Walked in the extreme humidity last night with husband, and then we biked a good 3-4 miles a couple hours later and the weather was much kinder, less humidity and very breezy as we deal with the reminants of Isaac.  Prayers for the northern Gulf Coast, hope this thing fails to strengthen much.  Long day at work today, that may be my workout :-)  Hope you all have a good day!

No exercise yesterday other than a little mall walking while shopping :)  hope for a walk at lunch today and then off to the gym after work.

Had my appt. yesterday with new BS.  I adored my old one, but she moved to california.  This woman was nice, but I don't love her - maybe no one will measure up to my old BS?  One thing she did ask me about was if I had had physical therapy after my surgery, which I did not.  I've complained off and on about a tightness in my bicep, and occasionally my lumpectomey divot fills up, I assume with fluid.  It has been bothering me again lately, so she said I probably have a little lymphedema and should go see a specialist in breast cancer therapy.  She also wrote me a scrip for a compression sleeve.  That might be a little overkill, but I certainly will give the therapy a try.   I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe my new BS has a low key personality, but she didn't poohpooh suspected lymphedema like my last BS did.

I started exercising way too soon after my surgery. One way to describe how I felt was bruised from the inside out in my abs.... The gyn said it was likely trauma to the muscles by overworking them too soon. The back and hip stuff has been chronic but the kickboxing and lifting i was doing exacerbated it. I did have a chiro appt and then yoga therapy which was awesome.

    Hello to All.

Pat: Your new BS sounds like a keeper!

misswim: your bruising description sounds painful. Glad your chiro appt. and yoga helped.

Just returned from my walk/run at the park. Once again I'm drenched from the humidity. My hair is soaked. Anticipating cooler, drier weather!

My thoughts are with everyone within Isaac's path.

7 days in a row walking!  Yeah for me!  Not a pound lost though.  That's okay, I have made a start.

    Hi Ladies,

Checking in after my NYC visit.  Yes, I walked, and walked some more, at least 4-5 miles each day.  Got up today at 4:45 Eastern time to head out to JFK via subway and AirTrain.  Then walked home a mile from Westlake Center here in Seattle.  Plus all the airport walking.  AND.....I walked half a mile each way for groceries a little while ago.

    I have a head cold/cough so didn't do weights/crunches when I got back.  I did take a nap though.

Work in the AM.  Cleared email, but no real work.

Dinner and an early night.  Can't wait to sleep in my own bed.  Reminder to find the cough syrup.

Will post a fun pic in the AM.....bacon blue cheeseburger is calling me. - Claire

    Traveling IS exercise!

Did some FIRM toning when I got home tonight after an open house at the school.

Whaevah, are you getting Neulasta shots? If not, maybe you should be. Undecided

30 minutes walk around the neighborhood.  It was a short one due to the late hour.  It was past dark, I was heading down an empty street and a very big solitary man was heading my way.  Was just about to get nervous when he said a friendly "Hi".  I love my neighborhood.  Otherwise there were a couple other dog-walkers.

Body Step class tonight and the instructor dragged out a lot of the "old" stuff and have to say I love the old stuff then went to the hospital and did the car park to CCU walk, my friend was sitting in a chair so progess but after all she has been through she may have to have a pacemaker implanted as her heartbeat is only at 40bpm better than the 150bpm she went in there with. Wonderland it's hot and sticky here as well, I thought summer was over and put the fan away but I've dragged it out again tonight as it's clammy and I guess it's going to stay that way for a week, ughhh.....

It was mid-90s yesterday & is supposed to hover around 100 today.....I just stopped at the store and bought a bunch of water bottles for my class, no air conditioning or windows in my room. We are going to feel like pizza cooking in the oven by the end of the day!!

All I got in was a 30 minute walk yesterday.  Sitting in the gym parking lot after work I got a call from a friend from college, who I haven't seen in nearly 20 years.  She was in my area, could we meet for dinner?  So off I went to meet her and her hubby whom I had never met.  Delightful evening catching up, the miracle of facebook.  Gym clothes in the car, definitely will try to get to the gym tonight.

Did an hour of reformer pilates.   Lots of ab work, will feel this tomorrow no doubt.

misswim  ((hugs)) and good wishes for fast healing

oceanbreeze   It would be great if Isaac would die out before getting to New Orleans.  They have had enough to deal with, already.   Hopefully it remains a Cat 1 or less.

ruthbru I mentioned this to my Oncologist before but he has refused, saying I would need to miss more than one treatment. I was curious as I see many others who have Neulasta with most if not all treatments. Yesterday I was told a one week delay is nothing to be concerned about, it is built in the treatment plan and that I should not worry. Undecided

It is not a matter of insurance as I have a premium extended health care plan. I have all my reports, including CD's of scans, blood work, and surgeons notes to carefully monitor my treatment. But this issue eludes me.

Whaevah, I had neulasta after each chemo, as a matter of course. I had 8 chemo treatments, with a BMX between #4 and #5, followed by rads and an ooph. I am guessing the onc wanted to maintain my condition as well as possible, so I would make it through in one piece.

whaevah - neupogen and neulasta ... i had low hemoglobin and low infection fighters.  these two drugs tell your bone marrow to makes infection fighters... one is short acting and one long acting.  and the bone marrow typically does so and then does not make the other things, like platelets and red blood cells.  so, it's a funny balance.  giving one of these drugs will boost up your infection fighters but might allow your hemoglobin to drop too much or your platelets to drop too much.  the latter happened with me one time.  this was during my twelve treatments of taxol with carboplatin every third treatment.  i think i got sent home a total of three times for blood count issues.

i remember feeling like it was just a horrible thing, to be sent home.  i also remember long discussions about the pros and cons of giving neupogen....

during the a/c portion of my treatment, i had the  neulasta shot the day after each treatment (4x).  i never had any delays due to blood count issues during that time, although my hemoglobin dropped below 8 at one point...  was so hard to catch my breath!  but, i managed...

anyway, it feel awful being sent home - missing a treatment... scary even.  i felt like the cancer would suddenly explode and spread everywhere.  also, i wanted to stay on schedule because i had things coming in the fall.  i didn't stay on schedule, and there were three rough weeks there in the fall.  but, i managed, and, at the end of the day, it was not as terrible as i thought it was gonna be.

and since this is the exercise thread... i rode my bike to work... and i did ten stair climb repeats at the stairs on campus - about 8 flights of stairs.  i'll ride my bike home with a grocery store stop on the way at the end of the day.

hope everyone has a great day... stay cool!  it's hot here!

I was furnished with Neulasta by Amgen as part of the treatment protocol I was on (SWOG 0221).  Really, really helpful as I didn't need to worry about things like slicing my thumb instead of the potatoes, or if I didn't thoroughly cook my steak.

I did six DD AC treatments, followed by six Taxol and exercised throughout.  Again, Neulasta helped as never got any infections.

I would go on the Amgen website and read up.  They have a lot of useful info there.  Good luck.

Still trying to get up the ambition to do weights/crunches as really dragging from jet lag, plus fever and cough.  Plus trying to get work out.  So glad to be in cool temps.

Next step is finding the part my computer needs. - Claire

Hi Whateva (and all you other exercise gals) -

I'm going through radiation now, but didn't need chemo (thank goodness).  I took care of my mom when she had cancer and underwent chemo.  She was a strong woman, but would say during her later rounds of chemo that she would just hit the wall.  Her body would tell her when enough was enough, and then she'd crash on the couch and watch Turner Classic Movies to her hearts content.

Although I'm fighting fatique under radiation, I'm trying to take advantage of my "good days", and get out my running shoes.  I know it's going to get worse before it gets better, but I find delight on those days when I feel good.

    Kay

Whaevah, different clinics must have different protocols.  I didn't get Neulasta my first time, then the second my counts were low but they let me go ahead with the treatment and did Neulasta the day after.  This time, my counts were OK beforehand but MO told me she likes to continue Neulasta anyway once someone has needed it once, so I got it again.  Your place must just wait longer for your counts to come up before they use it.  Personally that would annoy me since it would make it harder to schedule the down-time after the infusions.  If it bothers you perhaps you could push for them to go ahead with it?

BikerLee you read my mind, depressing and fearful to be sent home. Thanks for all the great info, I just finished 4DDac and this was to be my first Taxol 12w

Momine , Kay-in NH, Ann. thanks for responding :) yes, I hit the wall and yes I will push my Onc for a clearer reason for declining Neulasta

Claire in Seattle I will research Amgen site, thank you

To All, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it! Sorry to derail, so I will leave this by saying:

Today I will walk on my treadmill for at least 15 mins. It always cheers me up Smile

Hope all of you have a smoothe ride through chemo and rad therapy this week and you all can get back on track with you training as soon as you are able.

    Have a great Thursday

whaevah: I also was given Neulasta after 7 of my 8 chemo tx (DD AC x 4 and DD Taxol x 4). Even on Neulasta my WBC bottomed out after my last AC and I was put in the hospital for 3 days and given transfusions. Got better and was delayed one week before starting Taxol. I also needed Aranesp 3 times towards the end for my RBC. I was so thankful for these drugs! Good luck with your Taxol.

Kay: Good luck with your rads. I had mine during June and July. I exercised at the beginning but the heat and humidity set in about the same time radiation fatigue hit me. Your body will tell you when to go and not go!

I sound like I'm repeating myself, but I just returned from walking/running at the park. Once again, it was hot and very humid. Once again, I'm drenched but thankful I did it! Smile

Did my weights/crunches and a walk.  Also signed up for a cycling event for September 16 and chose the most difficult course.  Cause is domestic violence, so well worth doing.

Dragging, coughing, and computer screen is getting dimmer.  I am off to Sony tomorrow to get things sorted out.  What a bummer!  Still backing up my files and can move to my old computer for the projects I have going on.  Glad I didn't dump it.  It isn't pretty, but I can work until I get my VAIO back (or replaced if not worth fixing).  Hoping it's the cheap part.

The good news is that Sony does bench repair here in Seattle so much quicker than it would be otherwise.

Now to create a system disk, have dinner and an early evening.

hi ladies, it's been hot here days but cool nights so I've been walking after supper.

Logged 6.1 km = 3.79 miles for yesterday.

I didn't get the neupogen/neulasta shots during chemo but can remember walking and feeling my shin bones hurting.  I thought it was the same effect experienced by many people who got the shots, so I told myself it was the exercise stimulating my bone marrow.  Maybe a rationalization, IDK but it seemed to do the trick.

Ten minute warm up on the treadmill, then some upper body resistance training with 2 sets of deadlifts, ab roller, and stability ball jacknifes thrown in.

Still feeling under the weather, maybe bec of yesterday's herceptin. Thinking a little exercise might help.

Got my walk in at lunch yesterday, then went to the gym after work - did C25K on the treadmill, but didn't have time to do the weight machines.
