rennamr--sweetie you are totally welcome here, but this is your first and 2nd post. You've already called your doc.(MO)? Therapies i.e radiation affect other things. Costochondritis is a diagnosis by exclusion that means you test the other areas that may be related to that immediate area i.e EKG, lung...then if it is normal, it has to be Costochondral.  Physical exam of costochondral margins elicits pain while touching(palpating) that is a signal that the cartilage where it meets the rib is inflammed or other wise stressed.  Saves money if the Physical exam done first. Your doc palpates it hurts--done. To order a CT HMMM, but you used a key (phrase)word Short of Breath, that's why he did a CT. BUT and BIG BUT to many things needed to be evaluated before going to a CT. Please, You need to learn early go to your PCP first.  They have a different approach then MO's.  Was shortness of breath because you were air hungry, or b/c of pain or other cause. BIG difference.  Please, be evaluated by PCP--primary care physician.

Remember to be respectful of CT usuage. One CT equals 200 xrays.

Rennamr ---See I told u--I didn't think tho--u always end up going to u'rPCP when something is new and not in their specialty--That's why we end up with so many Drs.

Sas after all that I probably scared her away and I did not know a ct was like all those x-rays. oh my--I remember being pregnant and hearing u have that glow--hmmm didn't think there was another kind of glow.

Not scared away...not sure about comment of 1st and 2nd post, was that too much for me to post?

I had heard CT scan was = to 1,000 xrays. But how is that in comparison to 2 weeks of radiation? Or chemo? I think it's all cumulative, but either way, I'd rather NOT get those types of tests done because of the higher risk of exposure...

They did a chest xray when I went in for the breathing problems and there were 2 spots they saw and wanted to follow up. EKG was fine, did a D-dimer test for clots since I just started tamoxafin, everything was back fine (altho creatnine was elevated slightly). I did NOT want to do CT scan, but dr said he preferred it in order to determine if possible inflammation in lungs due to radiation.

Also, good to know about going to PCP first, I JUST finished with treatments and honestly, I've never been sick before, so I have seen my PCP only a couple times in the past 3-4 years, so not used to all this with multiple dr's and stuff.

Oh, FYI, the 2 spots (approx. 2 mm in size) are pulmonary nodular density, likely to be benign and they wanna do another CT scan in 3 months. I REALLY don't want to do a bunch of CT scans....

Yes.... I have an issue.  Several in fact!  Welcome "rennamr"  !  Most of us are just a little nuts, but fun!  Wink  But if I understand you correctly, You DID have a double mastectomy, and then radiation and chemo???  Wow girl!  You have been through a lot!   And you are on Tamoxifen?  Hope it works well for you!   There are at least 2 nurses on this thread, so they can help you with any questions.....

You can ask me something about gardening, or simple things like that!  Ha!

So NOW I am allergic to the "rubber" gloves!  Not just the 2-Mercaptobenzolthiazole that is in the mecication I put on Lacee!  I wear the gloves, so I won't get that "hot-spot" medication on ME, but that med is also in the rubber gloves!

Damn!  ONE of these days I will get it all figured out.  Maybe even before I go crazy....er.

Rennmar, you have been through the BC ringer. That's meant in the usuage of old wringer washing machines. A GOOD PCP should be the center of the wheel. Not that all referrals should be made from them. BUT they are the generalist. Specialist concentrate on their body system and tend to go high tech.  A dear PCP friend taught me the following" The Pcp should listen, talk, examine, talk, then offer there conclusions, then divise a plan.". I only understood his wisdom when he was no longer able to carry on.  AND AND have all reports from specialist brought back, so that the PCP knows the total Picture of what's happening with you. Hey Renamar  STFU we can deal with IT if you can. LOL

RENNAMR STFU you chose us as the first place to post. How long have you been lurking or did you just see STFU in the active list.    HELL,  I  came in with hat in hand. Your favorite saying, STFU you should fit right in.

CHevy I told you so..........I asked you to check everything around you for that chemical-----------I was ignored Tongue Out that may be the only time I EVER get to say that.  OMG that felt sssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooo good. OH Cami....jump in quick...... AND Littlegoats said as I did you were changing to many variables at one time. Course littlegoats had to translate what I said LOL. I have trouble talking layspeack @ times. To identify a problem --change only one thing--sources choose from 4-5 days. It takes the body that long to recover from an assault. Allergic response to back to baseline. CHEVY you changed a bunch at one time LOVEY. Now you must begin deducing again.------------but you did change the course of events and stated you saw almost normal skin. YAY. So, don't be discouraged, you are just becoming a better Sherlock Holmes all around:)

Rennamar D-dimers are positive under certain circumstances besides clots. Things cause d-dimers  to be irrelevant i.e recent surgery, trauma to tissue, anything that causes bleeding cuz the clotting mechanism starts..... I have to do a STFU search, nothing against you rennamar, it's this stuff used to roll of the tongue---now it's  STFU unretrievable.... so, please read wiki          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-dimer     Wink sassy

Cami, This proves your spelling is on the right track!

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c".. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f".  This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi TU understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

    Rennamr,

Welcome to the hooligan hideaway!  We often give advice, sometimes even take it.  We can be serious when the occasion calls for it, but mostly we have fun. A number of folks (can't say just women, ladies, females because Charles stops by now and then) live in the Eastern and Central time zones so they are going to bed as us west coasters are just getting cranked up.  Of course that means they are up early and beating their gums as we are still sleeping.  We've been known to keep the thoughts a-flyin' round the clock.

Sas, Glad you are going balls to the wall to get this thyroid thing done.  If your schedule holds true, we'll be having surgery the same day.  Mine's only cosmetic...your's more critical.  We're not letting you go anywhere, Miss sassypants.  You are so much more informative than Dr. Google and you say STFU!

Mostlymom, How are you doing?  Hope you have something fun planned for this weekend.  Don't want to think of you worrying about surgery on Monday-I'll worry for you, okay?

Flowers, Hope you are doing the same thing...don't wear yourself out getting things ready...

Sweet Pea, ChickD,Maryloowhoo and Blondie-  How are you doing?

Howdy, Hi and Hello to everyone else!!

I had a nice day at work.  Got off early and picked up my new glasses-now I can see both near and far without squinting.

    TTFN!

Wren - Too Funny! I started out really, REALLY trying to follow this thinking Wow. About 3-4 sentences from the bottom I realized the direction of the Euro English. Laughing my silly head off. But I do like those things where most of I think it is the vowels are removed and most people can still make good sense of it.

RennamrOregani - Sas knows from whence she speaks. I must admit that I don't see my PCP except yearly to get my HBP meds so I would have done just like you (and have done so I freely admit). PCP OK but not much relationship. He hasn't shown any coordination tendencies. Between BS, PCP, gyn, MO wish one would and the only one who has tried seems to be MO. Hope you get some answers but I agree with Sas. Costo. is left when other things are ruled out. Does anything make it better?

    Good One, Wren!

rennamr, another nickname is renn - then we would have two rens: Wren and Renn!                             When we add  ette after your name it's a term of endearment, as in Wrenette, Chevette, Cammette, Sassette, Phyllette, Vegette, Juliette, Blondette, Chickette, Flowerette - well, you get the picture!

Cami-no one re:CT exposure in the early days considered  that the exposure to the radiation of one CT was a problem i.e 1 Ct= the radiation exposure of 200 chest xrays. Those trained in radiology tried over time to define exposure. Those that care fought for standards in 2006. Why hasn't the Americam public been made aware of the risks?

MY question always is--can we do this by MRI. Not happy when it's CT is reqired. Part of a pet scan is a scout CT, and the whole thing is a scan( ct) once the tracer has be absorbed------

    Questions?????????

That's no kidding Chickers!  I think Sass is right!  My Grandma once washed my Dad's hair with bar soap, then rinsed with clorox, because it was so dirty!  Ha, ha!

Wren, I was totally IN it, with your new English, until I got about 1/2 way and thought WTF????   THEN I got it!  Wink  I'm sending it on...

Sass, you are right...!  But I never THOUGHT of looking  up the ingredients of "Sulfodene" on-line!   I SAW  2-Mercaptobenzothiazole  on the label, but I was looking up "Sulfa" drug... And it wasn't until I looked up that M word, and saw the allergic reactions, and then I "got" it!  And even THEN it said it is used in "flea" medications, (not for hot-spots) but  then I just "knew."

I knew it also said it is used in "rubber" products, so I thought like tires, shoes, etc.  BUT then yesterday my ARM was going crazy itching when I had the gloves on, cleaning Lacee, and I ran in, washed off the gloves, then my arms, and thought "DAMNIT!  IT'S ALSO THESE DAMN GLOVES!"

So I researched some more, and they use that "M" word to "vulcanize" rubber, and it alone would probably not been enough to hurt me, but with the chemical in that treatment oil, it was like an overdose.    And yes, I DID try too many things at once.  But at least I think I have it controlled now...hopefully!  I'm still taking Claritin, until the last shred of that drug has LEFT the building.

It would stand to reason now, that I must be "almost perfect?"  I mean nothing wrong!   I can hear, and my hands are  looking like "hands" again!  Shut up Cammi.....  I have to go read what you ..... oh never mind, it was about you (and me) and getting near a swimming pool.  You didn't DO it, did you?  I forget when this was supposed to happen.

Okay, NOW what can we fix?

Morning girls, slow night? I was hoping for a lot of stimulating conversations to catch up  on. I have nothing of interest to talk about, except for the team of geriatric construction workers on my roof. the youngest at 58 is dh.They have the youngeast guy on the ground? I think they want to prove to eachother that they are all still macho...wont tell anybody that dh came in yesterday and lay down on the floor in front of a fan for an hour.Men are so stupid sometimes. Then I had to hear a lecture on getting back into shape. Oh ok, will be out on that roof Monday-not...Lets put them all through a solid year of chemo and see how they do...

Good morning you happy little hooligans!

rennamr - I thought you were already renamed. re-nnam-r. Savgigi is right, we are hooligans for a good reason. That is so that none of us can emigrate to Russia. They have laws against hooliganism. So don't even THINK about it!

doats! - I have the same issue with docs. Nobody seems to be the coordinator amongst them so I choose! However, I did choose my PCP because my MO said they had a good working rapport. UNLIKE my previous PCP who was a dink and never forwarded reports and had never looked up the definition of "urgent".

wren - I was dying laughing. I had 2 years of German in high school and 2 years in college. That was perfect!

chicklet - now you can be chickabump! Not chicaboom though. Be sure and take off the wolf hat when you pour the bleach mixture over your head.

sassy - Isn't that bleach mixture what bartenders use to wipe down their bars? Maybe chicky can just go order up a pitcher of margaritas and have her head washed while she's getting plastered! OH! Plus, I love that julianna said "balls to the wall"! Even tho you don't have balls, you might nail someone else's there while telling him to STFU. You are entirely focused when you're on a mission! OHOHOH! You gave us paragraphs in your post yesterday. Thank You! My eyes got crossed and my brain quit about a third of the way through. Sorry to be such a sissy, but paragraphs help me. :)

chevy - sorry you had a M-relapse! but glad you are getting better again. BTW, I like how you and cami always tell each other to shut up BEFORE the other says anything. It doesn't stop either of you and it is such a warm gesture of love and affection. hahahahahah! Shut up!

juliaaaaaaana - What an excellent idea about everyone scheduling surgeries on the same day! If we could do that, I could keep up! Well, maybe.

cami - ROFL you re-woke up! I love that. It made me laugh, thinking of you in your clown suit napping at the top of the tower with your rifle. Then doing your nails instead!

    I love you guys!
