I started going to the gym 2 weeks ago. I try to go 3-4 times a week. My workout is boring and lowkey and a lot of it is simply walking on the treadmill. I exercise for about 1.5 hours. Then I also walk my dog 1-2 times a day, so that is another 30-60 minutes of walking, depending. On the days I don't go to the gym, I try to get in a 45-60 minute walk in addition to the dog walks.

Thing is, that even the 3-4 short weight workouts for these past weeks have already made me feel beter and stronger.

Hiked around Sunrise at Mt Rainier, or should I say, slogged up a huge snowfield!

I'm tired of this snow. I'm waiting till it finishes melting out.

Also did a little weights. I'm working up to 10 pound dumbbels. I need to organize my workout to include rest days and working on certain things on certain days.

Haven't posted in a while, but I have been working out everyday.  Done with my official phys therapy sessions, but now I just incorporate all of the stretching and lower weight arm exercises into my routines.  Also walk a lot in the city.

I feel more flexible in my right arm and believe I will be back to lifting heavier weights again soon.  Planning to start a spinning class on Monday nights.

hi ladies and welcome Momine.  Great pic misswim!

nibbana, snow sounds wonderful right about now!

Cooling off from walking 4.25 miles this morning in 1.25 hours.

DH and I are headed to Madison today for Art Fair on the Square.  Maybe a side trip down State Street (pedestrian mall) for some hot weather garb at the import store.  Happy Sunday!  ((hugs))

misswim: love the pictures! Thanks for sharing.

Everyone is doing so well! I'm getting back into the swing of things. Thanks to everyone for your support. My job will be eliminated July 31. But guess what: I already had plans to take that week off because we're going to the beach! I get to be at the beach for my last day at work! Not many people can say that.

I pushed mowed yesterday and the trimmed the camelia bush today with sweat dripping off my nose. Now sitting inside enjoying the air conditioning. Smile

((Wonderland)) wishing you all the best with this little 'blip' in the road.... not easy, but I know the window will open for you!

Been keeping very active - every night in the pool for at least 30 - 45 minutes of running/excercise.  And I have been keeping up with the 5 km walk every morning.  The problem now is that we are officially on holidays this week - and you KNOW what can happen when you find a little relaxation!!  Hopefully I will use the pool and hiking trail at the campground to offset the cocktails and smores!!!

Welcome Claire and Momine.  Claire wow you are amazing, I can only ride the kind of bike that is on a stand and doesn't actually go anywhere but I love my spin classes.  Misswim thank you for sharing your photos, those views are a lovely reward for your hard work. Mary Louise have a fun vacation and I'm sure all the hiking will negate the calories, speaking of which I went to lunch with a friend today and here in California they put all the calories on the menu, well I really wanted that black cherry shake but you'd have been proud of me when I saw 720 calories I stuck with water, I know how hard it is to work off 720 caloriesTongue out.

Did Body Combat yesterday and we had the new release of Body Step this morning - just when you think they can't find a way to torture you any more, well they do but it was a fun and full class.

Wonderland, so sorry to hear about your job! The beach vacation will be a nice transition. Best of luck in finding something new.

I'm back from 2 weeks in Minnesota followed by 3 days at Comic-Con in San Diego. Did LOTS of walking, a little swimming, a little yoga, and tried my best to keep up with my PT exercises for my shoulder. Looking forward to getting back to something resembling a routine.

    Beautiful, Misswim!

Our Mardi Gras in July party Saturday was great, and the weather even cooperated.  But now the party is over, and I need to pay the piper after all the fun and good food and beverages. Sooooo, dragged my sorry butt out of bed this morning for a half hour run.  75 degrees and humid as can be, and I'm grumpy and sweating and huffing and puffing.  But I got a big pay off at about the 2 mile mark when I passed by a 4-point buck accompanied by 2 does.  The deer around our neighborhood are so used to people that they were only about 10 feet from me and never moved - I was so close I could see the soft velvet on the buck's horns clearly.  The way he was eying me, for a moment I thought he was going to charge me.  I kept thinking, great - broken ribs from a deer attack are all I need!!  But they let me pass by peaceably, probably having a good deer chuckle watching the red faced primate going by.

Good morning ladies!  Back from my adventure, and yes, I got to Portland.  Cool both days as cloudy most of the way.  Some sun towards the end of Day 1, and a sunny stretch on Day 2.  Also a few showers, but never got really wet.  (Glad I missed the thunderstorm here in Seattle!)

I will exercise, but a bit later this AM.  Tired and depleted, but not that sore, amazingly.  Wonderful sights and stories.  My favorite is the escorted ride over the Longview Bridge where you gear down into LOW and grind away.  I was in mid grind, when a guy next to me told me how much he "loves watching a woman with leg burn".  Sure made my week.

Heidihill.....you want newer bike shorts.  Trust me on that one.  That is, if you ride more than about 20 miles at a time.  Less than that, and I would go for cute and attractive.

Next is the ride to Vancouver BC in five weeks.  Nothing like an incentive to keep training.  I was surprised at how much stronger I am this year than ever.  Great news.  Really flew the end of Day 1 when I was running out of time (was cycling with my friend and young son and needed to go ahead), and the last 30 miles of the ride.

I have to get to work, but taking part of this morning off.  Need tea, and real food.  And no energy gels......YAY!!!

And back to the weights/crunches routine.  Anything that doesn't require sitting on a bicycle seat.

Have a great week everyone. - Claire

    Good job, Clarie!

    Beware of the deer, Mary!

Walked for an hour this morning and did 45 minutes of toning with Denise Austin tonight. Too hot here!

Adey, can we order some cooler weather for Chicago?

    Brava Claire!

LOL Mary, deer chuckling at a red-faced primate would make a great Far Side cartoon.

Got a taste of hot city summer at Art Fair on the Square yesterday.  Stopped first on State Street and bought a hat.  A wonderful hat called a breezer, from the Henschel Hat Co, St. Louis, MO.  Not much money and I like to buy American-made.  Fits well and nice & cool on my head.

Also found a great vintage clothing store.  DH was tapping his foot so I didn't linger, but spotted a rack of "hippie" clothing that I plan to peruse Weds for all-cotton peasant blouses.  Didn't see any granny gowns. Wink

Logged 3.5 miles walking around the Capitol square looking at gorgeous works of juried art, by artists from all over the country.  We were so wiped out when we got home.  Treated myself to sleeping in until 4:30 this morning so no pre-dawn walk but still managed to log 5.3 miles today (11,222 steps).

    Have a great night everyone!

When it gets hot Ruth, I go SWIMMING!!!  We have this large "pool" called Lake Washington and a smaller one, called Green Lake.

Today, I rested.....was just tired, but managed a bit of work.  Plus, walked a mile to the drugstore and supermarket and back (and weights/crunches).

Expecting to be back in form tomorrow.  I felt really great when talking to a 30-something who walks dogs for residents of my building (talk about a way of making money and getting exercise!).  She did the STP one year, and it took her TWO MONTHS to recover.

So real food, wine, and an early night.  Once the sun sets, that is, which is one hour from now.  Glorious evening here. - Claire

Attagirl, Claire! That's quite an amazing achievement. And amazing recovery.   Badger, nice way to log miles -- combining it with art.  Biked one hour in the city doing errands plus 15 minutes with dumbbells.

I decided to try something different in the heat, so I jumped in the pool this morning and ended up doing a 45 minute aquatic workout in out pool - 15 minute Lebeds, then 30 minutes of stuff using a noodle for resistance.  At the end, I also attempted a 4 minute Tabata routine of hanging on the edge and kicking (Tabata is a 4 minute workout - 20 seconds of all out 100% effort at some activity, then 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times.)  I only made it through 3 of the 8 cycles before being completely winded and exhausted, so now I have a goal!  I think I'll google water exercises and see if I can cobble together a credible water exercise program to do a couple of times a week, then finish it off with a tabata program.  Anyone have a good link to a water exercise demo?
