JO, you probably shouldn't sleep on your SNB side. The surgeon can't do anything for you. You may be developing LE! Be careful about "cramping" the node side of your chest. My LE is bad right now and I don't know if it's carrying parcels or the cold....Frown

barbe1958 - Don't want to sound stupid but what is LE?

I have been sleeping on my SNB side ever since surgery 4 months ago.  Never any problem until recently - could be the cold snap we are having.  Don't know, we have had some cold weather and no problems in the past.

I have always been a left side sleeper - could go half way on the back.

Lol that Meece picture posted reminded me of today at my family christmas. But I dont smoke or drink and Im not prego.  But they did snap a photo of my hubby grabing a hand full.  Plus we were joking with him to grab one of my sissys boob then one of my other sissys to compare sizes for my, lol.  Im sure some are thinking Im crazy, but thats ok.  We have always been fighters with whatever we have come up against and Im not letting this cancer take my sense of humer.  It can have my boobs, but thats it.   I hope everyone had a fun Christmas today.  Ours was a blast.

phew - Here we use alot of abbreviations.  There is a thread that explains them.  Most I have figured out along the way.  I could look it up myself - duh!

jo1958, LE means lymphedema.  It is fluid build-up in your arm (or trunk/chest) caused by the surgical severing of the lymphatic vessels and the nodes that are removed.  You will get pain and pressure from the fluid retention.  Women getting mastectomies, or lots of nodes removed are usually advised to wear a compression sleeve, etc.  Generally, the less nodes you have out, the less chance for LE to develop but, as always, there can be exceptions to that.

Merry Christmas Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm going to rate today a whopping 9 out of 10.  My Xmas meal was heaven...it featured mainly Greek style foods:  lamb chops, roasted potatoes, spinach pie, green beans, tomato & olive salad, tzatsiki (the cucumber/yogurt stuff,) and melomakaroun (that's a honey/walnut dessert.)  All the gifting went pretty well, but my day lost a point because to my horror, my own husband got me a Snuggie!   While they might have their merits, that is so not me. He should know!

Meece. ROFLOLASLAR (ROFLOL and snorting like a reindeer) at your pic.  Lookin' good!

elimar - Thanks.  I just looked  it up.  Don't feel fluid build up.  Feels like I have a blunt trauma without the bruising.   BC sure is the gift that keeps on giving - would rather pass on this one.

A SNUGGIE! Oh my?  What does one say when they get one of those?  That's almost as bad as getting a toaster for your wedding anniversary.  Let him down gently - I'm sure he means well.

So, I like the new pic, but have no idea what that phrase is or what language it is in.  Translations welcome, if anyone knows.  If the phrase turns out to be something filthy, I'll leave it up a few more days!

                             Merry Christmas

Call me weird, but I like the idea of the snuggie, would take to chemo to keep me warm.  My hubby bought me one last year and I still use it all the time including at chemo.

Elimar - Horror of Horrors! I got a Snuggie, too! From my dumb little brother AND it's a re-gifting of a re-gifting! I'm thinking about re-gifting it again, or maybe I'll save it until next year and give it BACK to him!

Well, if we're on a B/C thread and the big horror of the day is getting a blanket with arms, things aren't too bad in our worlds right now, right?  Winkety wink, HnS76Wink

Msroulette .. you did not cheat ... you are very fortunate ... I am grateful for my cancer, as I have to have a positive attitude and accept what ever is sent my way, it could have been way worse ... I escaped Radiation and Chemotherapy and NOW because I have my Naturopathic Oncologist I can bypass my five year sentence on Tamoxifen ... It is almost funny how so many survivors I know treat me almost like I cheated ... I had my surgery Nov 30th bilateral mastectomy and I am in the process of reconstruction ... tumour had grown so the implants were not possible at surgery ... had to get the tissue expanders, a shocker when I woke up .. had the best surgeons and they knew what to do ...  Keep being here for yourself and for the positive energy that we all need ... I am so glad that you got 'got cheated' ... Have a wonderful Christmas!

Laughing still at that tree - I think I know them!!  Abbreviations - I hope you can find the thread with all the answers, but if not, please feel free to send me a PM (private message) if your embarrassed to ask in here - you shouldn't be, ever, but I know some are - and I'll fill you in!!  Took me months to learn them all, and 5+ yrs out, I still find myself now and then wondering about a new one!  I had a wonderful day with my kids, but am now on pins and needles because my family's big gathering (58 of us, just immediate family) is tomorrow and snow is predicted and I'm manic scared to drive/travel in snow.  One of those forecasts where 10 diff scenarios as to timing, so if anyone has a Hail Mary left over and wanted to throw this way for a not urgent request, I'd be grateful!  Love and hugs kids.

elimar - If I had a choice between BC and a snuggie - guess which one I would choose?  That should be a no brainer

Buds, it's late and I may be repeating myself, but if you haven't yet clicked on the link at top or bottom of page about "how has bco helped", it's a cool video and ... ahem ... I'm one of the women in there :)  A highlight of my life to be sure that I was included in that video and something that makes me smile whenever I see the promo.  Hugs and love to all.

LOL, Elimar! Fortunately for me (or sometimes, unfortunately) I have a short-term memory. It was totally awful at the time! Now, I think it just might be a good way to annoy my son - so maybe I'll keep it. It's red with the UGA logo on it, and he goes to Georgia Tech (a little friendly in-state rivalry), so I think I could be totally annoying jumping around in it when we score a TD.

Elimar, do you think the writing is Russian?  I can't be for sure, but I think I will translae as follows:

"Thanks to all of you who have been here with us this past year!  You have given such laughter and support!  May your Christmas day be full of wonderful memories and the coming year bring blessings to you and yours."

I am going to say that it is nothing dirty, nothing to worry about, Eli~!

LE (Lymphodema) can start off as just what feels like a bruised area on your skin but nothing is there. I have truncal LE (chest) and if I run my hand lightly over my chest or back there are areas that hurt. Swelling isn't the only indicator. I hope it's not that, but I couldn't leave you hanging yesterday!

Jo, phew-LE is lymphedema, SNB is sentinel node biopsy, DD is darling daughter, and I'm pretty sure GS is grandson.

In nursing/medicine we use a lot of abbreviations too-LE is lower extremity (general medicine), left ear (ENT), left eye (optometry), leucocyte esterase (laboratory)
DD is depressive disorder (psychiatry), day of delivery (obstetrics), diaper dermatitis (pediatrics), differential diagnosis (general medicine), drug dependence (general medicine and behavioral medicine)
GS is gall stone (surgery, gastroenterology), generalized seizure (neurology), general surgery (surgical), gleason's score (oncology-prostate cancer), gram stain (infection control/laboratory)
    Sometimes I get just a little confused. . .

Jo-early LE does not feel like fluid build up. Early LE feels like heaviness, soreness, tiredness or pain of the affected area. If LE is picked up and the massage therapy started at that time the fluid build up can be avoided or minimized. It's really important to get a referral to a Lymphedema specialist NOW, before the fluid build up starts. Once it starts it cannot be reversed, only controlled, with daily massage and the use of wraps and sleeves and the like, used every day forever. Please get a referral NOW!

Maureen & Jo-I'd actually like to have a snuggie myself! I have a wonderfully comfy rocker recliner that keeps my back warm, but my front, especially my arms and feet, get chilly when I'm sitting and reading or crocheting.

3jays-I did the same thing with the pocketed bras and prosthesis the day after I got home from recon surgery! Something about boxing up and stashing away such things feels very satisfying, doesn't it! Sorry about the family drama, Yeah for the new lap top!

We are now officially saying goodby to the merriest of Christmas' and are now on the road to the rest of our life, heading further south to FL.

Here's a picture of our Christmas eve-eve -- the day of our arrival in Augusta, GA.

    A four generation gathering.

My parents. Mr & Mrs. Faithie, our two daughters & their spouses and the 3 grandchildren that belong to the parents in the lower left hand corner:

My BIL got a picture yesterday of the crowd above plus their family, (my sister & their kids, too.) It will probably be a while before I get to see that one -- on his camera.

We really did have a delightful time together. Now saying prayers that everyone gets home safely, as there's snow on everyone's route.

    xx00xx00xx00xx

Does anyone make New Year's resolutions?? Maybe we could hold one another accountability.
