Thanks and amen sister, you said it!

Have you guys heard of Dr. Gourmet?  He's an MD who started out as a chef.

I heard an interview with him on public radio last week, it was fascinating.

He's Dr. Timothy Harlan with the Tulane U Center for Culinary Medicine.  His book is:

"Just Tell Me What to Eat: the delicious 6-week weight-loss plan for the real world"

Here's his website, you don't have to buy the book to get great info.

Did my ride today just before the real rain rolled in.  Tomorrow's big ride in canceled, so I will go back to Plan B.  I need an early start to stay relatively dry.

Touched that you thought of me Ruth.  Will be doing pork chops tonight.  Plus, think kale as have some lovely Russian kale.  I think I have what I need for a tomato salad.  I have another piece of steak, but most likely for tomorrow.

I feel a pumpkin custard coming on.  So easy to make:  you slay, and roast a sugar pumpkin, then scrape out the contents.  (Cheese pumpkins are even better.)  So the pulp goes into a blender with about three eggs, some turbinado sugar, a bit of cream.  (You can freeze extra pulp.)  You puree into a nice smooth mixture.  Then dump into a souffle dish and bake until nicely set.  (Not sure how long, but I bake at 350.)

Yum, served lukewarm with a bit of cream on top.

Back to work.  Taking things easy tonight food wise. - Claire

Half hour hike in the misting rain with DH and the dog.   Also got in an hour of advanced reformer work, feeling nice and stretched out.

Disappointed with the Nats game but wow, what a great season they had

Claire  What is a sugar pumpkin?  or cheese pumpkin?

Big Halloween pumpkins make wonderful jack'o'lanterns but are tough and stringy, so not good for pies.  The little round ones are grown for that and called "sugar pumpkins".  Then there are thin-skinned ones with either a bluish or different tan.  They are actually related to butternut squash more than pumpkins, but pumpkin-shaped.  They have a smoother, sweeter flesh. It's slighly darker too.  And they are THE BEST for pies!

I am doing a spot of work and then out for some sort of exercise.  A walk if truly foul.

I slept in this morning and it felt wonderful.  Busy week ahead.  Starting in a few minutes.

Hoping you feel better Misswim and than NOT the creeping crud. - Claire

    Pumpkin custard sounds delicious.

Walked yesterday but really had to force myself to go.  I had barely slept or pooped since Taxol on Thursday and felt utterly inhuman.  Fortunately my feet remembered how to walk.  After six senokat-S and a bunch of dried apricots and an Ativan yesterday I managed to sleep most of the night and finally had a BM this morning.  Thank goddess for small favors!  Will catch up on long neglected paperwork today and walk again this evening.

I got in 35 miles of cycling.  Was quite wet the second half, but I was toasty (if soggy) until walking in the door.  So dripping clothes in the washing machine, and ME into a hot bath.  So nice to have right next to each other.

Even with just two days of rain, the earth is coming alive again with fresh grass and flowers.

Very autumnal now with low light so glad for bicycle lights and my new supernova yellow jacket.  Jacket also kept my core dry so passed that test.

Feeling hungry now, but need to get some more work done.  Not quite where I need to be, so more grindstone.  Fortunately, I have most of dinner already made.

Ann......I found pears to be a godsend during Taxol.  Sweet, lots of water, and most importantly....FIBER.  The Anjou ones should be coming in, which "worked" the best.

One other thing I am glad for is the industrial carpet in my Subaru.  I was thinking when I threw my muddy bicycle into the back, and dripping, muddy ME into the front (after removing my really wet jacket) how I am just not an eggshell leather interior girl.  This is before you mention chain grease.

Now, I have planned my living room differently.  If you are drinking red wine, you can sit on the burgundy ultrasuede chairs.  But white wine drinkers get the Haitian cotton sofa. - Claire

Took a little walk but spent the rest of the day working on thank you notes for memorials made in honor of my dad. My brother and sister will be here mid-week for a few days. We will try to wrap up dad financial affairs etc. and also writing thank yous is on the agenda. But I wanted to get the memorials sent to me by my friends off the table before then (also, since I've been doing my dad's personal correspondence the past several years, there are friends of his that I want 'dibs' on to thank also). I need to clean my house and buy groceries before then too. Sigh...no rest for the wicked!

Been feeling like I've been coming down with something for over a week now, and used that as my excuse to take it easy - well, the scale certainly shows I have been a slacker, coupled with it being my birthday mid week with celebrations the day of and both weekends.  So, got to get back on track here, did classical stretch this am, hope to walk at lunch, and my gym bag is in the car.  If this postnasaldrip/cough/little sore throat ever develops into anything substantial, then I will take it easy.  Sorry you got the creeping crud missswim.  I have not had a cold since before I was diagnosed, that's a long time to go without a cold, so I'm sure when I get one it's going to be a doozy!

Ruth, it all sounds a bit overwhelming-- I hope your brother & sister's visit is a comfort.  Misswim, sorry about the strep throat.  Pat, happy birthday!  LilacBlue, thanks for the good wishes.

I actually felt almost fully human yesterday and did about a mile walk.  Today it's off to the clinic for a Neupogen shot, then later if I'm up to it I'm going to hoop dancing class.

Claire, thanks for the tip about pears.  I hadn't thought of those.  Now I'm armed with pears and prune juice in addition to the dried apricots and pharmaceuticals.  Hoping Taxol #3 will be more manageable.

misswim: sorry about the strep throat dx. Strep throat hurts!

Ann: congrates on the mile walk!

Ruth: hope the visit is a comfort and not an uncomfort

I've been off the board for several days. BUT that doesn't mean I haven't been active. I've continued to walk/run, clean house, etc. I started my new job today. All the "new stuff" is making my brain tired - and it's only the first day! I've been sitting too much so I'm signing off and going for my walk/run.

Too much sitting is the new smoking: NOT good for you.

Did a lot of walking today.  First one was to pick up my new contact lenses.  I think I finally have the right prescription so now all should be better.  Not too bad looking in the mirror and seeing my face in more detail than anyone should ever be seeing it.

Then off to the Post Office to get out my taxes.  So thrilled to have 2011 in my past.  I can't believe where I am now vs one year ago.

Wonderland....major congrats on the job.  Also, it's "learning curve" not the "late effects of active treatment".  I find that more exercise helps me handle everything.

I have a training class to attend in the AM.  Surprise, but I do need to go.  Then a conference call, then more work.  So now working on the item due Wednesday.  Yowsers!!!

Something is wrong if you find yourself dreaming of Excel spreadsheets, and not sugar plums!!!

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful evening.  I am home snug in the rain. - Claire

Weights, yoga, running around at work...wash, rinse, repeat. Food? Ok, I have the world's best brussel's sprouts recipe reheating. Brussel's sprouts roasted with balsalmic vinegar, then tossed with dried cranberries and pistachios.

I think the real reason we all exercise is that we all love to eat!!!!!

Walked for an hour in the beautiful fall weather (it's also supposed to be nice tomorrow and then get cold and damp for the rest of the week), also did an hour of FIRM toning; working ahead because of the upcoming company.

Suspect you are right, Ruth.  I just put some Emmer Farro on.  But sauteed some shallots and leftover chanterelles from the steak to go into the mix.  I may expire from the heavenly scent before I ever get to eat.

I have a 7:30 breakfast training class meeting that I just found out about.  Hoping the BREAKFAST is up to snuff.

Beyond foul here, but that is fine.  Got in my weekend cycling, and will walk during the week.

Enjoying a proper fall dinner with last tomato salad. - Claire

Saw the doctor about my foot today - no resolve he's sending me on to someone else and told me don't be afraid if they want to break a bone in your foot and let it "float" whoaaaaa something to do with metatarsil alignment, didn't want to give me a shot to give me some relief as said he might do more damage than good, ah well now I wait for the next referralFrown

Two mile dog walk tonight, one of those miles carrying one of the dogs as she dug in and wouldn't or couldn't go any further so had to carry her home, second day I walked her and had to carry her home, she's a teacup yorkie so it's an easy carry.

ah Cheryl, don't you hate being referred to a specialist?  Esp one that may break a bone!

Wonderland, congrats on new job and misswim sorry about the strep throat.

Ruth, good luck with your company.  Remember that family is good at pushing your buttons because they installed them in the first place.

Walked at lunchtime yesterday, got over to the Capitol before the "solidarity singers" started up at noon.  They've been singing protest songs every weekday at noon for 18 months now, ever since Act 10 (collective bargaining) was pushed through.

7.85 km = 4.88 miles for the day.

Walk at lunch yesterday, C25K and weight machines at gym after work, crunches last night, and classical stretch this morning.  Feeling much better today, though a little tired.  Watched my Peyton til halftime and went to bed pretty discouraged, only to wake up and find they scored 35 unanswered points in the second half!  Have lymphadema therapy this afternoon.  Beautiful day here - enjoy everyone.
