Sbel, you are one brave woman. I second the motion of getting it all done this year! I squeezed in a colonoscopy--so did hubs--before his new insurance kicked in. I also relate to the recliner. Ugh, this tailbone thing is painful. I am writing this at Starbucks while half laying on my side in a comfy chair. Thanks for the ice pack idea. It is softer and at least bearable to sit on from time to time. I will be thinking of you and praying for no infection! I don't know if it's on Netflix, but we think So I Married an Axe Murderer is entertaining. Princess Bride, too. Cheesy is good sometimes.

Sbelizabeth, I decided to get cataracts taken care of this year because next year is going to be a copay/check ups only year. I'm standing firm on no meeting the deductible or out of pocket expenses again. I'd rather spend the money on the vacation I missed this summer!

    too right, gwennie!

sbe...aren't you a little secret keeper! Hammertoe sx.....ouch! Can you fit a stiletto heel on that boot, for a little fashion statement??? Hope the secret sauce does the trick for you. Aren't you supposed to be spending quality time in the hamster tube??? I'm very confused, it seems on what's going on.

jeannie....keep that butt on ice....I bet you're getting pretty colourful by now!

teacher....yep....I agree....I've decided to never ever again have any need for sutures, anesthetic, etc.....I'm sooooo done with it all, but very happy with the results. Just a small fat grafting session booked for next month, then the wait for a tattoo. After that.....if someone wants to "doctor me".....they're going to have to catch me first.

Nihahi - I'm committed to several more surgeries down the road. In about 5 years my pacemaker will need a new battery. Then I plan to make two more replacements 10 and 20 years later! I love my steadily beating heart and want to keep it going strong and long!

Bailey, so good to hear your dad is up and walking. Wishing him progressive healing.

Sbe, you have sure had your share of surgeries. I'm sure you are looking forward to wearing cute shoes again.

Welcome Marty and Teacher!  I also have left the 2014 message board to the new crew. Can't seem to let go of message boards completely, though. These ladies are too special.

Jeannie, Happy Boobiversary!  Wilbur sure has been active in his short one year of life.

Niihahi, the hideous post-op shoe I'm currently wearing is more Frankenstein-boot than stiletto.  But I have been assured I'll be back in my favs in a couple of months!  The hamster tube was just for a week, after the cellulitis incident.  I'm getting pretty much fed up with needles and anesthesia and hospitals...probably one more surgery this year on my radiation burn and then, please, I'll be finished, out-of-pocket maximum paid and done.

Teacher, you're in good company here. Welcome to the flappers!

Bailey, thrilled your dad is making progress.  Every inch of it is cause for celebration.

Jeannie, sorry you're still aching.  I'm still black and blue from the bike crash, and in fact, I asked my podiatrist if we should postpone (AGAIN).  He said no, you can just be gimpy from both the surgery and the crash.  Feel better soon!

    FBB, ((((hugs)))).

hi everyone!! I posted over in the DIEP 2013 thread and was told many of you are over here.

Not sure if anyone remembers me (I used to have the hot pink tennis shoes as my avatar). I had my DIEP in Nov 2013. I started chemo at the end of December 2013. Finished that up in April and finished 36 rads at the beginning of July. I'm having a small phase 2 next week. Then in a couple of months will have a bigger Phase 2 (or phase2b - not sure how to number these puppies).

Welcome to the after-the-flap side, RHG!  I do remember your pink shoes, and I love the photo of the new pink ones here.  There's just SOMETHING about new shoes.  Love, love, love them.

This will make some of you laugh.  Some of us have spoken to groups about BC and our own journeys--as some of you remember, I happened to have an old high school buddy grow up to be a feature reporter at a newspaper, and she published a collection of articles about my BC diagnosis and treatment, ending with the revision surgery after the DIEP.

Well, when I had my hammertoe fixed at a small surgicenter Friday, my pre-op nurse said hey, I know you, didn't you have BC and were in the paper and stuff?  I said yes and offered to show her the latest "surgical artwork."  Pretty soon all the pre-op nurses were in my room getting a look at what a nice DIEP looks like.  They were amazed--most of them didn't know about flap-type recon--they thought breast recon involved implants all the time.

Ambassadors for a cause, anywhere, anytime!

We have Aubrey this afternoon while her tired mom and dad get a Sunday afternoon nap.  Or at least Jerry has her, while I ice and elevate the sore toe.  Her birthday is coming up the end of the month--can you believe she's almost a year old?

    Happy Sunday, everyone!

I find out about stage 2 today and get to enjoy lunch with a friend. Tomorrow is lunch with a friend, as is Thursday. I also have three outfits to make for my twin grandgirls because they start school this year. This nana thinks they need to be dressed like the cute little girls they are. It's so worth seeing them beam over their new clothes made just for them. Guess you can tell, I'm not doing any compulsive cleaning before #2. Happy

Teacher--my twin boys were grade-schoolers when the wild, neon "jams" were in style.  They were a snap to make, so we would go to the fabric store together and they would choose what they liked for their jams.  What delightful memories your post provided me!

Good to see you here, teacher. Always enjoy reading your posts on the 2014 thread.

LiLi-RI and  enjoyevrymoment  and RHG welcome!

I am sure you had a great visit with Aubrey, sbe (or Jerry had). Hope you lose that boot soon.

Candles of love, what a neat arrangement, zen.

"STRONGER THAN YOU SEEM" is my fav, Gwenny.

    Long time no see, Sharon.

Where did you find that bluebird candle holder, Ridley? I want to get one too.

The tennis team I captain clinched our division at yesterday's match (3-2). I won my singles. We will be in the playoff next week. Wish us luck, flapper sisters!

Cross the states hugs, FBB. ((((((((FBB))))))))

    Happy Monday to all.

Morningsun, how thoughtful of you to respond to everyone specifically. It seems too much for my brain to handle. I, too, welcome everyone new here! I am not surprised Wilbur likes chocolate. He did mention "dibs" in my post which sounds like chocolate to me.

My parents are very hurt and mad at me today. They called to say they were moving back to their old town and I told them I could not support them and told them why. My two brothers then had the same conversation with them but they are upset with me. This is so heart-wrenching. My son-in-law took a spill on his motorcycle and has scrapes and bruises. Thank God his helmet protected him. On the good side, hubs' company cancelled their week-long leadership strategy meeting at an exclusive resort in the mts. because a wildfire is just six miles away, heading in their direction. I'm glad they will be safe here now and I can snuggle hubs at night while I sleep! Besides, I have always wanted to go that resort with him! I pray the brave firefighters will be safe and can put these fires OUT.

Off to the food bank today for as long as my sore butt allows!

Jeannie, I forgot all about our one year anniversary.  Happy anniversary!  I hope you and sbe are changing back from black and blue.  Bailey, so happy to hear your dad is making progress.  We did a quick Michigan vacation last week.  I missed you all!  Great to see some old names popping up.  FBB, here we are.  All of us around the world with our candles lit to let you know you are loved.

Grrrrrrr.......growling at life today. I scanned the posts from the last few days and I think some of you might join me in a good growl!

Hugs to them that needs it. And prayers, too.

So, last Thursday after all the excitement of my dad getting up and walking, and after everyone left the house in Mexico, my little mom had a diabetic reaction and my dad couldn't get her out of it and had to call for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. It's a long story, I'll spare you the details, but my sister and I and our husbands made the decision to send my husband down to Mexico first thing Saturday morning to stay with them and fly back to Michigan with them tomorrow.

They are doing fine now, fortunately, and are very happy for his presence and help.

BB I loved your last post!

FBB....I too have a candle I light for you, so now you have one more in the Midwest, sister.

Love to all! Will be a busy few days getting parents home and settled and we are out of town with friends this weekend. Catch y'all next week.

Oh, Bailey!  Is this move permanent, or just until they can get past this rough spot?  Bless your husby for being there for them.

Movie, thinking about you and praying for you and your mom.  I know these are challenging days.

FBB, the candle's in the window and all of us have our arms around you.

On the home front...all my boo-boo's are better.  The bike crash Technicolor is fading and I saw my podiatrist this afternoon for a dressing change; the toe is straight and lovely.  But no pedicures for a month!  Do they do half-price deals for just the one foot?

Thanks Sbel, the trip to Mexico by my parents was just for the repair surgery. They were already scheduled to come home to Michigan tomorrow. My husband's trip to Mexico from last Saturday until tomorrow was not planned ahead but worked out just right for everyone.

You crack me up....I definitely think you should get a half price deal!!! But I'm kind of partial to amputees.

Rest rest rest you crazy girl.

sbelizabeth - one pretty foot should be half price! Last year I had my big toe joints fused due to arthritis (now walking pain free) but couldn't have a pedi for three months! It seemed forever. Last week I got my toes "prettified" for stage 2. Since 100 degree days are here, I went Red Hot.

Teacher, all of us seem to want pretty toes before surgery.  There's just something about the happy, cherry red toes peeping out--they say "I'm not in this hospital bed for long, I have sexy, exciting things to do!"

There's a spa in my town that does pedicures in a zero-gravity chair; no bubbling water spa char is involved, which suits me fine.  I'm leery of the cleanliness of the tubs in the spa chairs, and with all the chemo, low blood counts, infections, cellulitis, bla, bla...I want my pedicure to be squeaky clean.  The zero-gravity chair pedi includes a down pillow for your head, warmed blankets and a heated buckwheat neck wrap, and an awesome foot/leg scrub and massage with a hot paraffin mask.

Hoo, boy.  All of you come on over and we'll have a spa day.  I'll leave the sutured-up toe at home.

Jeannie - Maybe the reason your folks are mad at you, rather than you brothers, is that they value your opinion and approval the most. Sometimes is really sucks being the responsible one.
