Bras 101: The Great Post-Exchange Debate

From reading the information above it seems like the bras with no lining and underwire are most recommended for us gals. I bought a bra made by Freya that is unlined and really don't like it at all. I just can't get use to not having any padding..My favorite sport bra is definitley the moving comfort fiona bras.. Love them. Other than that I like the VS lightly lined with a slight push-up built in.. When I just want to hand around the house and be comfortable the cotton hanes sport bras with the front closure do the trick and have quite a bit of support.. Can't complain when you are getting 2 bras for 10.00

jkz: I prefer the VS with padding too--they just look better imo--it's the only way I get any upper pole fullness.

jkz - Yes, in the ideal world.......and we certainly ALL live there, right?......an unlined underwire is the bra of choice for the initial few months (and perhaps several months) post-exchange. That's because in truly helps "sculpt" the implants into their correct location. Even a small amount of lining/padding prohibits the underwire from snuggling right up next to the implants. HOWEVER, that scenario just doesn't work for some women; perhaps their PS's are anti-underwire or they need that extra padding because they had NS MX's and those nips have the potential to be "on" all the time. Regardless, the important thing is that you SUPPORT the beautiful result that YOU and your PS worked so hard to achieve by wearing SOME kind of bra!
After those initial months, when the capsules should have formed around the implants, then go for those lined and padded bras! I'm personally just more comfy in an unlined style, though I tend to not wear them with certain tops; even though my faux nips have very little projection, it's enough for my dh to notice (and comment!), and I certainly don't need to entice any more older gentlemen at the grocery......the foobs do that enough already!

I almost forgot.......yesterday the question was posed about Panache not being friendly for us girls with implant recon. Well......I certainly DID write that in my initial post......which I STILL haven't gotten around to editing......my Nordstrom fitter actually told me that, after I tried a couple styles they had there. HOWEVER, the new styles, particularly the "Porcelain" seem to fit implants very well, and I highly recommend them. Great t-shirt bras! (and they have a little padding! )0

Ohhhh thank you for that info about Panache, Val. 'Twas I who inquired...and shall be shoppin' for Panache, in the near future. I love options.
Hopefully my new Freyas shall arrive tomorrow, and we will dish about them here, there and everywhere. ("Here" means here, "there" means the pic forum, and "everywhere" means wherever I happen to be when I practice my public displays of indecency.)

Nordstrom Anniversary will be having lots of bras on sale. I only found one unlined bra that fit at Nordstrom and it was an Elle McPhearson (sexy) otherwise all light padding. I found one Chantelle that fit me tonight otherwise I am all Natori. Happy shopping!

Nothing wrong with Natori

Hi ladies,
I found a new bra site called figleaves.com. Have you all heard of it? Is it decent? They're having a sale right now on some really pretty freyas and I haven't seen prices this cheap except on ebay and was wondering if it really is too good to be true.
Let me know if you've heard of it and especially if you've bought from them before. My one year foob anniversary is coming up at the end of July and although the last thing I really need is another bra ... I want to do something to celebrate and buying a pretty freya at a very low price ... can't think of anything much better!
Oh .... here's the link:

Here is the Panache "Lucy" Cleo bra that Val was talking about and it's on SALE on the figleaves site!
Here's the Freya new Alexa bra that I love and it's also on sale:
And I gasped when I saw this one ... Freya "Eleanor" the one that I can't find anywhere ... been discontinued ... they have it!! Yeah, not for long ... but they have it!

Dawne-Hope, I checked into figleaves myself a few weeks ago and here were my conclusions: they are in the UK, and can take a LONG time to ship but some people rave about them so I was on the fence; especially since I return 75% of what I try. According to their own website; you should keep your cart under $200 because if you're over you almost always get customs charges to import to the US. Even when under $200; you'll sometimes get charged customs and it seems to be "hit or miss" whether you'll get charged no matter what the amount. If you DO get charged customs, it is collected upon delivery and those charges are a pain to recoup if you return items. So I was leary. But this is on their site:
"All goods are shipped from the UK.
You may be liable to pay import duty or tax on goods entering your country. The amount of duty, if any, depends on the type of goods and their value. Some items can be imported without paying any duty at all. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. We have no control over these charges and unfortunately can't predict what they might be.
You may want to keep your total basket value below the customs duty threshold in your country. For imports to the US this is currently $200."
I currently have things in my shopping cart on figleaves, but I am uncertain about customs charges! SO I haven't bought from them...if you try it, let us know how it goes!0 -
They do have some nice prices on that site! But not so nice if you end up paying extra taxes and duties.
The araballa for $30 -- is amazing.
So what IS the difference between a plunge and a balcony bra? I guess the plunge is more low cut in the center? In the photos the bras look identical (as pictured).

Ok, that Freya is super cute....they dont have it in my size though! Wah, I cant wait to wear wires so I can get cute bras!!! (Wait, did I just say that?) But my Chantelles should be coming in the mail today! Ill be curious to see how it fits. My right one is decidedly a hamburger bun now - it's swelling went way down. The left is still quite taught. I'm kinda liking seeing D next to my size now instead of A so hopefully the swelling wont go TOO much down.

Hi ladies,
Have been lurking on here for a couple of days. Just started having fills and needing an education on bras. Was so excited to be able to wear them again after rads ( was only wearing cotton shelf tanks).
Jkz, I love the Incredible. I also like Biofit. They are discontinuing the wireless version, so I bought several of those, as that is the last thing they told me after MX. I went a little nuts, and Lilah has reigned me in, since I prob won't be able to wear these for long, as I am now a moving target.
Happy shopping!0 -
I have heard of Figleaves but I never bought from them, however, I have purchased products from the UK and I have never been charged. I think the odds, if spending under the limit, of paying extra charges are slim and none. You wait a bit longer for items but no longer then getting something UPS ground, so I say go for it!!!

thanks, ladies for your input on figleaves. it makes sense why they're cheaper ... you may pay customs. there are a couple on there that I love that I can't find anywhere else ... so if I do it ... I'll keep you posted. thanks for your input!

Val....quick question....do Freya swim suits fit true to size or do you have to go up one size? Up in the cup or up in the band also?

I just wanted to say "thank you" to you ladies and this thread. Else I would have never known I could get some of the exact same bras as I tried on at Nordstrom's for a FRACTION of the cost on ebay! I purchased 3 chantelles that were identical to one I bought after my fitting at Nordstrom and those THREE total cost the same on ebay as the ONE I purchased there. So thank you!
Also... I have a question....while searching...I'm noticing several "women" selling "My well worn trashed VS bra" and it sometimes says "private" with the description. Also the pic shown appears to be the seller actually wearing the bra!! Why would anyone want to buy those? My hubby thinks it's some sort of poorly disguised soft porn thing?! Yikes!
0 -
I agree with your DH Susan.... the word "private" being a dead giveaway. Ewwww!!!!
0 -
Susan: lol! My DH says the same thing. Pervie men buying women's undies: ewwww!!!!
0 -
Too funny! I am SO naive! You ladies are right! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
I wish she wasn't the same SIZE as me so her darn pic wouldn't keep popping up in my searches! lol!

There might be a way to block a user... go to your account page on Ebay and see.

Good idea! Thank Lilah, I would have never thought of that.

whippetmom - I've tried several Freya and Fantasie suits over these past two summers. In general, I'd say the tops run quite true to size. I wear my trusty 30DD in them. However, since they are not adjustable - only have that clip clasp in the back - if you're on the edge of a size, then I'd adjust accordingly. I did get a suit last summer that didn't come in a 30 size, so I got the 32 and sized down in the cup accordingly. For me, it was fine as long as I didn't get in the water; when it got wet, it felt too big....though I promise I didn't flash and scare anybody.... Be careful following the advice on sites like herroom, etc about sizing up in the cups; I did that with one of my suits last year. Although initially I thought it was fine, once I wore it - of course, when I was already on vacation! - I realized the cups were too big because the center wires were digging into my sternum.....really messed up my first day at the beach! So.....I took my needle and thread (yes, I always travel with them....and yes, I'm a nerd) and took a tuck in the cups on each side......an adequate solution that got me through the week without sacrificing my new bikini!
Dawne-Hope - I ALMOST ordered from Figleaves last year, but never did. Those prices are certainly great, though! And Cameron......that's one way for you to get your beloved British Freyas!
Double EWWWWWW to the mere thought of weird guys and bras........
Lilah - a true "balcony" or"balconette" bra is generally cut fairly straight across, with just a small dip in the cleavage. Here is one that I have.....no drooling, Cameron.......http://www.amazon.com/Harlequin-Isis-Balconette-Bra/dp/B0021BFIMG A plunge bra is cut much wider, with less center coverage......like my new Cleo "Lucy" bra that Dawne-Hope linked above. Freya kinda combines the two styles in many of their bras.....the best of both worlds!

Just posted my VS Gingham Cotton Bra on the bra thread and updated my nipple pictures.

MBJ -- the gingham is adorable (sorry I forgot to comment, was too impressed by the recon
Val -- thank you! And wow I think even I'M drooling over that Harlequin Isis bra!

Lilah: Thank you!!! I love the quaintness and girlishness of the gingham bra and panties. If they still had the bikini instead of just a thong to match I would have been tempted to have it lined and turn it into a swimsuit.
Cameron: GORGEOUS BRAS! You should be the Freya model!!!
