Life on aromasin

Susannah, good luck. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the AI for you. It certainly is for me - I feel wonderful xoxoxo
Shayne - hoping you get some answers. Yes my dr wants to keep an eye on my liver, Aromasin can cause liver inflamation apparently. I started it in July too :-)
Camillegal I have arthritis in my back so can sympathise with you. You have so many things hurting you at the moment though - sending you gentle ((((hugs))))

Thank you all so much for the encouragement! It means a lot to me.

my doc added meloxicam (anti inflammatory?) and my joint pain is livable again.

hmmm. counting down the months till I can end this lovely little PILL and it will be 14 months assuming we go on the 5 year plan. That is not confirmed as my onco told me...it all depends on the latest research and of course, my tests
but counting on it, gee I take vesicare as well, someone else did? keeps me from peeing in my jeans but yeap, dry mouth
it ( I think) has also helped me to not get all the UTIs that I had been getting from walking around with wet jeans
sorry if TMI

I have the same problem. Tried Vesicare, but got very constipated and headachy- it is another drug that is hard on the liver too. I guess they all are - sigh---
Be careful with exercising when you are on this drug. It really dehydrates you. I had a mini heat stroke from power walking in the heat a couple of weeks ago. BP dropped way down and I felt very sick to my stomach.

OK let's face it every drug we take does something else to us---so trying to figure out what is what is pretty difficult--I'm on 14 meds and all of the say dizziness, soooI guess I live in DizzyWorld.

14! I thought I was bad with 4---I want to discontinue my BP pill. My beta-blocker works on lowering BP too and I have cut it in half because of a fainting incident due to LOW BP. The doc knows I sometimes have low BP, but because it "spikes" on and off he is not comfortable taking me off of it. I just hate it. And I'm worried about fainting again and hitting my head because I'm on a blood thinner.
The other 3 have to do with my afibs. I would like to get rid of those too, but the docs say no. All these pills can't be good for you.
At least I quit the Fosamax --with the parmacist's agreement that I was doing the right thing.

My SE's:
- fatigue - exhaustion
- aching joints
- weakening muscles
- foggy brain
- sleep disturbances
- hot flashes
- stomach bloat/gas
But this drug is better than Arimidex. Still not sure if I will keep on it. I am seriously considering going off if the above is the new norm. I have been on it 6 months.
Hugs,
Kat

Hi all,
I started Aromasin yesterday, and had insomnia. Do any of you have this, and if so what do you do about it, what has helped? I really want to stay on this drug.
Tanks in advance!

Ive had insomnia since my 20s (Im 54). This didnt get better or worse with this drug. I do all the usual things......jump starting my sleep cycle works....im sure there are drugs I can take but i hate taking pills. I will sometimes take a Benedryl if I have to get sleep for some event the next day. Not exercising in the evening, cut out or limit caffeine, no tv in bed......

Hi Susannah, I've never had insomnia taking Exemestane (generic Aromasin). I take it in the morning, and then I take a Melatonin at night. All of my SEs from Exemestane have been easily managed. I would hate it if I had insomnia, however. Hope you can get it under control!

Dogs I ave 14 different pills and take over 20--the reason why I'm stating this is because it's a pain in the a$$ to try to keep trach--I hae to fill different pockets of that pill thing to make sure I get all of the, and I know sometimes I have goofed up taking double doeses of something. I take hrs. for the week taken in--my night pills are rigt next to me and my others are in a big plastic bag next to me I look like an addict. LOL
Susannah if this keeps up u might be interested in taking something to sleep thru the night--I do, but it doesnt always work for me --sometimes I'm happy to get a strait 4 hrs. of sleep when I think I need at least 6-7 rs. but who knows.

Camille: Tell me about it! I keep them in a drawer so the dogs can't get them. But then I forget to get them OUT of the drawer----
And they get pills too so their pills are in a different drawer so they don't get mine and vice versa---I'm more worried about them getting mine as their pills are only benadryl and something for stress incontinence .

Yorkiemom, how much melatonin do you take?
0 -
Susannah, I take 300 mcg, the standard dose. I've been taking it for many years to help me sleep. I got the ok from my MO to continue.

I have now been on Aromasin for 3 months. I have the usual joint pain and so on. Nothing I can't live with but..... I have now developed the worst case of heart burn which seems to go on non-stop. This has been going on for over a week now. Could this be a side effect from the Aromasin? Anyone else out there have this? Or could it be something else going on? Thanks for any replies.

JMW, do you take the Aromasin with food? My prescription bottle states in red letters to take with food.

Did anyone watch the Dr Oz show on melatonin. The reccommendation was to take as little as possible 1 to 1 1/2 mg ninety minutes before bed. i cut my 3 mg in half and it works fine. The key is to take it the ninety minutes before bedtime and start winding your activities down.
JMW are you taking any pain meds i.e. ibuprophen or tylenol? That is probably the culprit. I get heartburn when I take those at night.

Tanks yorkiemom, I will ask my mo about it.

I've been on aromasin for 3 months and have a pill for all the side effects
Ativan for insomnia
Gabapentin for night sweats
Prevacid for heart burn (this SE was the worst for me and scared the heck out of me as my worst mets are in the stomach) thanks, lobular.
2 mg Diluadid seems to help w/fatigue (go figure!) but try to use those very sparingly.
Off the ativan now as the insomnia seems to have resolved. Fortunately no joint pain.
Fun and games trying to lead a semi-normal life!0 -
Is melatonin a sleep aid?

Ive read v disturbing things about taking Melatonin on a long term basis. Please be careful with that.
I could never take that many prescription drugs just to counteract another drug. But thats just me. Its bad enough the handful of supplements i take to jump my immune system from cancer and tx. Thankfully my SEs are just this fatigue, which is enough. And increasing my exercise seems to be helping.....

Dogs, yes.
Shayne, what have you heard?
0 -
The Mayo Clinic site says for short term use only - and warns against using with hormones. There is also risk of blood thinning, mood changes, depression and seizures.......went i went to the health food store to buy it, the supplement person warned me about taking them long term....and also said not to take the full 3mg......which is what it says on any health care site you go to. I would definitely check with a doctor or pharmacist on whether it is a problem taking with whatever drugs you are on.

I know what you mean Shayne. I don't even take a multivitamin as my NP thinks if I eat healthy foods I don't need them.
I do take Vitamin B12 though since I don't eat meat.
I guess some Vitamin C shouldn't hurt though---

I find that if I don't eat after 6 P.M. and don't drink any tea either I fall asleep pretty easily. I also get up around 5 so that helps me to get sleepy by 9.
I am scared to death of getting addicted to medication - didn't even try a sleeping pill in the hospital.
I was hooked on tranquilizers years ago, but managed to wean myself off--
I am addicted to exercise though, but the doc says that is a "positive" addiction!

dogs and jogs - you sound a lot like me - I get up at 5 too.....then i try not to fall asleep during one of my tv shows
also addicted to exercise!

Dogs and Shayne--I don't blame u---about the meds and excercis tumbs up on that one. But I have to say when I was in my 50's, my cousin too we wouldn't take aspirin unless it was so necessary. now both of us are taking loads of pills-to our chargrin--she's had cancer too along with my sister so never say never cuz we did before.
