Ruth - yup Denver metro is getting snow!! Most of the school districts called a snow day for tomorrow. I'm upi in the mountains for the annual CSSP conference (Colorado Society School Psych). The pre-conference was today and the conference is tomorrow and Saturday.
I drove up after work yesterday and it took me 1 1/4 hours. Normally from work max 1 hour. It's 75 minutes from my house. Actually, I'm staying in Frisco last night and tonight and tomorrow I'll stay at the hotel. I do not like driving at night. I got back to near the condo and had to stop at Walmart - and by then it was dark. I have to decide what to do Saturday. The conference ends at 3 or 3:30. I need to stop at the condo on the way home to get stuff I don't want to schlep to the hotel. It will get dark while driving home as it is east bound. It stays light here a bit later. I really rather go home, but I don't like driving in the dark. I have to figure out how far I'll get before it's dark.
This area isn't getting the snow that the front range is.
Wonder - glad you husband at least has an answer. Lots of leaves to rake. How much land do you have?

Went to my Restorative Yoga class tonight, absolutely wonderful.
Love the fish picture Ruth, yes, so peaceful and calming of thoughts
Wonderland, I realized I haven't sent my congratulations and blessing to your family upon the arrival of your granddaughter, so wonderful, special, amazing…even today, so many complications with childbirth, it is a miracle when it all works out. Enjoy your new sweetest member of the family! TT

I hope you got home okay, Karen, or stayed put! I had coffee with a friend of mine this morning who was supposed to be flying through Denver on the way to visit her daughter, but the flight was cancelled due to the weather.
We went for a dog walk this morning; DH is now blowing the leaves into big piles & I will go out and help bag in a few minutes Fun, fun!

TT: Thank-you so much! She's captured my heart.
Karen: The snow storm was on the evening news. Be careful on your way home. You'll make the right decision on which day to travel. Our property is half an acre. The house is not that big so we have a lot of grass to mow and leaves to remove, mainly from 2 large trees. I can mow over the leaves from the smaller trees.
Ruth: We don't bag leaves (but I keep waiting for the city to decide to switch to that) so I have to haul all the leaves in the backyard to the front curb. With raking, hauling, and mowing leaves I had almost 15,000 steps today.
I raked leaves for 2 hours today. Then I got out my mower which I haven't used since the middle of August bc we hired someone to mow due to dh's back injury and mowed under the chestnut tree and other areas for 40 minutes. My plan is to mow leaves every couple of days instead of raking. We'll see how that goes!

We usually borrow our friend's pickup & dump the leaves in there to haul them out. His pickup was in the shop, so we were going to bag leaves in order to take multiple trips to the drop off place in the SUV. Happily, our neighbors were finishing off the rest of their leaves & when they saw me dragging the first 2 bags to the car, they said we could throw them in their pickup! Which saved us so much work!! I am so grateful as it still took 3 hours!
Two dog walks today & I finished the book 'The Women' which is about Army nurses in Vietnam. Very moving, I was crying like a baby at the end. It's for my Book Club & the lady who picked it is married to a Vietnam Veteran who was in the thick of the fighting, so I can hardly imagine her reaction.

Ruth: That was so nice of your neighbor. Saved you a lot of work. I rake the leaves onto a tarp and drag it to the front of the house by the curb. My arms get a good workout. There are so many more leaves on the chestnut that are still green. I'll be addressing them for a long time. I'll love for that book - I know already that it will make me cry.
Karen: Thinking of you and hope you got home safely if you were travelling today.
I met my dd for coffee this morning and then we ran a few errands. Walked in the late afternoon. Dh went with me to the grocery store. He was able to walk around using the cart but he did get tired. First time he had been to the grocery store since the middle of August.
I took this picture of my encore azaleas late in the afternoon so they are not in the sun. They bloom in spring, summer, and fall. I thought everyone would like a little bit of something pretty, especially after this week.

I'm staying in Frisco tonight. The conference ended this afternoon and I didn't want to drive in the dark. I really wanted to be home, but not worth it. The conference was in Vail and I stayed at the hotel last night. W, Th and tonight I'm in Frisco. Frisco is 1/2 hour drive to Vail, but Vail Pass can be a bugger!!! Vail was gorgeous today - managed 2 walks in light snow. My running shoes are still the only shoes that are comfortable 10 weeks post surgery it is still a little swollen but no pain. I have Saucony running shoes.- I bought a second pair - first pair is yellow, new pair is a greenish blue. The sole is pretty thick so my feet didn't get wet walking on snow. I will drive home in the morning.
Wonder - beautiful flowers. Our house in Ohio was small but it was on 4 wooded acres. About 1/2 to 3/4 acre was cleared. We didn't cut down one tree to build the house or the driveway as the driveway was long and curvey!! Sometimes, I miss the house, but it would not have been big enough to raise a family.
Ruth - your trip sounded wonderful.

Lovely flowers! We are sadly past flower season here. I cut back my perennials yesterday, so it looks rather bleak around here.
Karen, drive safely tomorrow. Your weather is making the national news (never a good thing!).
I got spoiled from eating delicious food not made by me for a week, so it's been rather a chore making dinner two nights in a row! I am going through my trip pictures right now. It really was a wonderful, and very educational week. The neatest fellow passenger was a 91 year old lady who was as sharp as a whip. She had been a pediatrician (back when there were very few women doctors), and the mother of 5 (one being a patient whom she adopted after the baby was abandoned by her birth parents). After she retired, she went to Cambodia & set up health clinics there. Amazing!!

Karen - this is a crazy conference, I remember last year you also got stuck with bad weather and long traffic delays…maybe folks in CO get used to it, but eventually you'd think another spot might get picked or another time.
Got to my Sunday yoga class for the first time since July! For 8 years I have gone to a candlelight gentle yoga on Sunday at 5pm…since July it hasn't happened, but was back tonight, yeah! I love the reset after a rushed weekend and before the start of the week ahead.
Tomorrow is my sister's 65th birthday…she is not in a good mood! I am trying to convince her of the blessing to be 65 and still have a mother…she is more focused on how my mother's decline means the b'day celebration is not all about her, but all about what is now feasible. All I can say is that mom's assisted living apartment is certainly many steps better than our celebrating my birthday in August with my mother in ICU!
Tomorrow is also and first, Veterans Day. Thanks to all who served and are serving. TT

I walked yesterday & today. Also went to Zumba and will go to HIT.
A big shout out to all veterans!

TT: Glad you were able to attend your yoga class. Yoga with candlelight sounds relaxing, especially since it gets dark earlier.
I met a group of friends this morning for breakfast. My town has a Veteran's Day parade so dd went to celebrate all veterans. I go every year unless it's cancelled due to rain or I'm sick or I have something I absolutely have to do and can't get out of it. I like it more than the Christmas parade. My dad and fil were both in WWII and I want to honor them as well as all veterans.

Went to Crime Club. Walked in the afternoon.
On Thursday I am presenting a training about the upcoming Cookie Sale for Girl Scout leaders. It's a prepared powerpoint from the Council with 79 slides and 17 pages of talking points. It's so much information and I'm trying to paraphrase and shorten it as much as I can. These ladies will be tired and have families they want to go home to. I've been practicing. I think I've said the word Cookie about 1000 times lol.

Any new cookie flavors?
0 -
There are 2 cookie manufacturers for Girl Scouts. I looked up the Girl Scout Council for your area and they don't use the same company that our Council uses. So I don't know if there will be a new cookie for you this year. We don't have a new one but will next year.
0 -
I am safer if they DON'T have new cookies to try out!
Here's a picture of the outdoor Wednesday Walking Women…..4 others walked inside. As long as it's not too cold & there's no ice on the roads, there will be some who will keep walking outside.

Great picture but BRRRRR!
Still practicing my cookie presentation for tomorrow night and trying to cut the time down. There are 2 computer platforms that are used for the sale. One is for girls to take orders and payments. Troop leaders also have access this one. The other platform is only for leaders. There are 2 slides that show information that flows between the 2 and what information that does not. I'm going to tell the ladies to just take a picture of them bc the printout I'm supposed to read is almost half a page for just one of the slides. Too much to take in all at once.
The Council has an option for customers to make a cookie donation to a food bank, first responders, and military. On one platform it's labeled Donation. On the other platform it's labeled Cookie Share. But the Council calls it Cookies for a Cause. Confusing to say the least!
I mowed for 45 minutes and then had a zoom meeting which was interviewing 2 high school girls for their Girl Scout Gold Award project. I love doing this and meeting the girls. One of the girls wants to be a pediatric neurologist. They are so inspiring!

TT - you're right about the snow last year. The conference is the Colorado Society of School Psychologists. As far as I can remember it's been this time of year - I think first Breckenridge and now for many years at the Grand Hyatt in Vail. They give us a phenomenal rate - $169/night. The regular rate s close to $500/year. Also the mountains so the people who don't live in the front range don't have as far to drive. I have couple great photos from my walk.
It seems like all professional organizations have their conferences the same time every year. Some change locations, others the same place every year. The major show my husband had business wise was always the end of April or beginning of May, but it moved every year. The National School Psych organization always have their conference mid February - this year Seattle, last year New Orleans, a couple years ago Denver. It's also been in San Antonio, Baltimore, Chicago.
Tomorrow is the cataract surgery on my right eye. I wasn't nervous till last night and I'm still anxious. I'll work till 10:30 tomorrow then come home for 11:00, go for a short walk and then we'll leave at 11;30 to check in at noon. I have 6 reports to write for next week and I worked a little tonight but not enough to make a dent. I hope by Sunday, my vision will be good enough to get my reports done for Monday - I have 2 or 3 due on Monday.
HAd my 6 month medical oncology appointment yesterday. All is good. MY tumor markers and CBC are all within normal limits. My CMP - the calcium is high - and my hematologist don't agree what is high. She doesn't worry till over 11, he worries over 10. She wants me on calcium as she says someone my age needs it for bones. So I have to figure out what to do. I also got my Zometa infusion. Endocrinology and cancer also have different protocols regarding Zometa - Endocrinology says once/year - oncologists/hematologist say every 6 months. My hematologist doesn't think much of my endocrinologist so I'm going to ask him if he can recommend one.
Will keep you posted on the cataract surgery. I told my DH that he is the one who will giving my eye drops as I won't be able to do it. I have to label each bottle so we can tell them apart.
Sweet dreams.

Hope your surgery went well, Karen! And, Wonderland, hope your presentation went well too.
I went to HIT this morning. I will go to Dance2fit tonight & maybe stay and try a new class called Circle Yoga. It is foggy and gloomy here today, so it's hard for me to get motivated to get anything done.

One done, one to go. Cataract surgery on Right eye this afternoon. Next Thursday the Left eye will be done. Surgery was 15-20 minutes but lots of waiting before. I had to check in at 12 noon. Wasn't taken back to the "pre-op" area till close to one and it was about 2:15 before I was taken back. Tomorrow I have follow up with optometrist. Not sure when follow up with opthhamologist will be - I think in a month. I can't get new glasses till 3 weeks so a month from now. I will still need reading glasses but that doesn't bother me. I've been wearing reading glasses and lineless bifocals for 27 years!
I need to keep the eye "patch" on for 4 hours and put the first drops in. Then I only need to patch to sleep for the next several days.
Goiong to go shut my eyes. I'm tired,

Karen: So glad that your cataract surgery went well. At some point I will need one and I'll have lots of questions for you.
I'm going to see my granddaughter tomorrow. My son's partner had a C-section and has been in pain from it ever since. She's been back to the doctors a few times and they keep telling her it's normal. She's been advised by her doula that pain this far out from surgery is not normal and she needs to go back for a scan. So she's going back tomorrow and I'm going to help with the baby. The baby has been fine - we just need to get mama feeling better. Today I made lasagna for their meal tomorrow night and I also made an extra one to freeze.
Speaking of surgery, dh's back surgery is scheduled December 5. I talked with a friend of mine who had 3 surgeries for 3 ruptured disc and she is doing fabulous now, just like your dad, Ruth. Hoping it's the same for dh.
Mowed for a little over an hour today. I don't mind mowing when it's cool weather. It most definitely is a workout!

Enjoy Gramma Duty & I hope they will find it's just 'normal' post C-Section pain, Wonderland! I'm sure glad they have DH's surgery scheduled.
I went to the mat pilates & stretching class, out to lunch with a friend & then we brought the grandpuppies over for the afternoon. The weather was nice & we hadn't seen them since before our trip….so it was busy around here (and I will have to clean my house tomorrow!). Tonight we went to a fun concert.

I cleaned the house & washed bedding, towels, throws etc. etc. which took 3/4s of the day. I went on a short dog walk with Bruno & DH & also a longer walk all by myself. I needed just some alone/contemplative time.
0 -
Ruth: Hope your alone time was exactly what you needed. I talk to myself while I walk and try to solve/analyze things going on.
My ds's partner was given a CT scan today. Found out she has a hematoma that has been causing her pain. She had also developed cellulitis from the surgery and has been on antibiotics for it. The doctor prescribed another round of antibiotics for her. She's a trooper and I admire her so much. She is so loving and tender with their baby.
I stayed with my granddaughter for 7 hours and I loved every minute of it, even the crying. She responds calmly to singing so I sang all my show tunes I know. I'm just an ok singer but she liked it. My dd was visiting a friend who lives 45 minutes from ds so she was able to meet the baby for the first time. Dh couldn't come bc there is no way he can travel with his back.

I'm glad DSP (dear son's partner) found out what was going on & it can be addressed. How fun you had such an appreciative audience for your musical performance! 😀I am sure you all will be so glad once DH's surgery is over!!

I put flowers at the church alter this morning in honor of our dgd. The small arrangement is marigolds and azaleas are from our yard. I looked at the weather late last night and saw that the low was going to be 35 degrees. So I went outside at 11:00 with a flashlight and cut flowers! The church donated the rose.
Came home and raked and hauled leaves for over 2.5 hours. Leaf pickup is supposed to come to my neighborhood this week for the first time and I wanted to get as many leaves that I could to the street curb. Decided to take some pictures which also include leaves from 10 days ago. I'm standing knee deep in them. It was hard to take a selfie and get the true perspective of the amount of leaves.
0 -
Glad I raked yesterday bc the city picked up the leaves by the curb this morning. According to their schedule, it will be another month before they come through my area again.
Walked then came home and mowed (mainly leaves) for 45 minutes.

Beautiful flowers & lots of leaves!! Lucky you that your city picks them up. We have to dispose of our own. I did a little end-of-the-season raking today, but I think we're done for the season. We may get some snow tomorrow…..
I was busy all yesterday, but danced around a little with Marshall Fitness on Utube. I went to Zumba this morning & HIT tonight.

Our yard is zeroscape so no racking leaves - but DH will blow them to the edge of the backyard by the fence so we can bag if we want. Obviously not high on our list. Trash pick up will take them once a month on over flow day.
The mountains are getting snow and Denver is going to be in the 30s

Karen: A zeroscape yard sounds amazing. I look at yard work as good exercise. Except when it's so hot and humid. I just can't do it in those conditions. When dh hurt his back in mid August we hired someone to mow. I knew I wouldn't be able to do it myself. We have decided to hire him again next summer when it heats up. I don't mind mowing in cool weather but heat is too taxing on me, especially as I've aged.
Ruth: Did you get snow?
Speaking of yard work, today I shoveled and sifted through a huge pile of catkins that fell from the chestnut tree this summer. Dh had raked and put them into piles right after they fell. As he was doing it he lost his wedding band. The piles have been sitting there since this summer. I worked on one of the piles today. We have a small metal detector so I spread the pile around and swept over it with the detector. Then shoveled the pile into the yard waste cart and looked through each shovel load. It took me 1.5 hours and didn't find the wedding band. There's still more piles but that's for another day. When he first raked the catkins up he loaded up the yard waste cart with them and made piles with what didn't fit in the cart. I worry that his ring was in that load that went in the cart. But maybe I'll find it. Trying to keep "the glass is half full" attitude.
