had me wait 5 weeks and then I worked with a PT who specialized in LE and post-MX patients.

...speaking of the ole LE, I got measured this past week and went from a 1 (on a scale of 5) to a 3 since exchange in one arm.,  This was an arm that I had felt funny stuff, like it was swollen in my knuckles a couple months ago.  Showed my hub and a nurse friend and they agreed, knuckles puffy, it's not all the time, but I think heat-indeuced, salty food, excessive use., noticed it this past wknd, too.....well, now I wait another month for my next measurment, they said it wasn't high enough on the scale of LE (5 being when they start to treat you) to worry about (only had 1 node removed on that side) but I'm a total freak about watching for LE.  My mom is a mess of LE, her arm is like 3 times the size, 24/7 and will never get better...just don't want to wind up in her shoes...well, so far I seem to be fitting them "too" well I swear I inherit EVERYTHING from her, BC , etc....I do sometimes wonder about LE and heredity...I'm in that study I mentioned at MGH so I know I'm being watched super-closely, but you never know...

fire-dancer I do think there is some heredity issue with LE. Mom and her uncle have/had it in their legs. My BS thought because I'm thin, only have 10 nodes and no rads I wouldn't get it. I'm pretty sure I have it slightly in the 4 node side too. Some of us just have a predisposition to it.

    Hello wonderful women!

I thought I would give you an update on my flatness and the redo! My husband had some skin tags removed at my PS's office today, so I totally crashed the appointment with him. My PS loves me anyway. LOL.

So....the re-do on my tissue expanders would be ready to go today with the exception of one spot on my inner right bottom breast. It is still pretty hard. He said it has to be softer. Said I could firmly massage it but time works best. I told him I had no intention of going another several months without having this fixed. Gave him a good laugh.

So, I posted on the breast construction site for anyone that has any ideas and experience on what I can do or products I can use to make it happen more quickly.

He did "pencil" me in for August 5, but emphasized that it has to be completely soft.

BUT...GREAT NEWS! He invited me to the two days a rep is coming in. I get to have FREE botox for my forehead and Free Restylane for area between nose and mouth!  Wahoo!

He probably figure it will soften the blow when he tells me he can't do the surgery. LOL

Lago, glad everything is going well for you. I keep looking at my left arm where two nodes were removed. It seems flappier around the bottom (and I never had flabby arms) than the right side, but neither has a lot of tone, I haven't had any swelling anywhere and flew a couple of times with no problem but I wonder about LE. Are we eligible for lymphatic massage or is that a big no-no after the breast cancer?

Fluffqueen I'm no expert at LE so I don't know if massage when not needed is good or bad. Have you been to this site:  http://www.stepup-speakout.org  I would read the "what is lymphedema" and "reducing your risk" sections before you do anything. Then discuss with your doctor.

Thanks Lago.  I just read up on the site. I don't think I can blame that flappiness on LE. LOL. I did pull the info for a couple of therapists trained in the Indianapolis area and am going to contact them next week just to make sure. Plus, I think knowing how to do lymphatic massage can only help, especially is I am having surgery with drains again next month (or whenever).

If you have LE flappiness is a good thing. With LE that area would fill up with fluid and become firm. I know. I've been there.

LAGO, really? Flappy is better? That's the best news I've heard in a while!!! I worry about LE.

Rennasas when I 1st saw my LE MD I told him I wanted my Hadassah wave back (same as bingo arms. Its a joke my mom used to use about when you get middle aged and your arms flap when you wave). He didn't laugh. Really nice man but he is very serious. Last time I saw him he grabbed my arms and said they were nice and flappy. He was pleased.

LE is a build up of fluid. There is a lot of protein in that fluid. It gets very solid/thick and therefore your arm does too. Yes I get that when I get my swelling. My swelling is so subtle to most people that this is the only way they might even realize there is a problem. In general I have long thin arms so when my arm swells many don't notice.

LOL!  My son had an 8th grade science teacher years ago, who thank heavens was a fabulous teacher that won all kinds of awards and the kids adored her, because she had these huge flappy arms. she would go into her enthusiastic teaching and they would be flapping everywhere.

He failed to mention this to us and as she got going on Back to School night, I almost lost it. I couldn't even focus, I was trying so hard not to laugh. Mine are very flappy but fortunately don't hang down as far as hers go.

I was glad to have you say that flappy is good as I was starting to stress about it. It doesn't seem to be responding to exercise to tone up, but I am really not doing a lot of weight stuff. Trying to build up to things.

Both sides are flappy and I only had two lymph nodes removed, but from what I have read, if you have BMX, you are at jeopardy for LE on either side. The LE massage sounds great, not just for the arms but other issues like sinuses, etc. I am going to look into it.

Thanks for your help, and I am glad things are going well for you.  I am massaging like crazy trying to get the hard spot to soften up.  Too bad I don't have boobs now...my husband would get great delight out of helping with that effort!

I'll keep you all up to date!

    Jill
