    Carole - so thankful that the ER visit was good. After several years there, you now know you can get professional care. Hope the Eloquist works & doesn't exacerbate any other issues. But I had to laugh about your DH moving directly to the golf course !!!

    I did not get to the grocery store. Still too many things to catch up on or put back in place. And it's lovely to read in my recliner. I'm kind of enjoying opening the fridge that is empty except for water, coke, one can of V-8 and a couple of beers. Raining this afternoon & storms expected tomorrow. Edited to add - now it's thunderstorms with heavy winds.. Enough already… Shutting down.

    Oh Carole, I'm so sorry yet heartened that your DH was wise enough to seek attention. It is so stressful for the spouses to see their sweethearts unwell. Speedy recovery!

    I tried a new-to-me "sauce" of sorts for the rockfish and it worked very well. Fishing season opens tomorrow and I am hopeful DH and I can …weather/health dependent.

    Carole,

    glad your hubby took action before it got much worse. I had been on Elliquis at one time for blood clots in heart and lungs due to when I had the port for chemo. Insurance stopped paying for it and so they put me on Xarelto until the cardiologist stopped it last Fall. It’s a relatively safe med, but there still can be some side effects.

    Carole, It’s good your DH went to the ER when he did. Hope the Eliquis does it’s job.

    Minus, When it’s German week at Aldi they sell tinned herring fillets in three sauces: mango chutney, pineapple curry and tomato. I always stock up. After the week you had you deserve to relax.

    Wally, Enjoy the first day of fishing season if you get to go.

    m0mmy, It’s so annoying when prescription insurance changes its formulary. My pulmonologist tried to keep me on my inhaler but was told to try the replacement even though he knew I would have a reaction. I ended up in the ER so I got an exception. My doctor said that at least it wasn’t the ICU as had happened to other patients.

    Dinner tonight was skillet sour cream and onion chicken. It was good, probably because it has sherry in it.

    Dinner tonight was finally the Annie Chun's Yakisoba that's been sitting on my counter all week. Really pretty good.

    Maggie - I've only been to Aldi twice since there isn't one anywhere close to me. I'll have to check it out. Your chicken sounds delicious.

    Wally - looking forward to your fishing results. For me - fishing is a wonderful day even if I don't catch anything.

    Minus, same here. We were able to go but didn't catch anything. Still, just grateful to have my DH on the beach with me! It was a gorgeous 66, some clouds, light wind. Perfect for a first day and in July.

    Had leftover rockfish for early dinner before we left.

    I miss having an Aldi's.

    Wally, glad you got out for the first day of fishing. Seems like wonderful weather to out on the beach.

    We had fried fish and corn off the cob for dinner. The corn was very sweet.

    Carole, I hope your DH's clot dissolves and he's good to go. You've not said much about his jaw pain so I hope that is under control as well.

    Chicken thighs tonight. I may make it Filipino adobo. Not sure what the sides will be yet.

    Wally, I’m glad you got to go fishing. For some reason a season seems longer when you start the first day.

    The heat today was not so oppressive;. I never thought 85* would seem relatively cooler.

    Dinner tonight was angus strip steak and cauliflower.

    Carole - somehow I missed the jaw pain. That is worrisome. BTW - would you post your 'nom de plume' again? I know I have it somewhere but would like to keep an eye out for your books.

    Grocery store today - 5 days after the power return. 3 days after finally getting a phone back. It was weird looking at an empty fridge, but: a) I didn't want to fight with everyone for what was in the stores; and b) I didn't want to chance what WAS in the stores had been there through the power outage. I know my checker fairly well. My comment when checking out was "stocking up with the next batch to throw away in the next storm". She laughed but the other people in line were horrified. And I only bought 4 hamburger patties and 4 chicken breasts - besides milk & sour cream & cheese & eggs & salad …… well you can imagine. I did have a coupon for $2.00 off for 4 pints of Haagen Daz, so I did buy ice cream. Fingers crossed.

    Minus, dh's jaw pain trauma was last year. The pain specialist has dh on a med that works. We had a good doctor visit yesterday at the hospital clinic. DH had ultrasound on both legs that revealed no blood clots. He will be on Eliquist for the small clot in his lung for 3 to 6 months. Meanwhile he can continue his usual activities.

    Dinner last night was a skillet dish that turned out to be tasty. Chicken breast cut into strips and lightly browned. Carrots and kale steamed together in chicken broth. Addition of a can of white beans. Addition of chicken. We both added pepper vinegar to our portions.

    DH has been losing weight because of changes in his diet. He hasn't said much but I can observe the changes in his breakfast and lunch and in dinner portions. Good for him. His knee surgeon mentioned to him that less weight would be beneficial to his bone-on-bone knees. DH has knee surgery scheduled for October.

    Glad to hear your DH is doing well and kudos to him on his weight, Carole.

    I made brown rice and steamed broccoli to go with the Filipino Adobo chicken last night. Tonight, I'll shred the last thigh and make a stir fry with the leftover rice/broccoli, maybe toss in some mushrooms and scallion. I have a larger "baby" bok choy I can add in there too.

    Taste buds are back after Covid, so tonight was Angel hair with marinara, ciabatta garlic bread and 2 glasses of red moscato (1 for prep and 1 with dinner). Easy and delicious.

    Carole, Good news that nothing else concerning was found at your DH’s appointment and that he is taking preventive measures for a successful knee surgery.

    Wally, Your leftover Filipino Adobo chicken meal sounds like it will be delicious.

    Illimae, Glad that you are over Covid and can enjoy food and wine again. I can no longer drink (migraines) but often cook with with wine and liqueurs. Both red and white moscato are in my fridge right now.

    Dinner tonight was creamy Tuscan chicken.

    Meal was chicken breast poached in white wine and a teaspoon of vegetable "Better than Boullion". Served with Bob Evans mashed potatoes. Accompanied with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and preceded with bourbon on the rocks.

    Maggie - I'll likely have some Haagen Daz later tonight - if I can stay awake that long.

    Quiet here today. My meal was a large salad with everything added - including shoestring beets. Served with garlic bread and a nice Meritage wine. Dessert was several Danish butter cookies from an unopened tin I found lurking on a top shelf.

    Both meals sound great Minus amd Maggie. Tonight was beef nachos from a divey place DH wanted to try. Hope it doesn't keep me up.

    This week should be quiet so outside of errands, I'm hoping to cook more than I did this week.

    Reader, It’s nice to have a break from cooking occasionally.

    Wally, You never know what food combinations will be good until you try them. It’s no big deal if one experiment isn’t the best.

    I like Bok Choy with anything.

    Dinner was leftover marinated chicken breast sliced and stacked on pumpernickel bread for a sangy. Dessert (bed time snack) will either be raspberry coffee cake or Senior Rico Rice Pudding. I haven't tasted this rice pudding before and it was on sale buy one, get one free.

    Our neighbor, Mary, made a fresh strawberry pie that was very good. I had my slice for lunch yesterday.

    Dinner was chicken thighs roasted in an aluminum pan on/in the grill. Fresh green beans with new potatoes. Salad of beets and cucumber.

    Yesterday was another medical adventure. We went to a wound care specialist's office in town and received some much-appreciated help from his nurse in tending to dh's injuries on his legs. She applied bandaging, gave us information and a big bag of supplies. Today his dosage of Eliquist is halved so, hopefully, he will do better.

    Wally - one of my friends raised in the South was just talking about polenta last week. Her Mom served it as the starch with dinner with just butter & salt.

    Oh my Carole - fresh strawberry pie….. Sorry about your DH's bleeding. Hope cutting the dose in half will help.

    Just finished a plate of "appetizer" vegetables - carrots, cucumber, radishes, black olives. It's unlikely that I'll proceed to anything else.

    Carole, That strawberry pie sounds yummy. I found those special wound care dressings very effective when I was burned. They are expensive and difficult to get so it’s good your DH was given a supply. I hope the bleeding stops.

    Minus, That’s a very healthy dinner.

    Dinner tonight was spaghetti with my own meat sauce.

    Reporting on the Senor Rico rice pudding. Of course nothing is better than home made, but I won't buy this brand again. Guess I'll try Kozy Shack to have on hand for "emergencies".

    Last night was a chef salad. I searched my brain for the name and finally found it this morning by using google.

    I like polenta but haven't made it in years. It's very close to our southern grits. Maybe a coarser grind.

    I also like polenta but DH is not a fan which surprised me since he likes grits. I suppose the different types of corn used do make a difference in the taste.
