shianne - yeah for NED!!!
iatiger - yeah for squishees!!! be gentle with yourself and rest up!
swgee - rest up and feel better!!!
dyvgrl - welcome to your new home; stick around for lots of love and support here!
websister and anyone else waiting for scans - sending hugs and getting into pockets.
I'm forgetting lots of people I'm sure - hugs to all.
Will be looking to have you all join me in a pocket party on the 31st. Have two MRIs scheduled thanks to persistent stiff neck and tingly fingers for the past 3+ weeks. Saw the neurologist today and she expressed concern about my brachial plexis (apparently rads can cause nerve damage there; and of course bc can spread there). Sigh... F'ing BC - the give that keeps on giving. Fingers crossed for a pinched nerve or something simple that a little PT can fix.
Love ya all! Sleep tight!

Ramols - will definitely be in your pockets for your MRI's, will cross my fingers with you that PT is the answer. Are you having any PT presently or did they want to wait and see what the MRI's showed?
Dyvgirl - adding my welcome to you, this is a great group of ladies to have in your pockets
Aruba - so sorry about your friend - how awful for her.
Juneau - also sorry to hear about your friend, sending hugs. Thanks for yours earlier today.
Latigger - congratulations. Hope all goes well and drains are quickly a thing of the past
Scottie/Joanne - sorry to see that Toronto lost, I actually didn't believe my husband when he told me because they had such a good lead
Liefie - getting closer - May 21st we will be having another pocket party for you
Shianne - hope snow is now melted?
Tazzy - how does your garden grow?
I had a date for my bone scan given to me this a.m. for May 27th but the oncologist called this afternoon and she is going to have them move it up and is adding a liver/gallbladder U/S. It was good to speak with her.
Goodnight everyone0 -
Websister-I am sorry you have been in pain...that stinks! Having the MO listen to you and act accordingly is great. Get that blouse with the big pockets out cause here we come!
Ramols, same with you for the big blouse...bc makes me so mad that we have to hope for pinched nerves or other lesser maladies .
Iatigger...CONGRATS!!!!
Swgee-continue to mend!
Liefie...countdown continues...will be in your pocket as well!
I spent day at the friends house helping in the kitchen etc as shiva calling hours continued...will go back again tomorrow. This is still such a shock and so heartbreaking..

I am in pockets for those with appointments this week as needed.
I also have on big pockets today so you all can jump in for my first mammogram and BS appointment since diagnosis. I can't wait until it is over! At least I will get the results right away and won't have to play the wait and worry game.
Our house deal fell through, but we have already found another one so am hoping this inspection goes better than the last one.
Hugs to everyone!
I will let you all know how it goes later today.0 -
In everyone's pockets today.
So Angelina Jolie ad a double mx? And was back to normal activity within a couple days. I guess she's tougher than all of us. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing about it already.0 -
I'm with you Shianne. Everyone i know is sending me links to articles/clips about it. Not sure how I feel about it to be honest - aside from being sick of hearing about it already. I'm very thankful I didn't have the BRCA gene to contend with so didn't have to make a pre-emptive decision like that. Although I guess by choosing to prophylactically remove my right breast since it had some suspicious spots but was deemed cancer-free - I made a similar kind of choice. I think I'm just angered by our health care system and society that we feel amputating our breasts is a good option for preventive care. Can't we find any other methods to help prevent BC than lopping off our boobs? I might also be steaming about it because i recently read that article in the times about how so much of the money raised for bc goes to awareness and screening and not nearly as much goes to finding a cure. Granted screening helps lots of women - but it sure doesn't help me or the many who get BC before they are of screening age. I hadn't even had a baseline mamo yet - and here I am... And while I'm thankful that my chemo, rads and other drugs seem to have done the trick (pending MRI results later this month... sigh...) - can't we find less barbaric treatment methods in this day and age? ACT is the same f'ing chemo regimen my friend's mom had 20 years ago. Granted it worked - but at what cost do we continue to use these dangerous drugs? Our hearts have to be constantly monitored, we run all other kinds of risks, our veins get ruined. For the love of pete - 4 rounds of adriamycin is the life-time allotment you're allowed due to its potency! We haven't found something a little less harmful yet? And then there is lymphedema risk, and possible late effects of radiation. Sigh... Sorry - don't mean to be a buzzkill. But I think my tingly fingers and pending scans, along with everyone praising Angelina Jolie for her tough decision and raising awareness is just wearing me down today. Ok - off to go pick up my boys from pre-k and squeeze them so I can find my happy!

Ramols - in your pockets. The waiting is always the worst part! Sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts your way.
Juneau and Aruba - sorry about your loses. I hope it gives you comfort in knowing their are two more Angels in Heaven.
Momof3 - I will be watching for your good news this afternoon.
You ladies are funny about your hockey. I've never watched a game but I hope your favorites win!
Sorry about Angelina. Maybe she will join us. We would welcome her to reality. Bet she is glad to be in the USA and not one of her 3rd world countries. Wish her well. Maybe she will help raise money for the cure!
2FriedEggs - where are you?
We are taking off in the next few days. Home has been nice.
Websister - hope you are feeling better.
Iatigger - congrats on your squishies.0 -
Ramols, you are so right!!! Would someone amputate a leg because they may somewhere down the line break it? I'm angered because she is getting more limelight and praise. Personally, she pisses me off to begin with lol. I mean what is with those lips??? And all those kids? Why not adopt one from her own country that needs a home. Lots of them in North America needing loving nannies to care for them. I bet she just had a boob job because hers were getting old and saggy ;-) plus she doesn't have all the scars (physical and emotional) that we have had to deal with because if our disease.
LOL WOW!!!! Am I ever catty today. Think if I go to pre-k and hug random kids the teacher will call the police on me?
Believe, my team lost pathetically last night. They had a 4-1 lead, everyone thought it was in the bag.... Alas not to be. Lost 5-4 in overtime!!! What a game tho. And there's always next year!!!0 -
i'm so pissed by this I actually just posted a comment on her ny times op ed piece. i've NEVER posted a comment on a times article. boy - i must be in a mood today. Maybe i should get back to focusing on work... I wrote this:
As a 38 year old mother of two young children who is currently undergoing treatment for stage II breast cancer - I'm all for raising awareness. But why is no one talking about the issue of breast amputation as an acceptable form of prevention? Seriously? In this day and age we can't figure out a way to prevent BC better than lopping off our breasts? Don't get me wrong - I opted to prophylactically remove my healthy breast when my diseased breast was removed, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. So I certainly don't fault Ms. Jolie for her decision (and to those of you judging her for her choice, until you've awoken in the middle of the night panicked by the thought that you might not be there to raise your children - keep your opinions to yourself please). But I just wish more of the money we raise every year for BC awareness would actually go towards prevention, treatment, and cure research.

Great post in the NY times...Money for CURE not treatment...
0 -
Well said ramols. I agree about the awareness part. We are all aware of it. Find a damn cure already!!!
0 -
Good job Ramols!
I agree with all of you. Find a cure. We all got the same generic treatment - fortunately it seems to work but where is the cure. I remember early on asking my MO if all the blood work was to see if the Cancer came back. She said there is no blood test for Cancer. They need to work on that too!0 -
Momof3 in your pockets.
Ramols, totally agree. They never give the whole story. From what I have heard is the majority of us dont have the braca gene so they are steering people wrong. How many people will get the test and think they are in the clear and wont do the basic mammos or self exams. Damn media!0 -
So right iatigger. They should publish THOSE statistics and raise awareness about it!!
SBE and mammos are still the best defence we have right now. And even the mammo isn't reliable. I found my lump and THREE of them and TWO ultrasound and 4 out of 6 biopsies said not cancer. I went almost 3 years thinking this thing growing in my breast was clean.
I am brca - so is my mom and my aunt. All of us battled BC. If it weren't for me demanding to be checked and monitored so often I do believe it would have killed me0 -
I just googled it. Inherited BRCA gene mutations are responsible for about 5 percent of breast cancers and about 10 to 15 percent of ovarian cancers. From the mayo clinic web page.
So 95 % of us have no gene and got it anyway.0 -
http://www.salon.com/2013/05/14/angelina_jolies_choice_need_not_be_yours/
Sorry gang, my butt still burning on this topic, this article says what all of them should be saying.0 -
Shianne, you are so funny re Angelina - LOLLOLLOLLOL!!! She's never been a favorite of mine either. The lips, all the kids, stealing Jennifer's husband - I get it. Catty? Probably. In my case it's sheer jealousy - NOT. She had an 87% chance of getting bc, her mom, grandmother and aunt died from cancer, and all had the BRCA gene. I would probably also have had the BMX . . . but so totally agree about more money going towards a CURE!!!! AJ is still more prone to other cancers because of the gene, so will have the same sword hanging over her head that we all have. None of us are out of the woods, but neither is she, and we all have to learn to live with that reality. Maybe she'll be done with having kids now - LOL.
Ramols, I'll be in your pocket on May 31, probably with drains still hanging off me, but I'll be there. I hope and pray that it is nothing serious. Hugs to you!
Everybody, thanks for the good wishes re surgery. By this time next Tuesday I will hopefully have a new boob, and a flat tummy - LOL.
0 -
Liefie LMAO Ya, not jealous either. I thought the same thing about other cancers, so she is going to take the 50% chance on ovarian cancer? Did she have a hysterectomy? That procedure isn't as trendy I guess
0 -
I read that she was told that she had an 87% chance of getting breast cancer and 50% chance of getting ovarian cancer so chose to deal with the breast cancer issue first. They said she implied that she would be tending to the ovarian risk next.
Ramols - great comment, good for you.
Momof3 - in your pockets also
My pockets parties will be tomorrow afternoon for an abdominal ultrasound - the next morning for a bone scan. I'm not expecting to hear any results until after the long weekend but will enjoy all of my sisters company for the procedures.0 -
Websister, Angie will be smart to have the ovaries removed too. I would certainly not take that 50% risk - it's way too high. She has 6 children who will need her for along time, so not much of a choice there.
Momof3, that first mammogram post treatment is nerve-wrecking - in your pocket for that, but I believe you will be fine.
Websister, glad your sister will be accompanying you. We'll be singing/cheerleading in your pockets twice this week. Anyone play the guitar? Please bring it along! I'll bring the drums . . . and coconut cupcakes. Scottiee wouldn't mind - it's a special occasion.
0 -
make room in websisters pockets for me! My pocket party might be sooner and split up. Seems my MO is pushing to have the spine/neck scan done before my appt with her next wed and then they'll see if they can squeeze in the shoulder one another day but that might have to wait til the end of the month. And btw - for anyone who had rads - do yourselves a favor and don't google radiation induced brachial plexus injury. I promised myself I wouldn't but I couldn't help it. I only looked for a minute and then slapped my hands and clicked close.

I'm in for all pocket parties with chocolate chip cookies and a radio! Be sure to let the technicians we only accept good news:-)

Jumping in all pockets for today and future.
Been so busy, at home and work - but want to jump on the AJ conversation. Sharon Osborne also had a dbl mx for the same reason. And the reason they are up and about in a couple of days is because there were no lymph nodes involved - for them its just like a boob job. And yes its very fucking annoying that its being portrayed as an attractive option - WTF ? Ramols, great piece.
Well we are off to the Rockies with the Outlaws tomorrow - back on Monday. No computer access - so remember to take me on any pocket parties. Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend.
Love ya ladies xxxxxxxxx

Ramols, hope you get those scans sooner rather than later - more pocket parties! Yes, Believe, only good news, otherwise we'll get out of those pockets, and we are an unpredictable bunch - lol.
0 -
Liefie - glad you didn't say you were bringing the organ . Chocolate chip cookies and coconut cupcakes, this is sounding very good - I have to fast for six hours prior to the ultrasound so they will be welcomed!
Ramols - I hope they are able to move up at least the spine/neck scan for you - fingers crossed
Tazzy - have a great super long weekend with your outlaws
Believe - I'll be sure to relay your message to my techs0 -
Just a quick update that everything was normal for me today!!!!!!! Thanks everyone for being in my pockets. They were really full and I felt the love and support as I sat there waiting. I don't have to return for 3 months when I have a MRI.
I am in all pockets tomorrow for everyone. I will find some sort of snack to bring with me.0 -
Yayyyy Momof3!!!!! That is great news!!!
