I thought it was my AOL browser!  Maybe it's just this site!    I really love the AOL format, and how I can save "Favorites" but Firefox is much faster.   As long as I can find you guys, I'm alright.....  Don't know what I would do if we couldn't "talk" like we do!    Wren did you say your end was slow?  So is mine....  I KNOW you did.... I saw it!

Do any of your Husbands paint?  I won't ask DH to do that again.... I mean he gets paint EVERYwhere!  Not only on the thing he is painting, but everything around it, usually ALSO needs painting, because he just goes all over the place!   Not me!  I am a master-painter.... drives me nuts to have to paint something over, because he has "helped" and painted one thing, that has caused me to paint over everything else.  He pours the paint on, then uses those little sponge paint things to move it around!  Okay, I'll stfu....  Geez!

Hi Spookieoldfart!  Glad you have finally joined the rest of us...Ha!  I mean so many of you are younger!

Mary, I keep finding more Angels around here!  I mean Fairies!  I love them too!  And that Dragonfly poem.... My Daughter sent me that once, on a little wooden plaque  ....  I'll have to hang that above my Fairy Garden.

    Okay.... See y'all tomorrow!

Illegalcammi I sent you a PM about your scan and rib question.

Esther your GD is adorable. You’re so lucky to have her. I wanted a bunch of kids but was only blessed with one – will be quite awhile before grandkids at our house!

Jackie – I love books, too, and  so excited to be able to start reading for fun again. Have picked up about 15 in the last few weeks at garage sales, here’s one I got today “Best Women’s Erotica 2012,” it cost a whole dollar! Hey Chevy wanna borrow it – I bet it has something that will get you in the mood quick!!

Phylette I’m worried about our Blondiehoney, too. Sent her a PM but haven’t heard back, yet. Her last post was on another thread  2 days ago.

    Chickie your baby is precious.

Sas, April, Flowers, Sweetpea, and Jo – hope you are feeling better.

Greetings Goats, Wren, Juliaanna, Joan and Dwilly.

Will check in later to see if anyone has heard from Blondiee. DH and I are headed to the Apple store - I used the last of my savings to buy him a Macbook Pro  for his birthday, hate to see him hunting and pecking on the iPad, and maybe I can get it away from him for use when I am on the road job hunting. I got him a One-to One orientation appointment at the Apple store.

    Be well Hoollies.

I'm another voracious reader, as was my brother.  Our parents trained us well.  Dad's older sister claimed Mom started reading to me as soon as she found out she was pregnant.

Julia what fun it would be to go through those books. We would likely pick up some tricks. At the same time might react in horror the way some things were treated LOL and giggles. The frontpiece quote is as good today as then. The quote on the cover blunt and true. I think a publisher would consider it too blunt to allow today. I had a patient that collected medical books. The things described about women were NOT nice.  But it was all fascinating putting things in prespective of history. A blessing on all women and men that changed things. Now if this period of history would move faster and get us all to a more humane time. Perhaps you can locate some things in the books that may shock and or amaze us. :)

Shells your cloud seems so soft and fluffy, can we jump on board and savor it with you:)

Bette, yes that's the most common fairy light on ebay right now . It comes in that color, cobalt(usually this color is the most expensive), yellow, clear. I've seen some others in pink , but they tend to be older. I like the clear. I'll be watching and let you know when I win one or do a buy it now. :). There is a pagoda one that would fit in the fairy garden nicely, but I'll have to get a handle on prices. Fairy lamps don't tend to show up in thrift stores to often. Mostly, I'm very good at getting decent prices. That's a part of the fun of thrifting and ebaying. THE DEAL. Plus, I've learned allot of history because of found objects. Like the fairy lamps. :)  Loved the Rose:) Send your address soon b/c I'll have it direct shipped to you that avoids double shipping charges.

Cami you are so right about the holding of a book. I'm still intimidated by the Kindle. But haven't taken the time to read the directions. That would make it allot easier. Yes being able to read opens all, glad Joey loves it.

Cami, there are lots of tests available and they each have there own value. Basically when they order a test of the abdomen that will include liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, stomach, pancreas, kidneys, upper ureters, aorta, retroperitoneal space( space behind the peritoneum),  upper small intestetine, and upper colon. To get the lower structures. a docs order has to include pelvis. That will include the lower ureters, lower sm intestine/colon, uterus, ovaries, bladder.

Ultrasound, Catscan without and with contrast, MRI for the liver w&wo contrast. I just had this. You have to be able to hold your breath for the longest period at 25 seconds. Range is 10 secs to 25 seconds. Mri can't be done when the object being looked at moves. That's why it's not used on the chest compartments. Docs will choose the test that will give the greatest detail for what they are looking at. I learned from this last MRI experience that pics can be taken in 5mm slices. My little bugger may have been there a very long time , but is unknown because the pervious machine could only take slices as small as 7mm. So, it's a very relavant question to ask what the minimum picture slice is? AS I write this the question may apply to CT scans too, but I don't know.  I have to post this and go back and find your question . Hope some of this helps:) Hugs, Not having answers sucks.

Mary going through the whole thyroid thing. The Ultrasound guided biopsy was very good. if you get that far.

Chevy, DDBF got paint all over everything in the bathroom. Paint on the new shower door and acrylic. Woodwork. That room has been out of commission since 1/7/2013. The countertop is on the dining room table. The toilet is on the pool deck b/c he got so much paint on it. It's clean now, but still sitting outside. The base cupboards are in the space in front of the bathroom/2&3rd bedrooms. Choas--hate it.

Greetings all.  Just got back from the county fair.  Went with the family.  My GD is 16 months old and loved the bunnies and the sheep.  She wasn't so sure about the pigs.  She got to pet one-the look on her face was priceless--"ooo, I'm not sure about this" look and then she help out her hand like she had something icky on it.

Sas,  Yes, this book has some gems-Breast cancer can be caused by a blow to a woman's breast.  The book was originally written in 1916 so we have to grant them some grace.  But there is a lot of common sense things-isolate sick people, sunshine helps kill "illness-causing agents", keep surroundings clean, wash the hands, etc.  There are some recipes for tonics, too.  Cough syrup-whiskey, honey and hot water!! (I always add a little lemon juice and skip adding the water)

Wishing a restful weekend for everyone.  I know it is tough on those waiting for test results, appointments for consults, recovering from treatments or anticipating them.  I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

My grandmother had her own recipe for cough syrup... Honey, lemon, whiskey and butter. Keep it warm on the stove. Take with a big tablepsoon. I was just talking about this recipe with me sister tonight.

    Veggy,

Great recipe and it sure tastes better than the commerical kind.  The commercial kind has something to soothe the throat (honey and butter), something to cut the phlegm (lemon) and something to calm the cough and/or help with sleeping (whiskey).  The natural one really doesn't have many negative side effects unless you indulge too much!

PS I'm glad to hear it isn't my computer that is slow.

Juilia sunds like a great day--and love the story of u'r GD and the pigs--teach her young..

Veggie That sounds like good stuff and years ago we all got something with booze in it--not alot but something and it sure knocked us out without coughin all nite. haha--and I remember when I'd get cramps I got homemade blackberry brandy--that was so good--I couldn't wait to get my period and I was 10. We'd be in jail giving our kids what we got. BTW who would say it's u'r fault for getting cancer---sooo stupid.

    Some stupid exfriend said that.

Grandma also would give me a (half) cup of tea and whiskey when I had my wisdom teth coming in. I'd drink it and she would pour me another and then get the cards out. Whiskey was always the prescription for any ailment.

blondie glad you posted, wish you were feeling better. Can't think of anything to help with the breathing except make sure it's humidified. If it's not a call to the oxygen company, they'll bring it right out usually. Don't need a doc order. Did they fix the other thing we talked about? Thanks for asking about me. Path report Monday morning. Are you getting Homehealth? Eating?Need someone to help trouble shoot, I'm a great phone organizer:) L&H&P's sheila

How about rubbing babies gums with whiskey.

Sore throat gargle--tastes awful. folk medicine book-- vinegar , red pepper and salt, it'd kill those bacteria real dead.

Loved the hot toddy's --whiskey, honey, lemon, tea

I remember once when I was single and I had a cold.  Was keeping the lady in the apt upstairs awake with my cough.  After the first night she complained to the manager.  The next night she knocked on my door, had two steaming mugs.  She said she made me a toddy for my cough but then thought I might not like to drink alone so she brought one for herself too!  I slept well that night.

Okay books!  I'm sure my Grandma has some part in writing that.... and my Dad was one of the guina pigs.  She would use Turpentine for any cut, scrape or sore, and then if you had a splinter or metal in your finger, she would tape a piece of bacon on it over night!  Worked evry time~

And remember those mustard plasters?  Just dry mustard, mixed with flour, and slathered on a wool piece of cloth, with a Tshirt over it.    My old neighbor did that with me too, Chabba....  She came across the alley, and had all the fixin's, and made me wear that mustard plaster, and go to bed!  Mrs. Oletsky!  Her Grandfather was Stapleton.... They named the old Denver airport after him.  (Just a little bit of meaningless trivia there...)

And Whiskey WAS used for evrything!  Mostly she just drank a snort before bed-time.  My Grandpa used it pretty randomly.  Wink  Same with the finger-nail polish remover!  He LIVED, and even said it tasted pretty good!

AND they had bacon and eggs every morning for breakfast!  Grampa's dessert was a piece of bread, with lots of sugar, and can-milk poured over it.

And so you guys found another book for me?  You know, I read that "40 shades of Gray".... Is that right?  Well, by the time you get about 1/2 way through it, you start reading another page, and think...."Oh damn, NOT again!"....  I MEAN!    I could have smacked what's her name!  There SURELY cannot be ONE woman living with the brains of a gnat, that would put up with that, and then run back for MORE!   My Daughter had bought it, and I gave it back to her, and said "Did YOU read that?"  Bad girl!  Ha, ha!

I'll get more serious next time I post..... shut up Cammi!  Hi miss Sassypants!  Gotta go check my Fairy Garden! xooxoxoxo

Ok, heres a little ot question for you girls, Went out for dinner last night with ds and fdil. We went to the resteraunt that shes having the rehersal dinner at. So we were talking and I just happened to ask her how many people were going to be at the dinner, since dh and I are paying for it. She says oh, about 45. I about chit in my pants. I say why so many? She says well, its customary to invite the out of town family to the rehersal dinner. I have no idea if this is true or not...we paid for everything when dd got married, but hers wasnt a really big deal and didnt have many out of town geusts. What do you guys think?

Oh Wow!  Our Daughter just had us all for Brunch, his family, and us, and his family paid for it.... But not anyone from out of town.     Probably about 12 of us....?  You are almost obligated now, I think!  She should have asked you first, though.

It isn't customary, like she says.... because they usually don't come into town way before the wedding, right?

Just say, "Well I'm glad your family is paying for everything else.... then!"  Just kidding...Wink  Who's paying for their honeymoon?  Kids now-adays just like to plan everything BIG!  We couldn't do it....

    From http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/rehearsal-dinner/qa/who-should-be-invited-towedding-rehearsal-dinner.aspx?MsdVisit=1

Wedding Rehearsal Dinner: Who Should Be Invited to the Rehearsal Dinner?

     Q. Who is invited to the rehearsal dinner? My fiance says family, everyone in the wedding, and all the out-of-town wedding guests. I personally don’t want to include all the out-of-towners.

    A. The rehearsal dinner guest list can include just the two of you, your immediate families, the wedding party, and the officiant and his spouse. Or, it can be a larger event, including all the out-of-town guests (or at least all those who will have already arrived in town for the wedding). It's up to you, but the reason many couples do include out-of-towners (especially when the rehearsal dinner is the night before) is so they're not left stranded in their hotel rooms. It's all about being a good hostess. However, it's your prerogative to want an intimate party (for budgetary reasons or just as a matter of opinion). If you know the out-of-towners will be fine entertaining themselves, don't worry about it. Or, ask another relative or friend to host a cocktail party for the out-of-town guests that evening. Another option is to have your rehearsal dinnertwo nights before the wedding, and hang out with your out-of-towners the night before.

(I think it was impolite and disrespectful to not check with you first - 45 is a is a big number).
