Sitting here with my second cup of morning coffee - so addicted - lol.

Jeannie, good for you on writing that letter - what the heck is wrong with these people? Celebrating bc? Wow. I know it's not meant like that, but WOW - the insensitivity is just unbelievable?!

Movie, I'm waiting for a pm from you. It better be good news!

Marty, the deer ate our rose garden this year to the point that we are considering to rip it all out, and just pave the area. There are about 60 rose bushes. They first ate the flowers, then proceeded to strip off all the leaves despite all DH's anti-deer measures, stinky spray-on concoctions, water sprayers activated by movement, etc. etc. Only the empty stalks remain, and it looks terrible. Maybe we should plant hydrangeas there - they did not eat those, but who knows? Maybe they will crave that next year? LOL.

JBloom, I like pink too. Such a pity that it's been hijacked by the Pinktober madness, but it suits me, and I will still wear it. Planning to meet Nihahi on Friday for the first time in a pink outfit with my nails painted shocking pink just to see her reaction . . . she will have to be polite, right?

Bailey, your Vegas nails sound beautiful. For my DS wedding I'm planning to paint my toenails an electric royal blue with sparkles - why not? Enjoy Vegas - love that place. You don't have to pay a lot to see one of the shows. You can just sit on the street and watch. It is better than any show, I found. There is no other place on earth like Vegas, I'm sure.

Tracy, good for you on the exercise!

Okay, breakfast, then yoga, strength training, then cardio. Then I have to sew a baby blanket for DD - want to surprise her with it this weekend. Better get movin'!

Liefie - the deer love hydrangeas, too. My dh put up an electric fence (very light shock), but they are really smart critters and know how to hop it, how to avoid it and when it is not working.

Hi everyone. Being off for a few days but kept up the reading, I think. Marty, do you play duplicates? I am addicted to it, but I only have a little over 100 points. I have a ProAm game tonight for an Alzheimer's fundraising event this evening. Tracy and liefie, I like red, but pink is said to be shade of red, so I like it too. Same as movie, October is a tough one for me. Last year, I received my problem mammo results on Oct. 2, had the needle biopsy on Oct. 17 and got a call from a nurse on Oct. 19 while I was at work: "you've got BC..." Now I am here trying to move on.

Gardening reminds me too much of the long days when I worked in the crop fields, I love tennis, bridge, and, origami. I try to make myself walk the 10000 steps by the help of the fitbit thingy. So far so good. My sewing goes as far as shortening my t-shirts/pants (somehow all t-shirts and commfy pants were made for tall people). Your sewing project sounds like so much fun, marty.

It turns out the PT I've been seeing for the past couple of months IS a Lymphedema specialist. It took me this long to figure it out, because I had mostly joints and soft tissue works done by her and her assistants. During our last session, I told her that I might have found my calling: become a PT who works in her field. Three years of schooling... nay, not happening.

nihahi and movie, glad family members' issues are working out. Have good ones!

Oh, bailey, I thought Sheila likes tequila....

bam...bam...bam....sound of me banging head against wall at liefie's threat of "pinking" our rendezvous!!!! The great thing about being a grey-haired old lady.....I could walk up to her and completely freak out...people would just think "granny needs more meds!!!!) hahahahahaha.

fredntan....hope you didn't fall off the elliptical while typing!!!! I can barely manage to blow my nose without serious potential disaster when I'm running on the treadmill!!!!

hey tammy.....did you wave to Jamestown on the weekend???? My OT "ed" was 4years plus 2summers of university. (OT's also work in Pysch settings, so you train for that area too). If you really want to do something along that line...maybe you could look into being a PT aide??? I'm sure it's a shorter program.

Did my condo gym thing this morning...now gotta get busy with some house stuff then errands into the city this afternoon.

Jeannie - I'm movin to your house!

Tammy - I have played duplicate, but not for points. I play "new" bridge and so many of the folks who play dup where I live only play old. My regular group started together. We have 13 regulars and 15 subs (they like us & keep volunteering). We just play 4 hand rotations. Some of us are still in classes and others not.

Bummer - I am remaking the dress for tomorrow's dinner. Just didn't love it in the fabric. Revising the sizing, too. Such fun!!! Not.

jeannie, I have to say that your garden looks nothing like the corn fields, wheat fields, potato fields and bean fields... and countless other fields that I worked on back when I was younger... beautiful! tanner knows he is getting his picture taking! Jamestown NY, I waved to it and forgot how to play my hands and I only got .65 points the entire weekend :-(

Who knows, when I retire in 5 years (60), I might be posting on the DIEP 2013 as the resident PTA....

What is the "new" bridge? I am a ACBL member. We try to win points at the sanctioned event to become "Life Masters" :-)

Jeannie, your garden is like a beautiful oasis of calmth and serenity - wow! Wish DH could take few lessons from you - shhhh - don't tell him I said so - LOL. Tanner really cute too.

Marty, it seems paving the rosegarden is the only option that remains - sigh. Guess the only reason we still have the hydrangeas is because the deer obviously prefer roses - lol. Remaking the dress? That is what I call dedication and perseverance. Hope it comes out 100% this time.

So my future DIL arrived in South Africa safe and sound yesterday, but the airline lost her big suitcase. In it she had packed everything for her honeymoon, all the gifts that she bought for her family, and . . . all the wedding invitations she was going to mail out there this week. Johannesburg International airport is notorious for stealing luggage, and I'm hoping and praying that the bag did not make the connecting flight in London, and will still arrive. Oh my goodness. - what a mess!

Okay, now I'm going to iron my pink outfit for tomorrow. Will bring some Xanax to calm Nihahi down before she hurts herself. Movie, I will instruct DH to take photos of the encounter - LOL!

Bailey - now buy a lottery ticket, quickly!!!

Tammy - you are playing new bridge. Old bridge is usually rubber bridge and a lot of the conventions we play aren't in their vocab. I tried duplicate with an old bridge player and tried to explain Stayman and Jacobi. Whooooosh - right over her head. I am definitely not ready to play for points yet.

Re the dress - mess - It really is 4 seams (all straight) plus hemming. Soooo simple, but aggravating. I hope to post if I ever finish. The underdress is really wonderful. I can see making it for a summery sundress. Told DH I am done with the extra bedroom with the sofa bed. Gonna move it to the office and dismantle the desks (we don't use them anyway). Then turn the extra bedroom into my sewing room.

Now, if only the little alligators would move on. We now have 2 tiny guys - 3 - 4 ft. Yuck!

Thanks for the compliments. (blushing) I could inundate you with photos...but won't. The only labor intensive times in my garden are spring and fall cleanup. I will have about a trillion leaves fall in my yard. Oopsie! I'm having surgery and can't rake them....

Bailey, I will be jealously thinking of you this weekend!

Liefie, wow, I sure hope that luggage shows up!

Marty, good luck with that dress! And those alligators---yikes!

I can hardly wait to see a pink photo of Liefie with Nihahi....

Alligators? Don't let Nihahi see this . . . My sister once discovered a young one in her house. When she ran to the telephone, the creature ran and hid behind the chest that the phone was on, and she was too afraid to go closer. She waited outside till her husband came home to remove it. LOL.

Just heard that the (baby pink!!) suitcase had arrived safely - phew!!

hello all -- I'm just seeing this thread now -- I tend to pop in and out from this community (no reason, just life's busy-ness :) so my apologies that I haven't read the whole thread just yet…

Jeannie, wow! What a gorgeous oasis you've created. We just moved to a new home, and there are several projects in line ahead of our garden – though I think my wife just might make a new fence happen anyway!

I will try to catch up; I could use a little motivation to help the rest of my body catch up to my flat belly. :) Likely having my stage 2 in Dec or Jan -- I'm 7 months post-DIEP (and having lots of sensations that feel like a tiny fish in my belly, which my PA says are nerves regrowing. Freaky!) and finally back to crunches. Around the time Dr. Carty cleared me for core exercise, I threw out my back, alas. But I'm back in action and hoping to get into great shape. :)

    Tracy- 8weeks-CELEBRATION

Jeannie- Your garden looks like a picture from a magazine. Absolutely beautiful. Love it. Too much work for me, but I do appreciate them. I love Tanner. I think I will move in with you too!

Hoping for MRI results tomorrow. I am totally expecting good news. My son is coming in for the weekend and then I leave for VA to see my grand baby. Tomorrow is my last be of being 58! Damn!

October was always my favorite month of the year, but all of my dx and results have always been in October. That is why I call it bittersweet.

Cherrie-- happy early birthday! I'm just a few days after you. Libras rule!! VA has been wet and crummy these past few days....bring some sunshine when you visit! :)

Jeannie-- can I borrow you for my yard?? It's gorgeous!

I inherited a ton of landscaping from the previous owner that lived here for 34 years. Lets just say some of the choices she's made baffle me -- like planting a million hostas around the yards. The deer LOVE them! I wish I could enjoy gardening as much as some of you...but I'm always wishing for things to die die die (weeds, bugs, spiders, etc.). My hubby cracks up when he hears "ew ew ew" from me all the time when I run across a worm.

I'm definitely missin a bunch of you, but I'm trying to catch up with lurkin'! Cheers ladies!

Just so you all know.....alligators have legs....I'm fine with them...so there!

marty...just to be clear....the alligators are not in the second bedroom, right???? I've got some bear spray you could use, but I need to keep it until after the weekend, as I'm hiking. And all the bridge talk....WHOOOOOOSHHHHHH!!!!!!!

liefie...pack a sweater, there's some snow mixed in with rain here tonight....there is more snow in Calgary and areas west. Glad to hear the suitcase arrived....the start of many wedding "stories" no doubt! "Pink me not" tomorrow!!!!!!

sweet....the air here is too dry, but if I could grow one houseplant for scent, it would be gardenias. Absolutely heavenly, but can be tricky to grow indoors. They were my Mom's favourite flower, and Dad always gave her a gardenia for their "special days". Whenever I smell one now, I think of them.

jeannie....how do you keep the slugs from devouring your hostas and other yummy plants????

welcome emily.....this thread has a lot of "movers" and some just "starting to move" on it. You'll fit right in!

cherrie.....everything's crossed for you for tomorrow....I like your positive thinking! Bet you can't wait to see your son!

gardenia is my favorite flower too. My grandaddy was a genius at growing them! The last one I tried to grow outside died nut I was looking at african gardenias which can grow inside.

    happy birthday, Cherrie!

Believe it or not, deer have not chewed any of my plants--yet. We have high retaining walls in the back topped with low wire fencing, but they could get in if they wanted. They have chewed my neighbor's roses and I've seen whole families of deer in the front. Nihahi, the slugs weren't too bad this year. I do all kinds of things to get rid of them: beer traps, iron phosphate pellets in April and August, slug hunting at night/morning with a flashlight, with skewers or a spray of diluted rubbing alcohol. Even my DH skewers them. If you stick the skewer in the ground, they cannabalize each other. Such nasty creatures....By the way, one of my favorite sayings is, "Comparison is the thief of joy." You are right that we all experience pain differently and recover differently. Don't compare and judge yourself harshly!

Welcome, Emily! I love these ladies---you will, too.

Sweetpickle, you need a "warrior" necklace to wear or something....you deserve one! I am wishing my hardest that you will feel better sooner than later. I'm glad your boobs look so great!! As for fragrant indoor plants, there is a vine-like plant called a Hoya that has waxy, fragrant flowers periodically. Some Orchids are fragrant. I have an easy one called Sherry Baby that smells like chocolate! I agree with Nihahi that gardenias smell great but are hard to grow inside. Sometimes we get fragrant jasmine in the grocery stores here. Smells so good! It would probably be a temporary, throw away plant but that's okay. In the spring you can force fragrant bulbs like Paperwhites or Narcissus in the house. Even some daffodils are fragrant but they grow outside. That's all I can think of. Did you know many houseplants clean the air?? Proven scientific fact.

Cherrie......prayers for you tomorrow.......for a good outcome! Enjoy the time with your family.

Liefie, enjoy your chilly visit to Calgary......Nihahi will "warmly" welcome you, I am sure! (As long as there is NO pink ! ;D ) I will be seeing you next Thursday......Yay! Can't wait!

Nihahi, I understand your aversion to ....... legless reptiles.......I have an aversion to LARGE reptiles that move fast, and have very LARGE teeth.......and have a loooong body with shirt, stubby legs to match.....ugh! Terrifying! Give me a grizzly bear any day!

Jeannie, here's a question......what can I plant under ugly fir trees that won't up and die on me? I have no fir trees on my property, but neighbors have THREE on edge of property, and they kill everything I try to plant! :(

I just had my thyroid medication changed last week from armor to synthroid, and I am finally getting some energy back! Yay! Busy cleaning out my pantry tonight......DH is gluten free, so I have very little "real" flour in the house, and I am trying to stay away from "floury" stuff myself......combine that with expired "use by" dates......I now have a lot more room to put things (actually) away!

Have a great trip, Bailey! Remember what I told you........(about Vegas)

    Have good nights, Flappers!

    XO. Jackie
