we really can have a canning session. You can start now by getting a supply of Mason or Kerr jars, in quart size. Wide mouth or regular, doesn't matter. They are rather pricey. Walmart, Publix should have them. They come with lids, so don't buy extras. That's for next year!!!!

One dozen for now, if you really go crazy, 2 dozen.

Good morning all... I am sorry I have been mia for so long. Life just keeps getting more insane each day and I keep waiting for the overwhelm and stuff to settle down. Both of our mothers have continued to be ill. Sailman's MD has had 6 knee surgeries since Dec 10th on her knee. It keeps getting infected and they go in and clean it out and then play wait and see. I was hoping the last time in January would take care of the infection, but it didn't. They cleaned it out again in February and a few weeks later after she went home, her knee exploded open in her sleep soaking the bed. Turns out the infection was deep rooted and basically popped like a pimple. They went back in on March 5th and removed all of the hardware and as much tissue as they could. They said it was like sewing hamburger back together. She became delusional and was that way for almost two weeks... seeing people and having prolonged conversations with them, petting the raccoon that was in her bed, etc. It was awful. They called all of the family in, including the crazy sister for another surgery on March 16th. They didn't know if she would make it through another surgery and fully expected to need to amputate. The doctor came out halfway through the surgery and said he was going to try one more thing before he took it off. He sliced part of her calf muscle and pulled it up to cover where her knee should be to "give the sutures something to hold onto. The plastic surgeon took a skin graft off her thigh on Saturday March 21 and said there was no sign or smell of infection so that was a good thing! Yesterday, we found out after they moved her to the rehab hospital that it is bleeding again. This has been the pre curser to the infection showing itself. We are crossing our fingers that it is nothing serious. They dx'd her with Serratia marcescens, an infection, that wait for it.... you get in the hospital.

My MD is finally on the road to recovery from having stints put in after a heart attack on the operating table when they fixed her shoulder.

On top of all of this, I have the worst chemo brain and am easily flustered. I have a hard time making decisions when stressed and a hard time recalling words. This new normal sux but I am trying to get it figured out and adjust. I felt guilty for not keeping up with you my sweet sisters and it just seemed like the longer I was gone, the harder it was to come back and try to catch up. I finally decided after M facebook msg'd me that I just needed to put my suspenders on to hold the big girl panties up and let you all know that you weren't forgotten and I thought of you wondering every day how everyone was. I think the depression and overwhelm will eventually get better. The fatigue and chemo brain are here to stay. I love you all and feel lmost like the prodigal daughter returning to her family. Here is a smile from me to you....

I am saddened to see that DP is gone and am sorry that I didn't know, I should have stayed in touch betterSad

(((jsj))))  So thrilled to see you!! And what a lovely smile!!   I'm so terribly sorry to hear about your MIL.  Poor Sailman must be besides himself with worry.  How awful to have this terrible HOSPITAL -ACQUIRED infection.  Glad that your MD is on the road to recovery.   You have had plenty to deal with,, and I bet you worked thru it all!  You are a badass warrior.  Please keep us posted when you can on both mothers' recoveries.

News:  I berated Blue Cross yesterday cuz they screwed up my lymphedema therapy billing.  I called one person over a week ago,, and nothing happened.  Then I "questioned the claim" on-line (that function is not always working) and got a message saying I would have to appeal it.  WTF?  So I called yesterday, got a very caring woman named Joyce, who proceeded to take action, gave me her full name and extension, and said she would get back to me. Well, while I was at yoga today,, she called back and said it was taken care of and I've got my $25 copay/visit again!   Done in 24 hours! OMG, it helps to get the right person on the phone. Thank you Joyce!

Yoga was excellent. It is my most relaxing hour of the week.  Now must make lunch, walk dog and get ready for work.

js, What a nightmare to have both Mom's sick at the same time. These hospital acquired infections are getting more frequent and more dangerous. Scary because it's out of your hands. I'm really glad you found time to post. We've been wondering how you were doing.

ND, Hoping you get good news soon.

Glennie, Can you help us find a farm with geese? We'll send Bobo and see what she thinks when faced with the real deal. See what her reaction is when the goose goes for the Princess.

Did your grandmothers boil vegetables? Mine did. The reason was mistrust of home canning. Botulism has a tendency to be fatal, especially back when medical care wasn't readily accessible. Sounds like Spookie knows what she is doing and will be a good teacher.

Art class this afternoon. Can't wait!

One of my co-workers has a place South of here. She has horses, chickens and a duck, and dogs and cats, and I don't know what else. I don't think she has a goose.  There is a big duck pond over by my hospital!  Those ducks really expect you to feed them. Not sure if they are aggressive though.

Was talking to neighbor about the happenings for the weekend. The guy working next door says he is bringing his kids to cut back the rest of the bushes by the pond to open up the space, and removed the downed trees, etc. Can't wait to see this happen. It's a jungle back there,, except for what I've cleaned up. So now I must get a move on and have lunch and walk Ava before work. Back later.

Our princess had seizure activity last night, her speech is slurred, and we picked her up early from camp. I'm with her now. She was too dizzy to walk to the shower. She is trying to smile so I will not worry. So I wouldn't want her to be chased by a goose today to see how I would like it.

Good news Spookie! so glad to hear that!! and JS how nice to hear from you again! You have been through so much, sending big hugs!

OMG, I laughed out loud ( but no peeing my pants, just wont do that even for you gals) reading Fia's report of the goose chase, cant wait to read it to my hubby!! Agreed, those birds can be nasty and they are big, When I was a kid but aunt and uncle raised turkeys and those suckers would chase us and yes I would cry, you get hit with a wing and it hurts damnit!! They would chase us into the house, hated them. Cute dog pics

Bobo, please dont leave your pickles out for 4 days.. that is a no-no! And you do not need food poisoning on top of everything else. I dont do much canning of pickles anymore, but do a ton of refrigerator pickles, sweet, dill and beet, they keep for months in the fridge.

Still no results for DH, can you believe this crap, I made a call to the office today, they said well it isnt quite a week, I responded... well in my world there is not 2 Fridays in a week and I want results!!! she said she would have them call... well nothing yet! Grrrr. I swear I am walking to Canada and staying there!!

Oh Bobo, I hope everything is ok with the princess, please let us know if there is anything we can do... seizures are so scary.

JSJ! So good to see you.. I'm so sorry you've had all those problems, the story of MIL is just awful, I hope the infection hasn't returned, that poor woman. I love love love your spiky hair!! It really suits you! I was a way from here a bit last summer and your description of how you felt returning, is exactly how I felt! Glad to hear MD is going well, another scary situation.. sheesh! It's so good to hear from you :)

Wren, we'll leave the princess out of it, but I would get a chuckle and a half to see Bobo contend with a goose :)

Andrea, loving the doggie pics :)

Fia, I'm sorry.. but I am laughing, of course I have no idea how I'd react in the situation, and you're gonna cuss me out, but I kinda feel bad for the poor bird who was sent away!

Dawny, laughed out loud at that picture!!! Thank you for sticking up for me.. Bobo always tries to pin things on me!! :)

ND, omg that is so ridiculous.. I just don't get what takes so frigging long... it's good you called.. like the saying goes.. the squeaky wheel....

Glennie, I'm glad you got somebody that was helpful.. a full name and phone number , that is rare, but awesome! Keep that little tidbit of info for the future! Thanks Joyce!! Glad you're enjoying yoga :)

Ducks can be aggressive as well. My grandfather used to take me to feed the ducks when I was little and they get very demanding. There were geese there too. My father made the mistake of picking up a baby goose and boy did mama b1tch him out!! Kept chasing him even after he put it down.

Pouring rain and foggy here.. but no snow!

Bobo, Sorry about Princess. Hope she is feeling better now and it will just be a blip on the radar.

ND, Not getting results sucks. DH has an appt on Fri to get his. It's at 8:30 in the morning, so it will be interesting to see how long it will take us to get ready to go that early. Our normal wake up time in retirement is about 7:40. We could sleep later but Squeakers starts tossing things off the dresser to wake us up.

Oh Bobo, so sorry to hear the Princess has had more activity. I can imagine how worried you are, give her a hug from me and have one for yourself too!

Bobo, I had no idea that all GV wasn't Vegan or GF, they aren't things I specifically look for, but I am sure I have had a version that was marked Vegan on the container. My main reason for taking it, is for the pro biotics and spirulina.

Fia, you're a legend, I love your stories! Dexter would commiserate with you over the BIG bird story, those shitful Black Swans hiss and chase him too. I can't stand them. I know they look nice and ldesim likes them better than the White ones, but boy can they be nasty.

nd, walking to Canada too. I am so sorry your Husband hasn't had any results yet, what are they thinking? That's just wrong, don't they realise how important it is to get results in a timely fashion?

Glennie, you're welcome! Colin is so impressed with your interpretation, he showed me your latest configuration! I love the stool for the mouse! He's so happy to help you!

Yay to you, when you get the right person on the phone, it's gold! Bec was telling me she got a commendation at work, for helping a guy who is in London, he needed a certificate in a hurry and she searched and found what he needed and got it to him really quickly, so he could get back into the country. He sent a glowing report about her service.

Wren, my Mother, was the Mother, of all boiled vegetables and germ phobic. She could boil the heck out of anything till it was a pale example of what it should be, then she would toss the water with all the nutrients away. She would have a panic attack, when I ate raw vegetables, she always thought that if they weren't cooked they would give you a pain in the stomach and be "germy". Bearing in mind this was a woman who came from a cold climate where the germs could barely survive the freezing weather. I always preferred my veg raw.

Andrea, gorgeous dog pic and I am so pleased to hear they are getting on so well. I can imagine the teeny puppy stage would be annoying to Diva, but it seems she is protective, so I think it will work out really well.

I didn't go to Tai Chi this morning. I woke with a bit of Asthma, they have been burning off in the mountains around us this past week and the smoke irritates my chest. It is so cold and the wind is blowing a gale this morning, so I opted out, because I couldn't face the cold, on the Ferry and I didn't want to be coughing through the class. I have to go into town to pick up Colin's watch from the jeweler, so I will check out some Opp Shops in town and have lunch somewhere.

Have a good evening girls, waving to anyone I have forgotten...M x

Yes but knowing what you know about bobo. Don't you think the jar and lid were sterile? FFS she steam cleans her house and has HW pushing magic wash cloths for a role model. How could the jar be less than pristine?

But no we don't want you sick. I can't imagine only making one jar at a time. Can we skype spookies class?

    PRB:  you are so funny!!

M:  If i have time tomorrow, I'm going to buy another tray table so that the mouse doesn't sit on the stool!  And I've starting talking to my boss about cutting back to 32 hours/week.  Which is scary!  Wondering if I can do the pay cut. She said I could probably try it temporarily in May and see how it goes.   YAY for Becs getting a commendation!!

Hoping for Princess update.  Will check back later.

Is anybody else tickled that Z said FFS? :)

Glennie, even if you do it for part of the year it would be nice.. do you do a 40 hour week now?

I would love to work.. strike that.. I would love to be wealthy and not have to work, but since I do.. I would love to be able to work 10 hour days but only have to work 4 days a week. I think that would be a nice balance.

yes, I do 40 hours /week now. I'm really a morning person too, so it's exhausting to work until midnight. Can't change to days as everyone wants days,, and I'd never be able to schedule all my medical appt's.  Evenings are better for that.

Z said FFS!     **giggles**  Not that I don't say that all the damn time,,,,, I cannot be around children as F is every other word out of my mouth these days.

What is all this degenerative disc disease? Our age? Our drugs? My DEXA said they didn't count L3 due to DDD. I looked back and 2 years ago they didn't count L2 or L3 due to DDD. I think we were not meant to stand upright. Wonder if chimps have degenerative discs.

I want to Skype the Spookie class!

Glennie, I used to opt for the 12 hour shift, 9am to 9pm, to get all my hours done, in 3 days, worked for me, I was a lot younger, but I was still knackered, after the 3rd day.

Jsj! Great to see you, that photo is awesome, made me smile too. Xx. Sorry about your mums, you've had a lot going on. Next time I need to speed read through the details of the infections, though, I am such a spooky la la! Lol

Andrea, that is great news! Yay for DDD! Love the photo of Teddy and Diva out for a walk x

L, yes I love that Z said FFS too! Lol. Did you notice that Spookie said " yes we really CAN have a canning session".

Bobo, how is the princess now? Does it take her long to get over? Is she on regular medicine, and does she have something else to take, when she has activity?

Oh, Fia, are you peeking around corners to see if there are any big birds loitering? I would be! Lol

M, thanks for the heads on the Aussie get together, hopefully we can meet up then!

ND, come on already where are DH's results?! Geez.
