Went to Zumba, will go to Pound. It's a beautiful day here so I think I'll nab the puppies and go for a walk in a park this afternoon.

Forty-five minutes of strength training at the gym this morning. Between the knee surgery this spring and the move this summer, I haven’t been able to work out consistently for a while. Feels good to be getting back in the swing of things

Hi All. Push mowed for over an hour and then walked/ran at the park. I was one sweaty mess! Now we are under a severe thunderstorm watch and glad I did this earlier in the day.

I ran 2.5 miles today, and thanks Heidi for reminding me about the 10k challenge you're taking on. I forgot! What's the app you're using?

DD goes back to college tomorrow. I'll miss her.

Falconer, the app is couch to 10K by Zen Labs. I just checked the option to start at Week 9 if one has already done couch to 5K. It looks tough but we shall see how far it takes me. DD is taking a year off before starting uni so is on a job hunt.

Ruth, great illustration for lyrics from Oklahoma,”......the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye” You made my day! Now I can’t get the song out of my head, and that’s OK. It will be a wonderful day.

Cardio circuit at the gym today - elliptical, treadmill, and bike. Also added that tough stair stepper to the circuit, but was only able to manage 5 minutes on it befor my legs were exhausted. My goal is to eventually conquer that evil machine!

Yep, I have an ear worm too now - another song from that great musical. Ohhhhhh-OK-lahoma! Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain.

Natsfan, I forgot to say that one of the camp anthems is to the tune of John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads", because as they hike back to camp they sing, Take me home, Mink Farm Road. Back there in your mountains! If I ever make it back down there, I'll let you know!

Ruth - Love the picture - you're all color coordinated!

Not going to get my walk in on Wednesdays - its a very small, 80 students, and the staff all eat lunch together - it was fun today. The principal is so fun....there is only about 6 or 7 staff. So I will walk as soon as I get home from work and again after dinner.

Dept of Health called DH yesterday to ask him all these questions about his big "D" - turns out he has camphlobactor. And this is after the hospital told him stool sample was normal, but yet they reported it to the dept of health. Poor guy is still dealing with it after close to 2 weeks. He has lost almost 10# and he doesn't have the weight to loose. His pcp says sometimes it does take a long time to fully get over it.

DD#1 flew home today. It was so nice to have her here. The girls had fun together. DD#1 and SIL will be back in a month, by DD#2 will be gone already. DD#1 will be married 9 years on Friday and this is the first time she has been in Denver alone - the girls have had time together in Toronto, but it was nice to have them here together.

    Sweet dreams

Natsfan-congratulations on being settled in. Great to hear you are doing well.

Karen- enjoy that family time. So rare and special!

Falconer- how was the yoga retreat?

The last few weeks of summer have flown by! Once we returned from our boat trip I got busy setting up my classroom and getting back to my exercise routine. I have been doing Zumba and water fitness classes and even enjoyed walking on the couple of non-humid days we had at the beginning of this week. Today we moved DD2 back from her year of Americorps in New Hampshire. Lifting and carrying was the exercise of the day.

Last week I had an uneventful oncology checkup and the dr said I am finished with my aromasin. 7 years was enough. I can’t wait to see if some of those side effects disappear!

I have a colonoscopy on Friday so tomorrow I begin clear liquid diet. Fun, fun!School starts on Monday.

Ginger, lucky gal to be done with Aromasin! Congrats on finishing the treatment. Kripalu was lovely on a late summer Monday. I took two yoga classes and went to a workshop called The Grace of Surrender- perfect for usteachers who are returning to work and letting go of summer's freedom. The grounds are beautiful there and I walked in between classes. A walk takes you from one meditation garden to another so it's really very nice. And I didn't mention the delicious healthy food! Each meal is amazing. So, if you're ever looking to vacation in the Berkshires and want something like that, it's really special.

Karen, I love that you get to go to such a fun school on Wednesdays- some schools do develop such a great vibe! Sorry to hear about the DHs illness- hoping he gets relief soon.

Heidi- thanks for the app info.

I went to yoga last night in Woodstock- poolside- and then sat outside on the deck there and drank a glass of wine and so I guess I broke even.

Sounds like a fun retreat, Falconer.

I remember running through the corn rows of my grandpas farm. In those days it wasnt planted as close.

I did my usual walk last Saturday around the lake but Sunday I was feeling so tired and lazy. I think I know why now. I have a cold coming on. So this week I have done three walks at lunch-25 to 30 minutes and that is it. Trying to catch up to my 150 minutes.

Heidi, I am keeping your pharmaceutical company stock in business. I love me some Lindt. It is proven to help the heart. Alas, it didnt seem to do anything for breast cancer.

Back from a few days in the DC area visiting with family. Like you Karen, it is rare to get all the kids together at once, and this was one of those times. DS#2 flew in from London to meet his new Nephew, and my DD and DS#1 live in the DC area. So wonderful to be around them when they are together, to see the interactions that I so miss. We had a wonderful visit, went to Renwick Museum and saw an excellent burning man exhibit, now the boys want to go to burning man! Went to Springfield Manor which is a winery/distillery/brewery known for their lavender flavored gin, yummy. Had nice walks in the National Arboretum and Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Did the usual eat and drink too much at every turn, but had a wonderful time being with them all. Of course, one of the best parts for me was getting to see my little grandson. He is a very big boy, not quite 4 months, and is full of big smiles for anyone wanting to put in a little effort. My DH is a bit of a grandbaby hog, but the little guy makes him so happy, and that in turn makes me happy. I hate living so far away from him, but already have my next visit planned for October.

Tidying up a bit, DH and the kids went swimming and won't come back till the evening. Tidying up, sorting baby clothes, took 5 big (Ikea-big) bags to donate, town errands, clothes washing (washing mashine down in the basement), watering the garden for more than an hour. Now maybe some weeding when the sun goes lower.

Is this enough exercise? I'm really wondering, not just posing a rhetorical question... I wonder how many steps a day like this would be... Do you have something to measure your daily steps, does it help a bit? As a motivation, to keep track or whatever?

I have a fitbit and I LOVE it. Definitely it is motivational to me (some of us are in fitbit group where we can track ourselves with others.....although nobody can keep up with Vargadoll!).

I went to Pound this morning and will, for sure, get enough steps the next several days as we have two puppies at our house. DS is getting new windows & siding....the installing of which will go a lot better without two barking dogs in the mix!

What a cute baby, Pat! The yoga retreat sounds wonderful, Falconer. Yea to everyone else!

It is the first day of school here. I sort of miss all the excitement and fun and organized chaos (and sort of don't Smile).

Falconer - I've hummed Country Roads myself a few times around these mountain roads. Definitely let me know if you're coming to the area!

Karen - I'd never heard of camphylobactor before so I looked it up. Sounds like it's an awful ordeal. Hope your DH is up and on the mend soon.

Pat - I love Springfield Manor! If you'd gone a few more miles up US 15 you'd have been right near us. I'm not a gin drinker so I haven't had any of the lavender gin, but they do make a nice sipping rum. Did you notice the zebra in the pasture across US15 from the Manor? No idea why that horse farm has a zebra, but it does. We always look for it when we're on that road. Cute grand baby - no wonder you visit every chance you get!

Strength training circuit at the fitness center today. This is a pic of the entrance - since the center is located on a closed military base the gates are quite fancy. I always feel like there should be some of those royal trumpeters with the long horns with banners announcing my arrival to work out!

That does look like a castle gate, Mary.

Pat- such a precious angel. I am so jealous.

Jaboo I use a phone app called Argus and it measures steps or miles, or you can turn it on to track your activities like walking, biking, yoga, yes housework, etc. It also does food, water, heart rate and things like that if you like to track that. Personally I mostly track my exercise minutes to ensure I get my minimum 150 minutes.

I went for another walk at lunch and am up to 141 minutes so far this week so I am making up for my lost Sunday.

Jaboo, it doesn't sound like you were sitting much so I would count that as a good day. I love my Fitbit, too, although the novelty has faded a bit. I no longer use the heart rate monitor much (not available in all models). But it still motivates me to move.

Pat, very jealous too of the grandbaby. Nats, maybe you'll run into Meghan. Ruth, love the corny WWW.

    Ok, gotta feed the Fitbit.

I had a blast dancing at my friend's fundraiser. The band that played there included another classmate and friend. They brought almost everyone on the dance floor when they played Aretha Franklin's "Respect"

Worked out today and then walked to Dunkin for an iced tea afterwards. Since being off treatment, I have lost 3lbs. Have a goal of losing at least 10-20 by my birthday in November

Jaboo, I have a fitbit too that I love. If for nothing else, you can see if you are getting enough steps and active minutes, and where in the day you are getting them. Mine reminds me by vibrating to get up and move if I haven' done 250 steps in an hour. Plus it doubles as a watch! I have the plain Alta, which does not have the heart rate monitor, it's pretty slim and you can buy different bands for it.

Nats, I did not see the zebra! But then again, I wasn't looking for it. We had a nice trip there, but the trip home included a cranky baby (and in turn, a stressed mother, and in turn, stressed passengers). Love your new fitness center gates!

Off to my biannual onc visit this afternoon - coming up on 7 years of AI, hoping he says I can be done!

Cardio circuit today, including 5 minutes on the evil stair stepper. Made it all 5 days this week! We generally don't hit the gym on weekends so the non-retired folks can get a chance to work out. When I was working I always thought retired folks should try to get their errands and gym time done during the day and free things up for working folk evenings and weekends. So now that I'm retired it's only fair to respect my own pet peeve!

It was raining like crazy this morning, so DH & the puppies napped while I read the paper, did the crossword puzzle, and some ab work. We've gone on two walks since the rain stopped. I'm pretty sure they sleep all day when they're home alone; so they probably feel like they're at Doggie Boot Camp!

Happy Friday :) DD#1 left Wednesday morning. Today is DD#1 and SIL's 9th wedding anniversary.

Made it through the first week with kiddos. Two schools, the admin is great. The other school where I'm at 2 days/week is a royal pain. At least the team I work with are nice.

DH is finally starting to feel human again. Yesterday was the first day in 2 weeks that he ate "normal" food. He lost 10# in the past 2 weeks, 10# that he needs to put back on. I don't remember him every being this sick for this long. Its good to have him back!!

Hot weather is back but I love the cool August mornings.....makes for a great walk before work.

    Have a great week-end.

Karen- I hope your husband is on the road to recovery. Sounds like a rough couple of weeks.

Falconer- I am looking forward to being off that drug.

Pat-I hope you had a good onccheckup.

Got the colonoscopy today and all looks good. Spent a low key day today recovering from the nasty prep and no sleep last night. Heading to the beach tomorrow for a farewell to summer and then I am going to see Pentatonix in concert on Sunday night. Back to school on Monday.
