What do you want from your caregiver(s) after being diagnosed?
November is National Family Caregivers Month. We thought it might a good idea to share here what you might want from your caregiver(s) so they know how to best support you through your breast cancer experience. So, what are you looking for from your caregiver(s)? Information, emotional support, help with daily tasks,…

Long term "high oncotype test" survivors
Is there any long term survivors who have had a high oncotype score. I know that this test is relatively new but I also know that it has been on the market at least 4 years. So I know that "long term" regarding this test isn't very long term. I had it done 3 years and 4 months ago. My oncotype score was 52. My onc told me…

FES PET/CT scan insurance coverage
Has anyone with traditional Medicare had a FES PET/CT scan? I can’t get a definitive answer on payment for the procedure from either the hospital or CMS. Both say that an FDG PET/CT is covered so the answer is “probably.” Given the cost (more than FDG) I’m worried about having it done without knowing for sure. After two…

Complex ADH with greater chance of surgical upgrade ANYONE?!?!
So my story has been long and drawn out and I just dont know what to think or do. 2 years ago, found a lump. Dx mammo/us determine "mildly irregular anechoic cyst". Lump never leaves. No follow up other than annual well womens visit. 7 months ago, nipple discharge near lump. Go see OBGYN and he blows it off as hormonal and…

Risk of discontinuing tamoxifen
I have read several reports from others that noted that their medical oncologist gave them a percentage benefit from tamoxifen (or AI’s). When I asked my MO she would not provide me with this type of information. Can anyone tell me where this type of information would come from? I want to be prepared for my next…

New Here. What to Expect w/ Paclitaxel + Trastuzumab?
Hello, all. I just joined this forum and am looking for some support. I'm a post-menopausal woman who was diagnosed with ES+/PR+/HER2 + invasive ductal carcinoma this summer. I had a lumpectomy on October 31. Clearly I got the trick not the treat… bah! Anyway, I am fortunate to have had very good outcomes from the surgery:…

I’ve been down this road before…trying not to panic
A brief backstory, I found this forum a long time ago in the mid 2000s back when my mom was diagnosed. I lurked all the time and am pretty sure I had an account but it’s been over a decade and I don’t remember any credentials so new account it is. 😊 I must say I am grateful this great forum still exists after all this…

Wish you still had cancer?
Is it common to have the thought that i wouldn't care too much if i had a recurrence? That i want to stop my meds? Does anyone ever think this? Is it weird to bring up? I've been looking at my life since diagnosis, treatment, remission, and daily preventive maintenance. Maybe treatment and losing my hair was much easier…

Will 30% of Early Stage (1-IIIA) go on to metastasize??
So I started this question in another thread but was hoping for additional feedback. With MBC awareness day last weekend, a stat is going around that caught my attention. Basically says that 30% of early stage BC patients will eventually have their bc metastasize AFTER adjuvant treatment. Susan G. Komen even states it here…

decisions to be made--DCIS suspicious for microinvasion
Hi everyone, This is my first time posting. I have a DCIS (grade 3 ER+ PR+) diagnosis and am kind of stuck between having a mastectomy or trying cryoablation first. In order to make that decision, I am trying to figure out how to make sense of my likelihood of being upstaged at surgery. One sticking point is microinvasion.…

Just received my Pet Scan results
Hi everyone, I have unfortunately been on this site for 9 years now. Diagnosed with early stage in 2015. Then had a recurrence in 2022. Yesterday I had a follow up Pet scan and the indication says "New hypermetabolic abdominal, pelvic, and thoracic lymphadenopathy, presumably reflecting metastatic disease." I briefly spoke…

Bilateral mastectomy and they missed the biopsy clip
Hello, I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction implants for triple negative breast cancer on Ictober 21,2024. Pathology revealed no cancer in the limp nodes 😀but they did not find the biopsy clip( or the small tumor most likely). Have to go back for another surgery like a lumpectomy and possibly exchange of that…

7 yrs after lumpectomy
I finished br treatment in 2017 and my oncologist moved away so I haven't been to a cancer Dr since. I have had regular mammos, that have all been normal. Now, 7 years later, my left breast is considerably bigger 42 DDD than the rt, and I have been having terrible lower back pain on left side. I'm thinking that I should…

Gross hematuria (Keytruda?)
hi everyone, I just finished my breast cancer treatment. 16 rounds of chemo (4AC and 12 tax/carbo), lumpectomy (7/29) and radiation 3 weeks. I am on Keytruda and zometa until May of 2025. 9/6 I saw I was peeing red blood and went to the ER. They said it was a UTI and gave me antibiotics. My culture only showed “rare”…

True risk factors
I just read a study that said prediabetes increases breast cancer risk. “ Heritable mutations account for some breast cancer diagnoses; a well-known example of which are the BRCA1/2 genes. However, most breast cancers arise from environmental or lifestyle-associated exposures.“ I tried to post a link to the study here but…

Nobody told me...
In the last week of September in 1999, I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After 8 months of chemo & 8 years of Tamoxifen, I thought I was done with that battle. Last fall, I began to have severe joint pain. 6 months of going from one specialist to another found no diagnosis Then in a routine scan for an unrelated…

Chaga Mushroom (Inonotus Obliquus)
Wondering if anyone here uses this. I've been researching it and am pretty excited to try it! It's supposed to be the #1 cancer fighting herb in the world and has many other powerful health benefits as well. Pubmed has several impressive studies on it. I found that David Wolfe has a great explaination about it on Youtube.…

This is an out there question but has anyone’s cancer ever been flagged on the airport tsa scanners. In the last year I have flown about 6 times and every airport to/from my trip highlights my abdomen. I have to get my stomach patted down. I finished treatment for triple negative in 2016 but every ache and pain still makes…

Stage 1a to Stage 4 in 6 years. 39 yo. Mets to liver & bone. Chek2+
Hi everyone, my first dx was in 2018 (age 32) after self discovery. I had a Bi-lat mastectomy and had been on tamoxifen. Oncotype 11 so no chemo recommended. ER+/PR+. Chek2 positive. Feeling great with no symptoms, I did a Galleri test this October 2024, which came back with positive breast signal. CT scan w contrast…

Architectural distortion
I had my first mammogram ever in September with no history of breast cancer in my family. They called me back in for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. The doctor then came in and told me that even though she was scheduling a biopsy I would be having surgery no matter what. She said that the biopsies aren’t always…
