There is a book out about "Oscar."  I read it several years ago, very interesting story.  Our daughter's dog kept licking a spot on my DH's head.  A spot I had been after him about for several years.  It finally got real nasty looking and our daughter made a comment about feeling sorry for anyone who had to sit behind him on the subway.  Yup, he had basal cell carcinoma.  The dog never picked up my cancer.  She does prefer men over women though. lol

    http://nocamels.com/2012/12/israeli-technology-turns-tumors-into-ice-balls-to-cure-cancer/

This article is about freezing cancer cells. It's in very early research. But it's very cool, er duh LOL. The ramifications are huge if it works. Now we all know what system wide damage chemo does. We know what system wide damage external radiation does.

Radiofrequency internal abalation, heat therapy started in mid 90's in research, has been used in so many problems b/c it is localized treatment that burns tissue that is defective. RAB is advancing very fast b/c of it's localised effect versus systemic. Have read that RAB is already being used during surgery to kill surrounding tissue that may have cells missed by excision, versus a post surgical or mets scenario.

Cryo(freezing) therapy is already used for the cervix(70's), and nerve destruction(late80's?, definitely90's), skin tumors, so, to stretch it to other tumors, is not a far stretch. It's one of those things that researchers are likely thumping their heads about and saying "Why didn't we think of this sooner". It too would have a local versus systemic affect.

Went on to read many more articles re:animal detection. The research industry is just as much a hoot about new scientific discovery now as it has been documented throughout all of known history. It ranges from the naysayers to those seeking new answers. The hoot of it is a scientist is supposed to have an open mind to possibilities. Not all humans have that. That's okay, we all have our own skills. But a closed minded scientist.sheesh and they went into science because of?

The point of this post is to get a rollcall of who's had the experience. In the mean time I'll figuire out who to contact with an eventual goal to send them an email, to see if we can't spark an interest. Once tried to do a similar thing on the HOTFLASH FORUM. It fell by the wayside b/c I went into a depression over something related to BC. But at least the researcher had something new to research. In the HF forum  I would summarize what we had in common and trends, and compare it to what was known in current research and what we all were expressing. What was cool, was we identified that each had an AURA before a flash. The AURA was not the same, but most had a signal that a flash was going to start. THAT HAD NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED IN ANY RESEARCH TO DATE. The Wayne State University researcher Freedman that was the leading researcher for 25 + years in USA and world, at least he was made known of what we found in our little group. Anyone wanting to look at the progress we made in that time can follow the link when I add it. I'll have to see where I stopped analysing. Edit :stopped at pg 24.

    http://community.breastcancer.org/topic_post?forum_id=78&id=770796&page=1

BUT don't post yetdate below.  Questions still gelling. It'll sound like. Your location i.e Country/state/province. Type of animal--dog /cat. Breed. Age of animal. First noticed behavior x amount of time before diagnosis. What was the behavior.

If anyone can think of a question either post it or PM.

The survey will be scheduled May22nd at  8pm-9pm EST. That will allow Shells and west coast gals time to do it without  trouble. So, we can get the survey questions in a connected group of postings. With a request to not post other things in that time. I will make the survey & post it the day before. Then each can cut and paste to the post box, fill in the answers. And were done.

There are some people called super smellers. Maybe daughter could see who's doing that research and contact them.

There's a book, "I Heard the Owl Call My Name" about a priest in a native village in Alaska. The tribe believes that they hear an owl call their name before they die. Wonderful book.

I hope there's a kitty in my life when I pass. I would find it very comforting. I miss my kitty so much. She had cancer and was euthanized the day we decided I needed the mastectomy.

Wren, thank you for the keywords, The link below lists the top ten super________, but smell is not one. Taste, hearing(echolocation), photgraphic memory, perfect pitch.

    http://listverse.com/2008/06/28/9-extraordinary-human-abilities/

This is an anecdotal article that refers to an area VNO--Vomeronasal Organ, it at least gives a starting point for research.

    http://www.jawsurgeryblog.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3495

Another article talking about VNO, whats interesting is after reading about all the animal articles and the research . Not one article referred to VNO as the source of the ability. So, while this article is informative as to why dogs sniff, if you've read any of the other articles related to the question of ability of animals to detect cancer, VNO should have been discussed b/c they were for the most part evidence based research(EBR) articles. Small point, but EBR is big on those small details. VNO is common to animals and humans, but devolved in humans

Granny, it's funny how things work. On your homework list was to google Mutiple Chemical Sensitivities. Well the search today on dogs& cats detecting cancer by smell, wlead to Ducky writing of her daughter detecting a change in breath smell on three people, lead to Wren using the phrase "Supersmeller", that lead to VNO, that lead to Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. We don't yet know your lavendar results, BUT we talked that if lavendar wasn't the culprit, you still have to be Sherlock b/c of the rest of your environment.

Marywhere, I'd need to do ground, won't risk a plane. Coming from florida :) Ya'll could come to Florida? LOL. Could do a cruise. There MAGNIFICENT to allow for talking time, which is the focus of what we want. OUR DEAR DANA is already versed in how to do them.  And could find the cheapest rates.

There are misissippi river boat cruises, That would put meeting point in the middle?????

I got the wifely duties comment and the innuendo. My wifely duties were feeding my DH prunes so he could poop today (oops - did I just share that???!!!!) Cheveretta has been married to DH for a long time, so maybe that's what she was referring to. I enjoyed not having wifely duties for the past week, but we are happy to be together again - it's true love and we missed each other. Maybe I have dementia, too.

Yay, Yay and more Yay for Princess K!! Bad Lavender. Bad bad bad. Leave PK ALONE.

Sassy, where the H have you been - you scare me when you stay up all night honeybun, then we don't hear from you for 24 hours.

And who is our Zephyrgirl? I've got Dana on my radar, and her daughter and niece coming to Hawaii soon. I'm still not in the groove, yet, so be patient with me girls and I'll be responsive real soon. Just want to misbehave for awhile.

Chevygirl - I'll get back to you real soon Sweet Pea, I need to go back and look at last semester's notes.

I think it would be good if one of us could contact Shaneoak and update the first post with everyone's treatment schedule. I want to know who is having chemo, what days, when it ends, radiation, etc just by looking. I would keep it updated if we can figure out how to do it. You Hooligals could email me with the info and then we would all know where Blondie, Cammi, Dana, Veggy, Mary, Wren, Princess K, Sassy, Esther, Phyllamina and all our sisters are doing what & when.

Shaneoaks  - see what you started? Are you listening?!! You are a ROCK Star - your thread has saved me from, er, not sure what but something serious.

Had a good visit with my sleep doctor. When I started having issues, she wanted to "SEE" me to see my SEs.  She took one look at me and I said (with wide open eyes), "I don't fall asleep at my keyboard anymore!"  - I put out my hands so she can see how shakey I was.

Sleep Doc: I think you shouldn't take the Nuvigil anymore. Let's see what we can do." - She brings out the drug interaction checker and reviewed all my meds and the ones I had bad reactions to in the past. She looked at me and said, "Have you tried trasodone before?  -

Me: It sounds familiar but don't see it on my "No way" list.

Sleep Doc: She looks at me again and says the smallest tablet I can get is 50mgs but it's got a scorebar to cut it in half.... silence....Well maybe not half - how about just a quarter?  And it also might help with your mood at the same time. Do you have any heart problems?"

Me: Only a t-wave abnormality, but heart is fine.

Sleep doc: Well, lets double check on that first - Do an EKG today and then you can go get your med. She has me taking a quarter of a pill half hour before bedtime.. -

Me: Ok... Oh while I'm here, (I showed her the over-swell in my arms) Do you think you can give me a script for a bit of Lymphedema Therapy?

Sleep Doc: Oh my what happened!!!???? You don't have LE in your arms usually? You have it in your breast - right?

Me: Since the PT, I started to swell a bit and now I can't keep it in control.. It has gone to my upper arms.

Sleep Doc: No problem, here's your script.

As I walk out she said to make an appt for 2 months but if things go badly, call me right back and we will get you in sooner.

She is a sweet doc and at least listens to me.. EKG came back - normal sinus rhythm and I take my first trasodone tonight.

So used the c-card with dh today and talked him into screening in my back deck...Yay!!! Told him I needed to be outside, and cant stand the bugs. Of course thanks to chemo over the years I am now allergic to most bug bites. Really allergic, so much I have to carry an epi-pin around at all times. Weird thing about it is mesquitos wont touch me. Must give off that chemical smell or something. But anyway, I am so excited. The guys coming to give us an estimate by Weds, so that means Ill have a project for this month. Have to pick out new deck furniture. I didnt know it was so frigging expensive though...even at Lowes and h.d. Oh well, its only money, right? I would be up for a cruise, but since there are those of us that dont fly, wonder how we could work that out. I really think we should try to do this though, It would be a blast. I dont care where we go. I can fly some where as long as its not any longer than about 4 hours.
