Joni, that was absolutely your Mom saying hi :) I've experienced similar things too, and I truly don't go in for that type thing generally, but I've had it happen to me, and I know many women in particular who relate stories along those lines. I love it, I really do.

Oh Joni that is your momma.  How beautiful that was to see her wathcing over you like that.

Can I request a small pocket party tomorrow?  I have to have my mammo and an MRI, and I am very  nervous about getting the IV for the MRI.  In fact just typing of it made my skin turn flush.  My veins in my usable arm arm all but gone, and last MRI it took four techs and 6 sticks to get the needle into an appropriate vein.  The test results WILL come back clear, I will think positive on that, just sick about the IV.

You have my sympathy Meece.  My left arm has always been worthless for IVs  and blood draws, so I, clever girl that I am develop le in my right arm. Cry The techs struggle to get something going on the left while casting longing glances at the right with all it's "great" veins.  Maybe it will be easier to discourage them now that I have my sleeve.  I can just hide those veins they'd like to use.

I am fortunate that I have never experienced LE, and I guess that's surprising with how many nodes they took.  But I am not going to tempt fate.  I will keep my left arm LE free if I can.

Good plan.  My doctors are surprised that I'm having trouble given how few nodes they took.  It's just such a sneaky syndrome.

Meece, I feel your pain. My good arm is shot(hehehe) due to my years of blood donating. If they are talented they can draw from my mid  lower arm or my hand. Last time I had an MRI they had to get a nurse from PICU to come down and stick me cause 3 different people couldn't do it. Don't be afraid to ask for a "specialist"!

DID SOME ONE SAY POCKET PARTY!!????!!!CoolCoolCoolCool

    Meece,

Thought you might need something to distract you while they are sticking you with needles!!

Remember to breathe tho, that's what I forgot to do last time, so now the nurses have to remind me every time!!!

Seems like there was someone that was synced up with my mammo check-ups in the past.  Can't remember if it has always been you, Meece.  I'll hope all goes well for you on Monday, if you will do the same for me the next day. Could they go for a leg vein?

I have mammo only this Tues., no MRI, no hunt for veins, so mine should be a walk in the park, unless they squish me too hard, too many times.  I try to be as poseable as I can so they can get good images the first time around.  However, it seems to happen without fail that there's always one of those "fold in the armpit" re-dos.  Come on!  The techs do dozens of flabby armpit women a day...is it really so hard to pose my pit properly?

    Monime

"..balmy to be worried about glucose of around 100..."

Yes, and that might be true if you were doing this for diabetes, but you and I know that you're not ( wink wink)

Meece, I'll be in your pocket tomorrow....I hate IV's too! That was the worst part of my MX! Make sure you are well hydrated before you have to stop the fluid intake. And I agree with Claire.....ask for a specialist up front!

Eli, hope your mammo goes well on Tues and you get a gentle tech!

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Meece, not sure if you already know...but hand veins can be used too. I'm in your pocket hon, and this is my contribution considering it's a Monday

Meece, I just had an MRI. I warn them BEFORE they start jabbing that my veins like to duck and roll. It only took 2 attempts this way and they ended up on the back of my wrist. When I warn them, they usually get a paediatric needle, but can't do that for an MRI as the pressure of the dye is too much for a small needle. You probably have juicy virgin veins on the back of your wrist too. Suggest them and leave your elbow for blood draw. I'm with you today!

Yes, I have been trying to hydrate since yesterday.  My MRI appointment is at 11:30 but I told the scheduler that I was a hard stick so could they get a nurse to start it, so he told me to come in much earlier so they can get a hospital nurse come over to start the IV.  It most likely will be a long morning. I always warn that I have rolling veins as well.  I hate that there is always some smart guy who thinks they know betetr than me but won't admit they failed as they go "hunting" around for the veins.  The only usable veins left are in my wrist and hand and those are waning.  I also have one of those hot packs you can recharge and I place it where they decide to try, I am sure my veins constrict out of the panic of what's to come. Breathe, that's one I don't think I've tried.  I will try to remember that this morning.

Thanks for the distraction, cmbear.  I picture us lining up like little ants around that Cheeto.

Eli~, we do seem to be on the same schedule, including our colonoscopies last year.  I used to go for my mammos in my birthday month so it was easy to remember, then I had an issue, so I had to go after the Summer, so I made it during Pinktober for some years.  Since another issue, I have been going whenever my Dr. requests, and since I see her on the 13th, I planned this early enough to discuss the results.

Get ready, girls, we're leaving in about an hour.

Best of luck with the hospital nurse, Meece.  How often does your doc do the MRI on you?  I have not had one now for three years.  I was thinking of asking for it close to my five year mammo, just to really have a look in there.  Kind of afraid it could show a false positive, but mammo gave me a false negative on my actual lump, so I don't feel 100% safe with just a clean digital mammo.  (This is my dense-breasted-ness talking.)

Had a major Cheetos meltdown today.  I have been craving them all day.  Was going to head to wal-mart and get some and realized one of our volunteers accidently took my car keys home with her.  got the keys back and decided I really did need the cheetos after the stress of not being able to find my keys.  Awe now life is good and my fingers are orange.

    (Wading thru' the Cheetos)...

O.K., now where is Meece and how clear was that mammo?   Meece, do you get same day results on mammo, but have to wait for MRI results?

Love the topper.  I parasailed several times at a company picnic when I looked more like the gal in the picture than what I do now!  It was sooooooooooooooooooo much fun. So was the keg I spent a lot of time with that day!  Ahhhhh memories!

Got to the imaging center an hour and 45 minutes before my first scan (the MRI).  I brought a hot pack and kept it on the back of my hand, had hydrated, and warned them of my rolling and shy veins.  The tech said she worked with another woman who ALWAYS got it on the first try.  So I warned her as well, and what do you know...she got it painlessly on the first try!

I finished the MRI and waited only a few minutes for the Mammo, and I was out of there 23 mnutes before my first appointment time!  That never happens.  LA traffic was horrible and we got home around 8:15 after visiting Dad in the hospital for awhile.

I have MRIs every year, but I think the last bx sucked out all the calcifications, so this could be my last for awhile.  I have to wait for results on both.
