61, but I had abnormal mammograms for 4 years prior due to what they believed were "just lots of cysts".

I didn't learn until afterwards (no one had ever bothered to tell me) that mammos were less useful and that I was at higher risk due to very dense breasts.

On the other hand I was lucky because after a needle biopsy in May 2008 (which found atypia) I delayed having the recommended excisional biopsy (due to complacency -both mom and sis had "indolent" ER+++ BC and docs thought it was genetic) and when I followed up in early Dec 2008 docs found a "new" spot that wasn't there in May and turned out to be a rapidly growing HER2+ BC.

50---I'd had a lump that I found and had gone to dr. 2 yrs prior....was told it was "nothing I needed to worry about".  So I hadn't worried about it....little did I know that I should have been. Was told that "only if it changed" would we become concerned. I checked it daily, IT NEVER CHANGED! My mammograms had always been inconclusive due to thick fibrous dense breast tissue. This time I demanded a digital mammo...good thing I did!

    (I'm a caregiver)

My mom was 42 when originally diagnosed stage I...57 for bone mets.  I am 28 and the radiologist "strongly advised" me not to undergo a mammogram (and subsequently talked me out of it) until I was at least 35.  I noticed reading these posts that that age is sometimes too late.  Can anyone offer advice regarding a mammogram at my age?  Should I be pushing for an MRI instead?  Since my mom was premenapausal, it seems that my sister and I should not wait until we're 40 (when our insurance companies will pay for it!).

    46 ..

what is it with all these young women?  My sister was diagnosed at 35.  Is it a good sign we are picking it up earlier or is it a bad sign that it is "getting" us earlier.

    big hugs

    60 at dx, 61 now.

No palpable lump because of location of tumor. (1.8 cm)

Previous excisional biopsy same breast, 10 years ago.  B9.  Never told if it was atypia.Didn't know to ask.

All previous yearly mammos were clear.

    40 - stage III

    43 - mets to skeleton

Wow! It is still amazing how many young women are diagnosed. And I thought 40 was young . . . well . . . it still is.

47 and premenopausal.  I found my tumor and had a negative mammo  less than a year earlier (mammos weren't as good 19 years ago). 6 mos of chemo as I was high risk of recurrence as ER-PR- (no HER2 at that time).

Stage IV from the beginning with mets in the mediastinal nodes.  No family history and never missed a regular checkup with my gyn.  Such a strange disease and we are ALL too young for this!!

I truly feel sick to my stomach when reading ALL of your ages.  It is so unbelievable that you are all so young.  Something is terribly wrong here - what the hell is being missed here by the medical community, the FDA, NHI, etc., etc.

aGE 62 - Had mammos since I was 40 - never even a call back.  2007 mammo fine - missed 2008 - and 2009 - guess what I got? (Missed 2008 as daughter was hospitalized.)

61, Stage IV from day one, now 63.

I agree with what several others have said- horrid enough at my age, but my heart breaks for all you younger gals dealing with this monster. But since risk advances tremendously with age, why is it the vast majority here are in their 40's or younger, and so few of us here are "senior citizens"?
