Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm from Milwaukee and I start chemo tomorrow.I'm very nervous. Can anybody tell me what to expect? Had a mastectomy in July and had a lymph node dissection with 4 positive with cancer.

hi ladies and welcome emerald0320. WisconsinGal, I sent you a PM.
Emerald, I'll bump "More Tips (and a Shopping List) for Getting Through Chemo" for you.
I'm enjoying the cooler nights, I see Orion the Hunter low in the eastern sky in the morning.
Fall is on the way! Take care everyone. ((hugs))

I am in Kenosha- you are near J-Bug then.
Welcome Emerald - where are you going for chemo?

vlnrph: There is no standing up straight yet!
I feel like right now I look like Tom Hanks from Bosom Buddies. I am overstuffed in the upper part of my chest and have wild curly chemo hair. It's not very flattering yet.

Jbug, I don't think its THAT bad! My hair is trying to curl, but not long enough to yet. We'll see. much love to all.

Hi, all! Going to Watoma tomorrow for my MIL 90th bday. Will be a long day. Well at least I don't have to drive all the way. Much love to all, have a great holiday weekend.

And, I have a question... does anyone know of a good intergrative doctor in the Milwaukee area - someone who will also look at my thyroid issues? I suspect that the thyroid and the BC are related and I would love to get some hormonal work done. I am not looking for someone who necessarily is an intergrative oncologist -
PM if it is easier.
Thank you

Peebee, (BTW, your name autocorrects to "pervert" LOL) ask your onc, he may be able to help or steer you to someone.
Everyone, please keep two families in Port Washington in your prayers one is a grandfather who died yesterday in Lake Michigan going out to get his grandson who wandered too far. The child was brought in by others but the grandfather died. The other family has a 14 year old son who went missing yesterday afternoon at the Port North Beach. He is still missing. He is a wonderful talented boy, and it doesn't look good, they resumed the search today no sign yet. He was the boy eighth grade valedictorian, and the new freshman team quaterback. Please pray for his family. Thank you.0 -
I have asked... There is nothing down here, so I thought I would put it out to the board. I hope that they find the boy, that is horrible.

hi ladies, just a quick update... I've been MIA because I had my appendix out Monday.
Sharp belly ache Sat morning, no better Sun, spiked a temp on Mon and went to Urgent Care. Had my first-ever CT scan then laparoscopic surgery. I have newfound respect for the DIEP girls!
I'll be off work for a couple of days and no exercise for three weeks, just easy walking.
Got a shower this morning which was heavenly. Take care, everyone!

Badger, I am glad you are doing ok. I bet that was scary! Like you didn't have enough on your plate. Heal well and quickly!

thanks, Monica, it wasn't bad as surgeries go. 30-minute procedure once I was knocked out.
Recovered quick and got to go home same day. DH stayed with me all day, what a trooper.
I'm still sore but that's to be expected - they poked holes in me. Back to work tomorrow. My carpooler is driving Thurs & Fri which will be a nice treat.
They did something to my left arm that left a bruise. Looks like a thumb print. Maybe from when they were 'positioning' me. I don't even want to know what rag dolls we are during surgery.
pebee, I believe there's a link between BC and thyroid issues. I had a hyperactive thyroid that was killed with radioactive iodine 20 years ago. Now I take a thyroid pill every morning and have a blood test every year to check the dosing. Good luck with your investigation.
Not going to keep track of mileage but I will walk some every day. Take care, ladies!

Hi Badger - I hope that you get better soon. I guess this is a reminder that while we may be recovering from breast cancer, other stuff can and will pop up.
Still taking names for intergrated doctors if anyone has any suggestions.

Hello all. I was excited to have my daughter home for a visit from PA. We had a nice time Sunday. By Monday, I wad red swollen and running a fever. Lost my TE again. In the hospital and totally bummed. Instead of a.pedicure girls day, I was admitted to the hospital. I should get to go home today my daughter left early this morning. Not the birthday I hoped for either.

That is so disappointing!! I wish you the best through this.

Oh Monica, I'm so sorry to hear that. Helluva birthday, huh?
Your DD will understand, though. Last Christmas, my mom spent all but one day of my vacation (in Florida) in the hospital. We were both bummed out but it was what she needed, like you. And she got better, like I hope you will soon too.
just back from follow-up appt with surgeon and all is well. I have some bruises but no pain, the incisions look good, and best of all I got the OK to peel off the dermabond (surgical adhesive) that is itching like crazy - yay! I'm on exercise restriction for another couple weeks so no yoga but gentle walking is OK so I am continuing my daily walks.
He says the cyst on my ovary will resolve itself but was willing to order an ultrasound in 30 days.
Take care ladies, looks like rain is headed our way. ((hugs)) to all

Badger, heal.
Jbug and pebee (autocorrect called you pervert, does it know something I dont? LOL) Thx for good wishes
Emerald, hope for few SEs.
I am home recovering physically, and trying to recover mentally and emotionally.
And much love to all!0 -
hi ladies, chilly yesterday, wasn't it? I turned on the heat last night. I am not one of those stalwarts who holds off as long as possible, either with heat in the fall or A/C in the spring. Supposed to be a nice weekend though.
Emerald, it could be the steroids keeping you up. They gave me dexamethasone with chemo to help prevent allergic reactions. It buzzed me up for two days and turned my face & neck beet red. Was the only time during chemo I felt like cleaning the house. Hope you got some sleep tonight and that you have few SE's.
Monica, you are in my thoughts and I hope you don't mind but I added you to my prayer list.
pebee, did you ever find the integrative doc you were seeking? I googled 'integrative medicine milwaukee wi' and several names popped up but of course IDK any of them being from the SW corner of the state.
Take care, everyone! ((hugs)) to all

Hi Badger - no, I did not find anyone. I have been googling and keeping notes. Next stop is an Angie list membership.
I hope everyone has a great weekend - it is suppose to be lovely.

Pebee -- check this out... http://www.ommanicenter.com/
My son goes to Dr Rose Kumar at the Ommani Center in Pewaukee and absolutely loves her. If you decide to go and want his name to use as a referral, PM me and I will be happy to provide you with it.

I can always use prayers, Badger!

Thank you Pinky - I will try to make an appointment. If I need a name, I will PM you. Do you see her at all for anything to do with BC?
0 -
Pebee, I do not go to Dr. Kumar, my son does. She was referred to him by a friend who is like a second mother to him -- bless her! Good luck!

Moonflower, Badger and J-bug: hope you are all having good recovery from your recent "adventures"!
Emerald, sounds like you are getting dose dense therapy (every 2 weeks?). I agree that the steroid medication is a sleep disrupter. My oncologist agreed to cut back on the number of tablets I took so be sure to ask yours about that possibility for the future. I would consider the Tylenol PM as a last resort due to the dry mouth caused by the diphenhydramine component. If you don't have pain, just take plain Benadryl and you will experience the same side effect of drowsiness.
Perhaps Pebee can look into a couple of MDs that advertise in the free monthly newspaper/magazine called 'Natural Awakenings'. I certainly do not advocate every concept in that publication but the cover art caught my eye. There is a family practitioner named Gary Lewis in Thiensville, north of Milwaukee and a John Whitcomb in Brookfield who seems to promote longevity and healthy aging. I have also heard of Rose Kumar, perhaps through a previous issue or similar source. Sorry, no personal experience to report with any of these.
ABCD had their autumn educational workshop yesterday with speakers from Aurora, ProHealth and Froedtert. They had over 100 in attendance. It's always amazing to see how many of us are around, especially with pink October starting already...

Went to see Brewers vs NY Mets today. This was my first Brewers game ever (I am a Michigan transplant.) It was a lot of fun. My husband was given suite parking and suite tickets by his workplace for doing some unique and additional projects with his team. It certainly was a nice break from the recliner! I took two extra strength Tylenol and my cane and packed two pillows in the van just in case they might be needed. It was all surprisingly bearable. I keep getting sudden boughts of nausea or severe pain, so I am very cautious about what to expect with extra activity. I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather today!

Hi J=Bug - glad to hear that you are up and out. Who won the game? And, yes, time to enjoy the weather before the bad weather kicks in.
I am going to try Dr. Kumar. I happen to be a mind-body person who wants to make sure that there is nothing else I am missing to prevent recurrance.

Jbug, I am glad you got out and enjoyed it. Gotta enjoy when you can.
Pbeeglad you came to a decision. It helps to know your oath through this.
