You can grate the ginger, then squeeze through a cheesecloth (or with your hands) into a mug of hot water. Or you can thinly slice the ginger, bang it with the handle of a knife, and then pour boiling water over it.

Z, DH will run half? Will he train? Yikes. That is quite an undertaking. Will require special nutrition -- not too many calories, actually. And nutrient-dense calories.

I peeled and sliced about 1/4" per cup and let it simmer for 10 min. My Walmart had frozen ginger cubes. Gasp! It's good hot or iced.

I am an official volunteer. Badge made. Uniform. Parking pass. Go in Thursday for assignment at pediatric clinic.

    Worried about Dawny.

Yes DH needs nutrient dense as he's still trying to lose 15 lbs.

Go Fia! 2 miles and weights? You da bomb.

Fia! I just read your post, missed it somehow. You made me laugh! You need to kiss that goose! Laughing.

FFS also, I am totally out of shape. Doing yoga -- can't imagine running. You are the greatest!

Glennie, You're going to strain the tea to drink it, so no need to grate. You would peel it to put in a dish, but I think for tea you can just chop it with the peel. Maybe use an inch for a couple of cups of tea. I think you may be able to find the tumeric root in Asian or Indian grocery stores.

I ran after neighbor's escape artist puppy today. Does that  count for running?  Thankfully he had his leash on so I got close enough to step on it and stop him.   Good on you, Fia for walking in the cold!

I wore myself out gardening. Wow, I do not have much strength anymore. Put out only 6 bags of mulch. That should not be so tiring.

Z:  congrats on being official volunteer.  I must look at Wal-mart for frozen ginger cubes. Meanwhile, I will see if I can peel this. It's a hand activity that I have issues with. **stupid carpal tunnel**  Neighbor told me to get ergonomic keyboard.

Yes peeling and chopping is hard. Sorry didn't think of that. I never do until I start doing it myself. Made homemade potato soup and didn't realize how much peeling and chopping was involved.

Try Wrenns suggestion of leaving the peel on. Let us know if there is a taste difference.

Peeled and chopped!!!  Tastes pretty good.

Good news:  neurosurgeon finally called back and said I could have a referral for the hand specialist,, will run by his office tomorrow and pick that up. And I have an appt with hand specialist on Monday. Yee-haw! See about getting me custom hand splints for this carpal tunnel crap.

Years ago I had a split keyboard. Loved it!'

I guess I'm stressed, tired, couldn't figure out the ginger cubes. Thought you meant like ICE cubes.

MRI & CT finished. Now chewing nails for results.

Spookie, That's just cruel! You think they could read scans sooner if the person's already totally anxious? Here's hoping they don't take the full 5 days. That's just too long to worry.

Dawny, Congrats on the good news. Big breath!

    Zills, Good news!

Fla, Geese are really mean. I would have been scared.

I need to go to the store, but all I want to do is nap. I've been tired all the time lately.

Spookie Wren is right that is just Cruel...........I will be in the bag for you

Dawny I am so relieved YEAH FOR YOU !!

Zills hope the kids are better

SC hope the arm is better

Bobo I took off my hoodie and waved it at that damn goose (yup Wren it was a freaky for a few minutes) I am sure people ( and there were a few ) thought I was pretending to be a bull fighter ............... but the hell with them as no one offered to chase the thing away ...........

Ok all ...........this tea ....Wren got me thinking so I just tried something different and it worked.............. I took the ginger and tumeric and just cut it into chunks (i did not peel it) . Then I put the chunks in the food processor and covered them with about 2 inches of water . I pulsed the mess until it looked ground . I poured that mess into a 2 quart pan filled with boiling water and boiled it for 20 minutes. Strained it using a paper coffee filter (squeezing it out good) . Tasted just the same and was alot faster.

M I don't think I responded to your question ........yes use the fresh tumeric in the tea versus taking the tumeric capsules (at least that is what my MO told me , she said the capsules were not as strong as the fresh) .

Hope I have not bored you all with this tea saga.....but it is really the only thing that helps me with the side effects of arimidex and the nausea from the lymph node cancer.

Waving to all !!! Still enjoying the peace and quiet here and not missing that wretched morning smell of HAIR cooking her fried eggs !

Fia, you always make me pee! You should volunteer at a part of the hospital in which patients are having trouble peeing. Waving your sweatshirt at the goose while people watched! I, for one, am missing Hair something awful. We're going to need a Hair story the second she gets back.

Spookie, five days is too long! We are in the bag for every single one of them. I know how you feel about the hospital.

Bird, are you going to get your blood levels checked for the tiredness? Are you doing too much?

Over the moon about your news, Dawny! Actually felt relief all day. XXXXOOOO

Checking in and so glad to see good results from Zill and Dawny, and hoping for more good news from Spookie, we are still waiting for results on dh's heart scan so I sure understand about the waiting for results. I got spoiled going to Mayo Clinic, tests in morning and results in afternoon. I like to know what I am dealing with, hate the waiting.

Waving to everyone. Check in later.

Yay Dawny!!!! SO happy to hear that :)

Fia, good for you sticking to it! I would have said.. oh it's too cold.. I'll start next week.. etc. etc. I am Queen of excuses. Glad you made it home safely without peeing yourself or being bitten by the goose :)

FFS Spookie, couldn't you have gone somewhere else? That's just too damn long to wait.. it's not right.

Z, what happens now that they are at the end of the alphabet? :)

Off to drink a shitload of water... been drinking and peeing all day in preparation for IV tomorrow.

DH is at the clinic having his arterial CT scan. He denies it, but I'm sure it hurting to walk is why he doesn't actually make plans to travel. We do walk an awful lot on vacations. I never gain weight because I'm walking so much. They said about 5 days to make a doctor's appt for results.

On a good note, my art classes start again tomorrow. This time she's teaching 2 classes with the morning class being more for beginners. I had 3-4 palettes I haven't used for years and gave them to her to use in the beginning class. That way people don't have to go out and get a lot of paint before they're sure that's what they want to do.

I am thinking about going to the doctor about being so tired. I'm definitely not doing too much. I'm barely doing anything at all. I also need a haircut but banged my head on Sat. and it's too sore to brush or comb. I use a plastic brush or my fingers to style it.

ND, How soon do you think you'll have the results?

I don't think they are at the end. They didn't go in order so maybe. I don't remember q.

Yes spookie. Walmart has crushed ginger in tiny ice trays in the freezer section by the veg.

Sorry you have to wait ND and Spookie. It sucks.

Yes Wrenn get it checked out. I wonder if there is a virus because boy is tired. Spring allergies? That reminds me the allergist didn't call back. Argh!

Mustn't be too tired. He ran 52 laps at the gym. Said he was the only one. Not sure how many miles that is. I called. It's 2.88 miles. To be young again. Bet he gets fried eggs for breakfast:) sorry Fia.

    Wahoo Dawny!

    In the bag for ldesim.

Wren: don't like it that you are so tired. Maybe some bloodwork,, see what's going on?  Wow, you must have really hit your head hard if you can't brush it. ouch.

in the bag for L's infusion,, and all the hubby's appt's,,, and hoping Spookie gets results sooner!

Thanks for all the help with the tea.  Really trying with the anti-inflammatory stuff.  Got Peridin-c today,, it is supposed to help with hot flashes.  One bottle,, we will see.

ND, you too waiting? Hope you get the results soon.

Wren, I second getting bloodwork, could just be low levels of something and an easy fix. Ouch on your head bump... those seem to take forever to go away sometimes :( That was nice of you to donate paints, enjoy your class.

Yep, I'm drinking and peeing.. a never ending cycle :) One more 20 oz for tonight to go, I go in too early to drink much in the morning.. I'll end up doing the pee pee dance on the subway. Hate that I have to work after infusion, but I also hate to waste an entire personal day.

My hot flashes have subsided suddenly after a couple of weeks of constant sweating... hopefully they'll stay away, but I doubt it.

I love ginger tea, I peel it, cut it into small chunks and throw them in an infuser and just pour boiling water in a mug and let it sit for a bit.

    Wondering if PRB is ok.

Peridin-c.   it is vit c with bioflavonoids, supposed to improve capillary strength and help with hot flashes. I read about it here on another thread,,, maybe hot flash forum,, can't remember.  I looked on Amazon,, and it had great reviews. Many people saying it worked for them. So i figured I would try one bottle. Take 2 tabs 3 times a day.  OTC,, bought it on Amazon.

L:  no fun doing the peepee dance on the subway! That's a lot to drink before bed.  YAY for hot flashes decreasing!!  Hope they stay away. Tomorrow I'll go to Asian Market on the other side of town and see if they have tumeric root.  Will experiment with teas.

One week GF today.  Can't tell anything yet. Too much gardening to see if muscles less achy.
