Rosemary.. my medium arrived today... I just showered and put it on.. It was definitely more difficult to pull on, but once on, feels good...i wish i knew what was an appropriate amount of compression. I have now tried the XL, L and M and can say the XL was super comfy, which means probably too big, the L is also comfy, but felt I needed to be more compressed... so the medium gives me that. I now know for sure I could not be a small.. i guess thats when you know you are done downsizing.

Arnica update....took again this afternoon and did ok. Stomach was more empty this morning. Had been told to take the homeopathic stuff away from food or drink but maybe that is not so necessary. I will keep taking it. Sorry if I caused any worries.

13 1/2 hrs? Whoa. Healing wishes to those in NOLA.

Hi Betsy and Louis13 and Ladies,

I started tamoxifan this week. And lupron injections. So I went into immediate menopause (my poor husband!). I have been feeling kind of foggy and weird, and I noticed if I took the tamox in the morning without food I would get very nauseous, so now I take it right before I eat lunch and that works. Interestingly, I had just started my period when they gave me these two drugs, and I have now had it 7 days. I feel like it will go on forever--this is menopause? Crap!

Betsy  interesting, my doc said nothing about aspirin, but that makes sense given the side effects of clots. I'm going to ask and may start that too since I fly so often.

Amy & Anne: Thinking of you both today.  Hope it's quick and easy.  Looking forward to hearing from you afterwards.

Michelle - so sorry for the unexpected long hospital stay, but extremely grateful you went with your gut feeling and got right back in there.

Adrienne: 13 1/2 hours!  WhoooWeeee girl!!!  Rest up and recovery quick!

Trying not to let myself panic -- I'm fine with the upcoming surgery. It's just all the stuff that needs to be done to leave my kids for a week and return home a week before Christmas!   Yikes!!

Amy (Katesmom) & Semper: how are you doing?  Ready?

Laura...how come you still in a marena?? didnt you have your stage 2 couple of months back??

and thanks for the info on sizing Betsy, suspect we are same size, just diff configurations. i guess for me coming out of the flex support the medium has got to be at least more comfortable.

i realisedy yesterday my diep breast has shrunk back down again quite a lot :^(  it was not looking too diff from natural, tolerable, livable with... but just the last day or so has shrunk back. dont know if that is swelling going down or the 50% of fat not taking....have others found breasts shrink back a week after stage 2?

Louis13 - Even though my Stage 2 was 7 1/2 weeks ago every time I take off the Marena I get fluid build-up (swelling) in my stomach. I stopped wearing it at 6 weeks for about a week (and was SO happy) and I went to my physical therapist during that time and she said I needed to wear more compression to keep that fluid off. Not 24/7 but when I'm most active so I'm back to wearing it in the daytime only. And after wearing it 24/7 it is SO much more manageable (at least I can sleep comfortably). I'm waiting for the morning when I wake up and don't have a swollen stomach though!.

hmmm, hoping lipo doesnt mean a lifetime of compression garments lol !!!wondering if this may be something we all have to go thru tho?  get weaned off the compression, go thru the initial bloat after the compression and then let body settle??? seems to me that always going to be some bloat and fluid return when we come out of compression?? but wearing by day sounds workable, especially if marena is a lot more comfortable...thanks for the reply Laura

Hey ladies :) Does anyone have suggestions on bras after DIEP? Dr. S was generous so I'm in the D range and I hate wire. Sadly I'm still wearing the beige one from the center because it's so comfy. Although not super sexy or supportive :)

Dragonfly1976: Try the Wacoal Awareness wirefree.  Or its cheaper cousin, the Bali Double Support  :)

Ericka - I really like the Warner's that do not have underwire. And I just treated myself a couple months ago to one of Victoria's Secret bras that does not have underwire (there are very few there that do not and I had a coupon!). Both brands have great lift and support. I got the Warner's at Kohls or JCPenney - both of which tend to have frequent sales. But at JCPenney, they might have a bra fitter there. And VS definitely has a fitter. Have fun!!!

Thanks ladies!!! I have tried VS but they rarely fit and don't last too long for the price. Not in my experience but I will definitely check out the other brands :) Kind of tired of the surgical bra look :) lol ... Hope everyone is doing good!

Victoria - after my oophorectomy I had some bleeding too. The Dr said it was the uturine lining sloughing itself off. It should not be too heavy and should go away soon. Good luck and hope it's not too bad for you!

I talked to Ashley, from Dr. Massey's office and have a tentative date of April 10.  Dr. Sullivan is not available that week.  If Dr. D can't do it then it will move up to a couple of weeks later.  How do people get groceries at the Hope Lodge?  Do they take a cab?  Are the Homewood Suites near a groceries store?  After I pin down lodging I will need to ask what to pack for after surgery.  I will hold off on that one.  I guess Nordy and I have the same questions?

So far so good. Dr.d came to see me...I have met them all now. He said everything looked good. So I am praying I can leave Tuesday....which will make it two weeks in Nola. I got the suite by pure luck. They had me right by the nurses station the day I had my emergency surgery so they could check it every 45-60 min. Then for some reason everything in the room stopped working. The guys kept coming in to try to fix the call light with no luck. They switched my bed 3 or 4 times and still no luck. Finally they gave up and put me here as now this place is booked solid!

I haven't seen anyone today so no news on Daley or the Fairway girls. If I hear I will pass along.

Cherrie: Don't worry about grocery shopping.  The folks at the Hope Lodge have a van and transport folks over to the store.  They have a great set up for keeping your food items secure.

Michelle, I'm glad things are looking good now.  Tuesday will be here before you know it.

I want to check out one of the wireless bras from Soma Intimates when I'm ready.  I went to a medical supply bra fitter after stage 1 to get me through to stage 2.  My insurance pays a little bit for 2 bras per year.  I'll take what I can!

I got excellent news today: No Evidence of Disease!  I had my first onc follow up this week.  My tumor markers went down to normal range (it had gone up near the end of chemo).  Yay!  And my 2 freckles that were biopsied were benign.  :D

My onc started me on tamoxifen 2 weeks after my last chemo infusion.  I guess I'm OK on it.  Chemo started me on the hot flashes anyway.  So far I'm still in chemopause; will know in June-ish if I'm in menopause.  I'm not sure if it's a good thing to skip the whole perimenopause or not.  I seem to be doing OK with mood.

I've had a crazy week but I'm thankful I've had the energy for it.  I have lots to do, but I'll just do what I can before I leave Tues morning.  I hardly need to run around this weekend so I can get home stuff and packing done.  I've been dealing with a bit of a cold and I hope it runs it's course so I don't have to deal with it at surgery time.

    I'm getting excited!!

Wow, what a day. Almost didn't have my surgery.

Marga called me the night before to chat, since I wasn't able to make it in for a pre-op. She'd been studying my pics for two weeks. I have a big divot on one side where the fat necrosis was removed in March. I have concavity in the upper poles from the rib resection (now she does them musch lower.)

She wants to fix all this. I have been pretty okay with all this. She was set to "fix" by means of a couple baby flaps/SIEA. Low bikini incision. Dr. S was to assist, but had a family emergency.

I was floored, expecting just nips and lipo and fat grafting. The area is too extensive for fat grafting.

I can't get my head around another surgery with drains and a low belly scar right now. So, rather than make that decision, I went ahead with nips and a scar revision. She insists I'll be back for the other. (She's probably right.) What stuns me is that she is so sincere about wanting to make this a perfect outcome. "Okay" just isn't good enough for her. (My DH teared up, he was so touched by her sincere concern.)

Sooo, rather than hang out here till next Thursday, I went ahead with nips. And there was really not enough to lipo since the grafting would not really help. Which means I got to come back to the hotel after surgery!

So, I'm going to give some thought to what she wants to do. I'll be back here in NOLA for a fun trip in about 6 weeks. She would make a special trip for me if I want to do surgery while here. Too bad I can't use The Center (insurance.)

God, I love that women. She is such a friend, so much more than my surgeon. I know many of you feel the same way about Drs. D & S. Amzing, truly giving and caring people who are skilled beyond words and want us to look fabulous.

Anne, that is lovely. I think Dr. Marga has a much more personal relationship with her pts. I met her as she was the Doc on call in SCSH the Memorial day wkend I had my stage 1. So I wasn't even her pt and she was super nice to me and DH, lovely, caring. And she remembered us both 3 weeks later when we were sitting in the waiting area! She's something.

It is nice you have time to decide if you want to do any more. I think you'll know what feels right to you. :) Thanks for sharing!

    Cider, congrats on the NED!

Michelle, glad everything remains okay!!! Yay!

Hi all!  Just checking in before we head out in search of a bite to eat!  We arrived in NOLA about an hour ago, and are at the Hampton near the Convention Center for the weekend, then heading to the Bienville House til surgery on Wednesday.  This Hampton is in an old warehouse and it is decorated to the hilt - trees, pointsettias, reindeer - it's lovely!  Anyway, have to run, will go back and read everyone's posts later, but just wanted to say that we are at the hospital and Center for pre-op on Monday morning, and back to the Center Tuesday afternoon for tattoos.  If anyone is around and wants a meet up, or if anyone is still in St. Charles and wants a visitor, pm me to exchange numbers. We will also be around the hospital area tomorrow and Sunday too as we are doing a house tour in the Garden District - 7 homes, interiors - decorated for the holidays!  (That's my kind of thing, husband is along for the ride . . .)

I am having a hyst at the same time as second stage. I already had an ooph in Feb but I'm just gonna do the rest with secod stage so I can do straight estrogen.

A crowd of us there next week! I would love to meet any of you. I am not going to be there very long. Go from airport to pre op on Wednesday then staying at Bienville House that night. Then hospital 1 or 2? Not sure but prob two. Then Ritz Carlton til the 19th. Go to post op and then straight to the airpot. It's my birthday on the 17th. I am fine with that now but as anesthesia and drugs and menopause hit, may be less fine once it's here! I need to find a gluten free bakery so I can eat least have cake!
