These hurricanes this year, are just awful. Anyone in Milton's path please be careful, take whatever precautions you can to stay safe.
On my recent Santa Fe trip, my friend and I took the Sky Train, which has open air cars for sunset and stars viewing - leaves and returns to the Santa Fe depot. The sky there is truly gorgeous. Hoping for clear calm skies for us all.

Wow, SFcakes! That sunset is beautiful! I'd never heard of anything like the open air cars you described before. What a great idea for a warm and dry locale. Must have been wonderful to make that trip - so glad for you.

Thinking of everyone impacted by these ghastly weather events and hope all are safe.

Mel, I am thinking about Florida too and hoping for little damage and no casualties. I am also hungry. The meal prep does help because it gives me some direction about making stuff instead of giving up and eating peanut butter. Probably make up some beefless ground and lentils with a precooked egg chopped in with croutons, season with taco seasoning and add a second portion of rice and heat up in my pan, add some nacho chips and sour cream. I will have to see.

Hey ladies
We’re inland from Tampa Bay. Very scary predictions. We’ve been preparing and now waiting.
I’ll check in soon.Take care all

Hi all. We have been preparing for two days now for Milton. At the moment it looks like we will be on the "dirty" side, so lots of rain, probably tropical storm winds, tornado risk, but the worst is the flooding that is coming. Last estimate 8-10 inches, higher in some pockets. DH came up with a wonderful idea, instead of standing in line for hours to get sand bags, he bought top soil and bagged it into proper bags meant to restrict the flooding. He also learned this from a Lowe's employee. Take one of those swimming pool foam (round) things and slit it down the length you need. Slide along the bottom of the garage door and that should do the job. Let's see what happens. Kids coming because they live in RV. They were suppose to be here tonight. Foolin around too much and now we'll be anxious till they arrive Wednesday, probably afternoon. Been through a lot of hurricanes, but this one really frightens me. We are staying, so here's hoping our home and other folks lives and homes will be safe.
In pockets for all and Sondraf I sure hope you feel better quickly and it's not pneumonitis (sp?).

thinking of you all in Milton’s path. I hope all hangs tough! Sending good vibes

Hoping all remain safe during this storm, also sending love and light, good vibes and prayers, wishing all well with everything, as best as it is. Hang in there . Much ❤️ to all

Irish and Tanya, in your pockets to be safe and without damage from Milton, thank you both for checking in.
Garbage day today, how can it have been a week but here we are. Two much lighter bags of garbage thanks to the new litter. Will get that together, lots of recyclables thanks to Amazon and their penchant for packaging small things on their own in a big cardboard box like my new thermometer, oh well. I am also going to space out trips to the place to put out as well. Every 20 or 30 minutes starting from about 5.00pm. Easier for me to The spinner on a recently purchased portable washer and spin dryer is not sounding good. I did spin out some stuff, not dripping either so put in dryer. I will not worry if stuff is not dripping. Might pull out a rack when nothing is coming from amazon or having to get stuff near the door, let them dry a bit then put in dryer.
I do feel the cold retreating so no meds taken today will wait until tonight.
I am frustrated, very tired of the food I eat, I do try variety but overall, just feel too bored and too picky to try a bunch of stuff. Eggs are one of those things. Think I need to precook and stick it in chopper with beans and croutons, throw the hashbrowns and peppers in and add olives and pepperoni. If the eggs have the same texture they will not be as much of a bother. I am getting rid of tortillas and debating a return of english muffins, that would give me an option to finish peanut butter. I will see.
I hope anyone in the path of Milton is safe, in pockets for that and everyone else sending support and love. In my own pocket to stop whining about food and just figure out what I want from it, whether it is more ready made stuff or what, more rice or whatever. I can figure it out, just need the patience to do it.

Still in the hospital due to miscommunication but I'll be going home tomorrow. I think they forget about me down this end of the ward because I just need pain relief/dressings but when I need it, I NEED it. Oh well. Didn't have pneumonitis!
While I was here my onc took the opportunity to early CT scan my hip and she came by tonight to give me the news that it is dead on stable. Not a bit of microgrowth or whatever, Enhertu finally stopped this thing in its tracks after 18 months. I'm cautiously happy, mostly because I just want to get home to my own bed and have been having issues getting radiotherapy sessions complete due to pain management, but I'm sure I'll feel a lot happier this weekend once I have time to reflect. I guess it had been so long without good news I just didn't expect it. Hoping for shrinkage in the hip with the next three rounds but I'll take stopping it at the very least.
Onc is taking this time post radiotherapy to give me a two week treatment holiday which I will certainly appreciate!

Ladies in Florida, stay safe. I've been watching live Ft Myers tv stations on YouTube and this is an incredible storm and I fear its going to absolutely erase what's left of the Old Florida charm of some of those barrier islands and around Sarasota. I saw some photos from AMI post Helen, this looks like it could take a direct hit completely which makes me so sad. We've spent many happy vacations there as family for the last 15 years or so, it holds a special place in our hearts.

Sondra F great new! I know you’ll be so happy to get home.
Lots of rain and wind but Milton didnt reach land yet. A lot of damage waterfront.
Since we have electricity I baked cookies and bread with grandkids. Trying to distract them from what’s going on outside.
Saved the stray cats 5 kitties. We had the stray (we call her cali) on the lanai but she left and didn’t return.
I’ll wait a few days and see if the mom makes it back.Take care all.
Tanya

Sondraf Great news on stable, glad Enhertu is working for you! Now you just have to get home to your own comfy safe haven.
Irish , Tanya and all other in the path of Milton, I am holding everyone close in my prayers. Hugs.

Tanya, thank you for checking in with us, hope power holds up for you as well and in pocket for being safe from Milton.
I am officially a weakling tonight, I took out a bag of recycle and bag of garbage. Got another bag to go. Both triple bagged so I can roll down the stairs out back then pick up. I wanted all recycle gone but just don't have the energy. Have to use a cane for stairs so rolling or tossing down is the way to go. Still a bunch of boxes in front for recycle but decided that if I can manage to breakdown a box a day, I would be that much further ahead for recycle pick up next week. I can chill about those.

Hi all and thank you for good wishes for us Floridians. Lots of rain and wind, but so far only flickering of electricity. I believe that Milton made landfall a bit further south then predicted, so we do not have as severe of weather as first thought. I better hold that thought till we get thru the night. Lots of flooding in Palm Coast, even though we have swales, retention ponds and man-made canals for drainage. We are all so tired. It takes days to get ready for a storm, lots of sand bagging and moving plants and furniture on the lanai. The dogs are really stressed and don't want to go outside. Who can blame them. We made them at least take a trip outdoors for a quick piddle. Our kids arrived just as the first band hit us. They moved out recently and bought an RV to live in. Hmm, RV's and hurricanes just don't go together well. My heart aches for those families hit with Miltons forces, including all of those tornadoes. This storm will go down in the history books for ages.
Mara, do you think Siri or Alexa could help with meal planning?? I ask Alexa about cooking time and temp. and for receipes. It's good to use up left over sauces and get creative (although I think you do a great job on your meals).
Sondraf, OMG way to go with your ENHERTU doing it's job and helping to heal that stubborn hip. I'm so happy you rec'd such good news. Now get home so you can sleep. lol
In pockets for all your needs and please stay safe.
Laurel

thinking of all you ladies dealing with this beast of a storm. Hoping it was more bark than bite. Love to all

Irish, I follow a lot of meal prep things but I like the options you suggested. I am going to start from the ground up. I have a lot of tortilla chips so maybe, not tossing the tortillas as nothing wrong with them put in a pan with butter, heat through and simply add a cooked egg, make traditional hashbrowns in the breville or one will fit in a mini griddle. I also follow a channel on youtube showing how to make different things with the dash mini baking stuff. I have the grill as well.
Other than that, laundry is always on the agenda, TV is playing ads that make make money which is good. Probably will try the tortilla idea eith an egg, spread whatever on it. Eat through my pantry is the mantra now.
I did wind up putting a tortilla in frying pan with butter, some spots are well done but most of it is fine. Then took handfuls of frozen peppers, beefless ground and diced onions and added an egg, all went in the magic bullet to be pulverized and thrown into the pan, letting it cool down, might top with sour cream and attempt a fold. Tonight, I am looking to have a piece of fish over rice and want to see what dry seasoning may be in my pantry. In future, planning to cook up foods in the mini griddles since they would heat up quickly. Edited to add that other than the overcooked tortilla in places, it was a very good meal and enjoyable to eat due to the melted bit of butter.
I hope all the Floridians here are safe from Milton with little or no damage and that any power outages are back soon, been thinking about it a lot. Mel, hugging you as well just because I can virtually. In pockets for all who need me and my own as well. No shopping for a bit as older DB injured a finger, had to get tendons operated on and it got infected. Picture of his hand is swollen and looks very painful. I am glad SIL, sons and daughter would all help him. He is very independent and stoic so this has to be hard for him. Oh well, he will get the finger fixed, kick physios ass and take time with recovery. I can kick butt if he can.

I have been looking around the site and been thinking about Carol, sunshine 99 and whether there has been an update anywhere about her? I hate when a person just disappears after meaning so much to us. I know what ever happened, in hospice I am sure she was surrounded by love with family and friends and comfortable. Guess I just wanted to hear if she was still with us.
6 -
Mara I think about Carol everytime I log-on. BTW your not a weakling at all! You always find a way to get everything done yourself even if it's rolling the trashbags down the steps. It sounds to me like you do just fine!! Hope your DB has a speedy recovery.
Thinking of our Florida friends here, hoping everyone fared ok.

Laurel Glad to read you and everyone came through the storm Ok. It is exhausting all the prep and the anxiety, and I would have been out of my mind waiting for the kids to roll up in the RV. It’s been awhile since Hurricane Sandy hit up here in the NY NJ area, and it was exhausting and Scary. We were lucky as I live up on a hill, but most of Hoboken was under water and out of power for a week.
Tanya love that you were able to bake and help the grandkids, and take care of the stray kitties! 🐈⬛ hope the mama made it back. It’s a lot to weather a storm and care for the little ones. Glad you are safe.
My Florida friends in Sarasota made it to Virginia, she is still waiting on word about her son who chose to stay. She said she can’t live her kids life for him, but it’s a hard road to walk non the less.Mara I think my favorite part of cooking is reading the recipes, it’s as if I can taste the food one ingredient at a time. Choosing, then seeing the colors on the counter as I pick the veggies, and chopping . It’s an active meditation for me lol.. since I mostly work from home, it’s easy to move from the office to the kitchen . Today was filled with meetings, so DH had leftover roasted root veggies with brown rice and steamed broccoli. I made avocado toast with a salad of raw vegies broccoli, cauliflower red cabbage with artichoke hearts and olives. I love reading about your choices and prep. YouTube is great! I use it mostly for my excersise in the mornings.
Sondraf awesome news on the Enhertu ! So happy for you.4 -
Thanks ladies for all the support.
We lost electricity. The rain wind and news was super anxiety producing. We’ll be cleaning and fixing for awhile. Gratefully no one injured. Neighbors helped a lot. Thankful that the young men didn’t allow my husband on the roof and removed big parts of tree. We have some fencing to replace.
Mama came back! I’ll deal with all that cat stuff Monday.
mara I think about sunshine99 too.
rischaller the cookies were good but the bread was just ok. Everything was eaten though!Exhausted.

Tanya so good to hear from you. So glad you’re ok and your family is as well. Looked so scary in the news. Isn’t there another storm on its tail? I just hope not! Hugs to all in Florida. Wish all well

Hi ya'll. Tanya sounds like you were hit harder then us. My sweet maple tree toppled over. SIL and DH hooked up a chain to SIL's truck and propped it up with sturdy boards. They had to top it first to make it manageable. We had lots of flooding in neighborhood but nothing in the house. The birds were waiting on me to clean out the feeder and get fresh seed. The crow wasn't as patient. Geez, give me a chance will you before crackling non-stop, you mouthy bird. Seriously I was trying to get some sleep as we were up most of the night. Kids RV was not damaged. DGD bought all of her favorite toys here for safe keeping. It looked like they were moving back in. I think I said NOOOOOOOOOO and they heard me as I tried to keep from saying it out loud. LOL
Has anyone caught the news today about the premature aging of cancer patients. Studies showed, yada yada. Gee and they had to pay for studies when all they had to do was ask us. They concluded it came from treatment, not just chemo, but also radiation. Should have added Fulvestrant and other medications used to treat the side effects from cancer treatment in the studies, too.
Missing Sunshine, too. She was an inspirational sweetheart. I, too hope she is with her family and is granted more time to enjoy their love. Sometimes when I read posts from years ago (while looking for a certain subject), I become attached to the poster. The words of wisdom, the fight for life, the clinical trials and life stories sadden me that those voices are now silenced.
In pockets for all your needs.

Hi all.
Reading along.
I went for my yearly eye exam and told I need cataract surgery. The doctor said it was probably due to my cancer treatments. I just turned 54 years old. My eye doctor mentioned I had cataracts last year, but they have grown since and are ready to take off. Good news, I have severe eyesight and have worn glasses since age 7 and my eye doctor said that the prescription lens they implant with cataract surgery will help my vision. I have an appointment with the eye surgeon mid Nov, with surgery maybe before Christmas. But… I have scans the week before Thanksgiving, so I need to make sure cancer is stable and not needing a change in treatment. Cancer better not get in the way of the cataract surgery!!!
Love the pics you all post. And thinking of those living in the South and Southeast with all the horrid weather. We are experiencing wonderful weather- sunny, dry, temps in the 70's during the day and upper 40's at night. Good Fall weather.
Hugs to all in Mel's Living Room.

Irish and Tanya, I am glad you are both safe from the storm without catastrophic damage as well and grateful for that. Tanya, glad Mama cat came back as well. No wonder you are exhausted.
Rlschaller, your meals sounded healthy and delicious for sure and I am glad you enjoyed them.
I am feeling lazy, not for any reason just because. Will go out when it is warmer later. I do not even have laundry or dishes to do, may just take blankets and hand wash in the washer section by section for the large ones, regular wash for smaller ones, need to dust and vacuum, do the cat box etc. Will also be gradually clearing out recycle area and disposing of packaging I got from the washer in my bedroom closet, I hate the styrofoam stuff. I left it in there but would like to clear it out. No set schedule for that. Light vacuum and dust as well. May run the robot vac. I do like the different options that I have.
Edit, breakfast was simple, two eggs, two hashbrowns. Cooked both in my Dash mini griddles. Sped up cooking times, just had to microwave 40 seconds to warm up the hashbrowns on the inside, still impressed. Going to try veggies in the cookers as well and must not forget my little Dash grill as well. Good little tools to have.
Freezer space got bigger, found cool whip bought months ago, cleaned the container, will debate any reuse as a food container, if not, can be recycled. I have a few of my sour cream containers that I use for left overs as well. Not too sure what I want to do for a meal, still mulling over in my mind. Possibly make some eggs and hashbrowns, put them on a less well done tortilla. I think the tortilla works better with the melted butter but needs to be flipped much sooner and plated to make it foldable. Later, pull out black beans, chop up in chopper and do a mexican inspired meal. Add taco seasoning to the beefless ground/black bean mix, use water to send the seasoning through, cheez whiz. May top with tortilla chips.
I hope everyone has a good day, in pockets for those picking up after Milton and glad everyone is safe. In pockets for everyone else here as well.

Tanya and Irish, so glad you are safe from Milton. I am sure there is a lot of clean-up and other issues, but thankful for your safety and Tanya that the cat came back!
Sondraf, how are you feeling now that you are home? Yay on your stable scans.
Candy, I had cataract surgery two years ago for the same reason. My surgeon said there was no connection between that surgery and cancer so he didn't hesitate to do the surgery although of course he checked in with my oncologist. I am thankful I had it done.
I think I had the flu yesterday—either that or a bad reaction to antibiotics from my UTI. Anyways, I already got the flu shot this year so who knows what I had. My DGD had the flu last week so perhaps I got it from her since I had to care for her one night. I feel somewhat better today although not completely. I am going to tough it out so we can take my DH out tonight for his birthday. Saturday is our last warm day of the season before temperatures begin to plummet for winter. We are prepared.
Stay safe everyone.

Just got back from a little getaway with best friends. Met them up in Traverse City, MI and had 2 days of wine tasting in the beautiful Leelanau Peninsula. Weather was perfect - trees changing color, sun shining all day - with northern lights at night. Great food and friendship. Did this last year and God willing, it will be an annual October trip. Almost felt guilty with our perfect weather while Florida got pounded. We visited 10 wineries. Came home with a bunch of bottles and some fabulous ciders. So very blessed to have these friends in our lives.
Meanwhile I read of all the struggles that keep happening to our family in this living room. I hate this disease and what it does to us. I want it to stop! If only we could make that happen😢9 -
I am glad that you enjoyed your trip @goldensrbest and have such a good relationship with your friends. I agree, cancer stinks.
@intolight Hope you had a good time tonight with DH and hope you are also feeling better as well.
Nothing for me today, enjoyed the eggs and hashbrowns, did not have anything but peanut butter. I got my Amazon delivery of some reese treats but only got the reeses pieces and one package of peanut butter cups, paid for 16. Pretty quick and easy to request reshipment at 0 cost, coming on Sunday.

Hi, everyone. I’m sorry I haven’t been on in a while, but I heard from Carol (Sunshine 99) the other day on the 8th and saw you were concerned. Here is what she said. Hugs to you all.
“I’m starting to feel better being off all the chemo drugs. Hospice is visiting twice a week and our home has been full of family and friends. We feel so loved!
I’ve been able to eat more which is helping me get stronger.
I don’t know how long this will last but we’re grateful for each day.
I’m trying to work on a couple of blog posts but they’re slow going.”
