RaiderGirl, you are so very wise and thoughtful. You're right. While it might seem like a good idea, we can't live like each day is our last day. I don't like green bananas, but I check the expiration date on everything.

SelenaWolf, I think you should get started on the horse _ _ _ _! I have the triple negative Stage IV "gift"? I am beginning to think that re-gifting is a good thing! The next person that ticks me off may get gifted!

I love it, RG! In John Irving's "Cider House Rules" the family tells each other "Keep passing the open windows" (i.e. "Don't jump out!"). BC folks can say "Keep buying green bananas!"

Dangit, just heard from a friend who was just diagnosed with Stage I and starts chemo tomorrow. Fock you, breast cancer.

LAstar, I am so sorry your friend will be joining the group. I hope her Side-A-F**ks are few! But I am sure you will be helping her along the way.

Hopeful, I want to second your remark: "Beachbum - Your situation is morally outrageous." I'm so sick of those politicians that fight health care advances and social programs for people in need. Heartless and amoral.

LAStar - thanks, and thank you for sharing the name of the shop in Corvallis. I hope your letter to the owner results in a rapid change of attitude.

Oh, and, not to get too political, but talk of repealing the ACA drives me nuts. Do any of those folks realize what it will mean to those with a dx. such as our, or millions of others with a pre-existing condition? Not just in terms of the ability to get coverage but there's also the issue of capping lifetime benefits which the ACA did away with and a little matter of many more procedures being basically free because they're treated as preventive (think colonoscopies). I will step down off my soap box now and let everyone else duke it out while I get back to work...

Your comments about all the "awareness" cracked me up...I was diagnosed Oct 2 and we headed to Vegas for a week right away before treatment began.  There was pink everywhere!  From black jack tables with pink ribbons to one guy who had his Mohawk spray painted pink with ribbons.  It became quite the joke since we were on vacation to try to be a little less aware!  At one point, we were in the Oakley store and they had some sunglasses being sold to "raise awareness".  My husband just looked at me and said "do you think you could get them for free since you're already really aware!"

Hi Ladies, I am looking for a job now because I need medical insurance. I am Stage IV and triple negative. And I will be going back to chemo. And working, fun fun! I should have COBRA right now but my employer made a little mistake when they laid me off. A very big, very expensive mistake for me. Whatever.............I am pretty sure that I am at the bottom of the bottom of the barrel. I can hardly wait to see how well this works out. So it's not going to be the job, but the insurance that seals the deal.

Kay:  totally agree with you!! Why are we the only first world country w/o universal health care??

Beachbum:  that totally sucks that your employer made a mistake. Is there any way to appeal it?? I hope you find a job and insurance soon.

Hi Glennie, I am just moving on from this point. I have enough on my plate to go backwards. I just hope I find something quick, and move on. Some days when life gives you lemons you learn to make a better lemonade! One foot at a time, one day at a time............

Kayb- I don't believe ACA will be repealed. They make allot of noise so that "adjustments" are made. I never expected the very first health care coverage program to be perfect from the start. My sister-in-law had not been able to get insurance for years and years because she has ulcerative colitis. No one would insure a person with that. Now for the first time she has coverage. The benefits are limited, the deductible is huge but she has something .

We are the only first world country without universal health care because we are the only country where most health insurance companies are traded in the stock market. Their obligation to protect the stockholders. They do that by limiting who they cover and how much they cover. The bottom line is that they must make a profit. Interesting enough they are still making a profit with ACA...how's that happening? maybe more people buying insurance, maybe hospital are getting less uninsured causing better rates to insurance companies. Maybe more control. I dont know and I dont care. I only know that no one should have to choose between their life or financial ruin.

I don't want this to hijack this thread to become a health care cost thread. So I will stop now. Hey some one start a thread about health care insurance.

Stupid comment of yesterday " If you continue to think of yourself as a bc patient you will attract more cancer" WTF!? You mean I can think the cancer away? Who knew? someone has the tell the medical community.

I can think it away? Yippee! I will think my bones cancer-free! I will think my liver cancer-free! I don't have to think my breasts cancer-free since they're gone.

Sigh. It would only work if my skull were brain-free.

So far, all I've gotten is the occasional "you have perky new boobs!", in which I say "I would much rather have my old, droopy ones anyday."

" If you continue to think of yourself as a bc patient you will attract more cancer" Absolutely, freaking unbelievable.

I guess thinking about it enough to go for mammograms is what caused the cancer? 'Cause it sure wasn't on my radar or list of personal concerns.

I know it's bad karma, but there are some people I WOULD wish this on.

There is a retort for this stupid comment....

" If you continue to think of yourself as a bc patient you will attract more cancer"

"The only think I continue to attract are dumb-a$$ comments like the one you just made. Buh-Bye"

Hi all, I'm new here and just couldn't help noticing I have a couple contributions to this thread.

Male friends of course laugh and tell me I should just get a double mastectomy and get the biggest tits they'll put in.

On another note, my first visit with a medical oncologist included her telling me "I have a problem with you recording this because I get self conscious and I stutter." Which is all well and good except THIS IS MY LIFE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. This is about me, not you. I couldn't care less about how comfortable YOU are.

(probably a little harsh but of all the doctors I've seen so far, that meeting was probably one of the most important, and it's the one where I left the most confused.)

not harsh at all, Andi,, it is YOUR life. Taping the meeting is a good idea, so you can review later for things that you didn't quite hear right.  As for your male friends,,, it is junk punch time.

Yep, my husband comes to every app't he can, AND we record every one (when they let us) - the MO app't was scheduled last minute and he couldn't get out of work.

Yep, similar to the " ... if you worry too much about recurrence, then it will happen and THEN what will you do ... " comments.

    ?!?!?

Newsflash everyone!!! We can think ourselves into cancer, we can think ourselves out of cancer. Who the f--k knew? Quick! Everyone THINK!!!! Think HARD!!!!

" If you continue to think of yourself as a bc patient you will attract more cancer"

I guess I am a very bad person, but my first reaction to reading this stupid comment was that if it was said to me, I would narrow my eyes - like I had x ray vision and stare straight at that person's chest without saying a word...... let them begin to wonder - why should my power be confined to attracting cancer only to me?????
